3 | The article considers the reception of Siberia in the group of essays of I.A. Kuschevsky, entitled «Not far away places of Siberia». The author manages to create the atmosphere of Tomsk of 60-ies of the 19th century. The author who is a Siberian himself speaks from the point of view of the habitants of Central Russia, which gives him an opportunity to find parallel lines, to com¬pare Siberian nature, traditions, customs, life on the whole with that of Russia. 5 | Introduction. The relevance of the article is determined by the increased interest of philologists and the general public to the personality and creative heritage of I.S. Turgenev in the year of his 200th anniversary. Nonetheless despite the long tradition of studying the personality and creativity of the Russian writer at school the Turgenev pedagogical studies lag behind the scientific studies. Materials and research methods. The hypothetically formulated problem was confirmed during the analysis of scientific and methodological work and by the diagnosis of residual knowledge of students. Stereotypes of student’s perception of the writer’s personality and interpretation of his work are revealed. Results and discussion. In the article productive ways and forms of students’ acquaintance with the personality of the writer are considered including development of new genres of biographical essay. Particular attention is paid to the Turgenev concept of nature and love and their aesthetic and philosophical essence. New teaching methods for enhancing students’ reading activity, in particular, methods of formation intertextuality (based on the reference to the landscapes of the artists of the Barbizon School) are proposed. New ways to familiarize students with the writer’s manor texts in the context of Russian manor culture are recommended. The specific recommendations are given to include the novel «Noble Nest» into the 10th grade literature lessons. New approaches to the study of the novel «Fathers and Sons» are revealed and the method of its comparison with Avdotya Smirnova’s television series «Bazarov’s Error » based on the writer’s work is proposed. Conclusion. In conclusion of the article aiming to update the perception of Turgenev’s novel, students developed a model of a dialogue lesson involving the work of modern literature (a remake of Vera Tchaikovskaya «The New Under the Sun»). In general, the study revealed that further methodological improvement of the process of studying Turgenev’s personality and creative work at school is possible by relying on established traditions and using new forms and ways of organizing student’s reading activities, as well as improving the philological competence of a language teacher. 6 | The article reveals the multifaceted activity of I. S. Turgenev as a Russian European, which is considered from different positions: biographical, social, political, philosophical, cultural. The Aim of the paper is to interpret the Genesis of the concept of “Russian European” and its existence in Russian culture; to study the role of the writer in the Russian-European cultural transfer with the involvement of his biography, social, translation activities and artistic creativity. Material and methods. The research methodology was carried out through the use of an integrated approach to the analysis of socio-cultural phenomena and was provided by a system of methods: biographical, historical and literary, historical and functional, cultural,historical and comparative typological. Results and discussion. A systematic approach to the consideration of the stated problem allowed us to study it in synchrony and diachrony, using the principles of dialogicality, discursivity and contextuality. The article presents Turgenev’s long way from the Westerner to the Russian European. His first attempt to make inroads into European society was not quite successful and brought him disappointment. On the contrary, his translation work was successful in order to promote Russian literature in France. And only after the publication of The Hunting Sketches and the novel Rudin in French and German Turgenev becomes famous in the West. The writer’s participation in the dinners of “booed playwrights” was an acknowledgment of his “Russianness” and “Europeanism” at the same time: he organically joined the circle of the French literary elite, while maintaining his special position due to the Russian mentality. Gradually Turgenev becomes more and more close, “his” both for Flaubert and for the generation of “children” (E. Zolà, A. Daudet, G. de Maupassant), who saw him as a friend, literary mentor, even a teacher. The final part of the study presents an analysis of Turgenev’s literary works in connection with the consideration of the typology of characters, correlated with the concept of “Westerners” and “Russian European” (the story Asya, the novel Rudin, On the Eve, Smoke). Results and discussion. The material of the article can be used in the activities of scientists (philologists and culturologists), teachers and school teachers to expand the understanding of the Russian writer and his contribution to the interaction of interpenetration and mutual enrichment of the two cultures – Russia and Europe. Conclusion. Turgenev is a classic Russian European: he combines all his activities and works of two cultures, seeks to include Russia in the European family, and on the other hand, contributes to the familiarization of Europe with the achievements of national culture. 7 | Introduction. The review provides coverage and understanding of the International scientific conferences and cultural events held in 2018, dedicated to the I.S. Turgenev’s 200th anniversary. The large-scale celebration of the anniversary testifies to the increasing attention of literary critics and the general public to the personality and creative heritage of the great Russian writer, who until now has not been honored in the world literature with the place that he deserves at par with other Russian classical writers – Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and Chekhov. Purpose of the study. This review allows you to see the scale of scientific and cultural events in the Turgenev jubilee year, to feel the atmosphere and the “pulse” of these events, to introduce specialists to their organization, participants, the content of the most thorough and memorable speeches, to think about the complex personality of the writer, his constant evolution, his creative searches. Material and methods. The authors use an integrated approach to the analysis of the scientific and cultural events of the Turgenev anniversary year. It is provided by a system of methods: descriptive-analytical, cultural-historical, comparative-typological, biographical, historical-literary, historical-functional, sociological. Results and discussions. The topics and problems of scientific conferences are examined, a brief analysis of the most informative and memorable speeches is given, special attention is paid to the reports of leading Turgenev’s works and literal specialists. Scientific events in the leading scientific centers of Russia (IRLI RAS and IMLI RAS, Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Russian State Humanitarian University), as well as foreign forums in Thessaloniki, Brussels, Rouen, Paris/Bougival, are thoroughly analyzed. The analysis of scientific reports allows us to see the main directions in modern Turgenev works and creativity science. The analysis presents convincingly the historical and cultural context of the work of the Russian writer and his multifaceted personality. Conclusion. The material of the scientific review of the Turgenev anniversary conferences can be used in the scientific and educational activities of scientists (philologists, cultural scientists, historians), graduate students, school teachers. It will expand the understanding of Turgenev’s work, the scale of his personality, his contribution to Russian and world culture. 