5551 | Toponymic nickname – is a new name based on the associations with reality phenomena. Wide use of secondary nominations is a characteristic feature of the toponymic system of the USA. Each state, apart from its official name, has a number of nicknames, which can be official and unofficial. This article is devoted to the linguocultural analysis of toponymic nicknames of the US States, motivational characteristics of which are relief and water resource peculiarities. This group of American nicknames is clearly restricted in the English language and presents an interesting material for the linguistic analysis. This article regards different classifications of the analyzed units as well as their motivational and quantitative analyses. Secondary nominations of the US States reflect the peculiarities of the flat, hilly and mountainous relief. The last one prevails over the flat and hilly relief. Water resources (among which the most productive motivation is rivers) occur more often than the objects of the area relief. One more particular feature of the units under the investigation is the fact that they are presented by the nominations with absolute or full motivating, since the facts, events and geographical names, put in the basis of the secondary nominations, are always evident. 5552 | The article considers forms of M. A. Bulgakov’s dramatical conventionality on the material of his two plays: “The Purple Island” (1926) and “Crazy Jourdain” (1932). Firstly, the writer of a famous meta-novel uses metatext structures in his plays, combining parody on the modern art, social satire with the author’s aesthetic self-determination, comprehension between real life and theatre. Metatextual semantics of the “reception” in “The Purple Island” combines satire of a modern state art with the reflection on creative work, and understanding his place as a writer in the new society. Reviewing the Moliиre’s creative works in his play “Crazy Jourdain” he employs the three-tier structure of “the theatre in the theatre in the theatre” and focuses on author's loss of meaning of the creative work. “The theatre in the theatre”, “the theatre’s rehearsal”, the parallel “literary” plots, cultural and literary reminiscences become the conventional forms in the M.A. Bulgakov’s dramas. 5553 | We consider cosmological perturbations in the theory of gravity with nonminimal kinetic coupling. The Lagrangian of the theory contains the term ηGijφ,iφ,j , and represents the particular example of a general Horndeski Lagrangian, which results in second-order field equations. We derive a complete set of equations for scalar, vector and tensor pertubations. The tensor modes are analyzed in detail. It is shown that their behavior inside the Hubble horizon differs cardinally from the analogous behavior of tensor modes in Friedmann cosmology. 5556 | For the first time the attention is paid to the little-known review (obozrenie) “Odyssey” (1928) by Nikolay Erdman and his co-author Vladimir Mass. This text is travesting performance of the adventures of Odysseus, the main hero of Homer’s epic poem of the same name. The review includes three monologues of the assistant director (pomoshnikrezhissera). These monologues are not directly related to the plot of modern Odysseus’s adventures. Based on the works by Y. M. Lotman the article examines these monologues as a particular case of text within a text / theater within a theater. 5557 | The article presents the results of I. A. Kuratov’s lyrics analysis through the prism of its subject structure. The analysis found that the lyric poet is multy subject system containing various subjective forms of the author’s consciousness expressions: the actual author, lyrical hero, the author-narrator, the hero «role» of the lyrics. Kuratov’s lyrical system is oriented towards the samples of realistic Russian and world lyricism, which has already mastered polysubject forms by the 19th century. Development by the poet of different forms of expression of author’s consciousness is connected with extension of the thematic contents of poetry. An analysis of poetic material made it possible to reveal the unconditional connection between the choice of the forms of expression of the author’s consciousness and the semantic aspect of Kuratov’s works. However polysubjectivity is characteristic of certain verses by Kuratov, which creates a poetic polyphony, and expand the functions of direct speech. Studying poetic works of Komi poet through the prism of their subjective system makes it possible to reveal not only the immanent features of Kuratov’s lyricism, but also to present the place and role of I. Kuratov in the development of the subject sphere and the poetic system of the lyrics of komi of the 1850s-1870s. Keywords: Komi poetry of the 19th century, I. A. 5565 | The Gogol’s story “Nevsky Prospekt”, repeatedly becoming a subject of reflection for two centuries, is of interest to researchers for its multifacetedness and inexhaustible possibilities for interpretation. The author’s aim is the systematization of the story’s verbal lexicon into lexico-semantic groups and the demonstration of typological and mental differences of the characters. These differences were the subject of scientist’s reflection, however, in our view, they are not only in the ideological and semantic levels of the work, but, first of all, in the linguistic level. The author does not analyze the entire verbal lexicon, but only those verbs that are directly related to the description of the main characters - Piskarev and Pirogov. We rely on the definition of Z. D. Popova and I. A. Sternin who believe that “lexico-semantic group