8 | Introduction. The analysis of Siberian newspapers of the early 1880s, which contains information about I. S. Turgenev: Irkutsk newspapers «Siberia» (1873–1887), «Eastern Review» (1882–1906) and Tomsk; Sibirskaya Gazeta (1881–1888), Sibirskiy Vestnik (1885–1905). The purpose of the study was to identify the reception of the personality and work of the great Russian writer by the Siberian educated society and an understanding of his role in the spiritual life of Siberia and Russia. Material and methods. In the course of its implementation, a system of methods was used: biographical, historicalliterary, historical-functional, cultural-historical and comparative-typological. Results and discussion. Turgenev turned out to be a significant figure for the cultural life of Siberia. His works were sold in bookstores in Tomsk, Omsk, Barnaul, Irkutsk, and were in many libraries in Siberia. With the appearance of the first Siberian newspapers, reviews and materials about the work and events of the life of the Russian writer were printed on their pages. Most often his name was found on the pages of the «Siberian newspaper». The love story of S. S. Sinegub was known among the populist revolutionaries. She found, in the opinion of the author of the article, its reflection in the development of the love affair of Nezhdanov, Marianna and Solomin (novel «Nov»). The secret editor of the newspaper was F. V. Volkhovsky, a political exile, tried in the socalled «trial of the 193s» in 1877 y. Turgenev was not personally acquainted with Volkhovsky, but actively communicated with G. A. Lopatin, his friend and associate in political activities, and together with him founded the Russian Public Library in Paris. Particular attention in the article is paid to the analysis of materials about Turgenev on the pages of Irkutsk and Tomsk periodicals: these are reprints and comments and articles of central newspapers about the works of Turgenev, their own reviews and reviews of the writer of Siberian writers. Some of them – N. I. Naumov, I. V. Omulevsky (and, possibly, N. M. Yadrintsev) – were personally acquainted with him and were present at Turgenev’s meetings with the editors of the magazine «Slovo» and «Russkoe Bogatstvo». It was in the March issue of the radical magazine «Slovo» in 1881 that Turgenev’s famous poem «Croquet in Windsor» (1876) was first published in Russia. Conclusion. The Siberian public closely followed the work of Turgenev, information about his illness was published in Siberian newspapers. After his death, it was reported about memorial services, which took place in a number of Siberian cities. The author of the article reviewed obituaries and posthumous articles about Turgenev, talentedly written by the editors of «Vostochny Obozreniye» and «Sibirskaya Gazeta». They noted the great importance of the work of the outstanding Russian writer and his social activities for the formation of civic consciousness of Siberians. Keywords: I. S. 9 | Introduction. The training of a new generation of highly educated personnel capable of acquiring and reproducing knowledge requires fundamental changes in the assessment of cadet learning outcomes. Knowledge control involves assessing the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired by cadets, while quality control aims at determining the level and enhancing the professional skills of teachers. These areas of control are used to assess the extent to which the learning objectives have been achieved; to identify problems that cadets encounter in the learning process; to stimulate cadets’ independent work; to determine the professionalism of the teacher; to obtain information necessary for the improvement of teaching, research and methodological work. As there are no specific unified models for implementing the assessment of cadet learning achievements, the methods and means of assessment are determined by the internal regulations of the military higher education institution. In this regard, there is a need to substantiate the theoretical basis and practical experience of training methodology for controlling the learning activities of military school teachers as a factor in improving the quality of evaluating the learning achievements of cadets of the Military Institute of the National Guard Troops. This problem can be solved by using a multifunctional control of the professional training of a competence-oriented specialist. The aim is to develop and implement in educational practice a multifunctional control in assessing the development of military-professional competences of cadets, aimed at improving the quality of their theoretical training and competences. Material and methods. Source analysis, testing of cadets and teachers, pedagogical experiment, mathematical method of evaluating the achievements of cadets’ learning success. Results and discussion. The essence of different approaches to evaluating the learning outcomes of cadets in military higher education institutions is revealed. The main types of evaluation of the results of their educational activities are revealed: diagnostic, current, periodic (thematic), and final evaluation, and their corresponding functions – diagnostic, controlling, managerial, educational, analytical-informational, motivational, and educational – are identified. The necessity of development and implementation in educational practice of multifunctional control in evaluating the development of military-professional competences of cadets, aimed at improving the quality of their theoretical and professional training, was substantiated. The study has shown that the set of control functions in the educational process is a system of multifunctional control of professional training of a competent specialist, which is characterised by the integrated use of various forms and methods of control on the basis of complementarity. The didactic multifunctionality of control is ensured by the realisation of its main functions, the level of provision of which in the educational process has an impact on the growth of cadet learning efficiency. The multifunctional quality control of cadet knowledge is a holistic management tool that includes diagnosis, investigation, control and evaluation. Conclusion. This study has shown that one of the promising ways to assess the quality of training is to develop and implement in educational practice a multifunctional control in assessing the development of military-professional competences of cadets, aimed at improving the quality of their theoretical training and practical skills. It is based on adequate psychological and pedagogical approaches, the use of pedagogical modelling and the selection of the most effective organisational and pedagogical conditions that will ensure the effectiveness of multifunctional control of future officers’ professional training.