is a large group of words of one part of speech united by a single word-an identifier or a stable phrase-combination, whose meaning is fully included in the meaning of the remaining words of the group and which can replace the remaining words in certain contexts” [7, р. 95]. We also rely on the verbal lexicon classification, proposed in the dictionary edited by T. V. Matveyeva, considering this classification the most complete. The most frequent are the lexico-semantic groups of the following verbs: Pirogov – displacement in space (15), speech message (10), thinking (4), utterance (4), perception (6), penetration (4); Piskarev – displacement in space (40), perception (16), utterance (5), thinking (4). In addition, there are unique lexical and semantic groups for each hero. The total number of verbal lexicon in the case of Piskarev is much larger than in the case of Pirogov. That’s why Piskarev is not just a naive dreamer, but an actor who is trying to transform the surrounding reality. As a true romantic, he produces a modified (idealized) reality in his works, then – dreams, and finally he perishes, failing in the transformation of the real life and consciousness of the beauty girl. 5566 | Introduction. The purpose of the article is to reflect on the specifics of organizing translation training in line with the collaborative activity pedagogy of G. N. Prozumentova. Three models of collaborative activity between the teacher and students (authoritative, leadership, partner) and three types of joint actions between the teacher and students have been analyzed: closed, semi-open and open. For each model there are special types of educational tasks (reproductive, constructive, creative). At the same time, all translation exercises are characterized in the logic of a certain model of collaborative activity between a teacher and students, taking into account the different positions of its participants. Material and methods. As a methodological base of the research we have chosen a learner-centered approach as well as the concept of collaborative activity pedagogy between the teacher and students. We have analyzed the traditional methods of teaching translation and educational practices for training translators in a classical university, including teaching experience of the author. Results and discussion. It has been established that the majority of translation exercises are mostly reproductive and tend to an authoritative model of collaborative activity; therefore, it is important to use a variety of exercises, mainly dialogue exercises, representing a leadership and partnership model of collaborative activity pedagogy. It has been proven that an open collaborative action (involving the creation of new meanings, the interchange and mutual enrichment, non-didactic interaction of participants) is optimal in translation teaching. Students form socio-cultural knowledge, communication skills, ability to participate in collaborative activities, translation competencies. Conclusion. For the first time it has been shown that translation training requires not only modern methodological support, but also a pedagogical basis. The idea of co-organizing different types of interaction between a teacher and students in translation training with an emphasis on organizing open collaborative action is seen by the author as the best option for organizing learner-centered educational practice at the university. 5567 | Introduction. The paper focuses on the main term formation processes in the Russian language based on the field of oil and oil products desulfurization. Such features of the studied filed as low exploration degree and absence of term pattern bring this study up-to-date. Taking into account that the removal of sulfur improves the quality of oil and its derivatives, desulfurisation of crude oil and oil products is a strategic pathway not only for Russia, but also for other countries that extract and refine oil. A more complete understanding of the term formation processes has a positive impact on the development of the Russian language scientific worldview, and also enhances the professional qualities of Russian translators. Aim and objectives. The aim of current paper is to regulate selected terms of the previously unexplored oil and oil products desulfurization field according to the principle of term formation. This research is useful not only for specialists in this field, but also for translators working in the chosen sphere. Material and methods. The material for research is The Basic Terms in Oil and Gas Processing: A Brief Reference Book by G. Tarakanov and Transformations of Sulfur Compounds and Aromatic Hydrocarbons of Oils Diesel Fractions in the Processes of Oxidative Desulfurization by E. Krivtsov. Resuls and discussion. Basic word formation processes of the national Russian language, terminologization, and transterminization are widely-used at the level of the original vocabulary in the studied terminology sphere. The term formation with the adaptation of foreign language inclusions also occurs at the same level. The formation of terms based on the method of calquing belongs to the junction of the borrowed and original vocabulary. The Russian language is able to transcribe foreign terms, and its alphabetic system determines its ability to transliteration. Conclusion. Term formation processes in the Russian terminology of the “Desulphurization of oils and oil products” sphere on the basis of original vocabulary is more motivated than on the basis of borrowed. However, in the studied term system, there is a high tendency to adapt foreign-language inclusions, mainly Greek and Latin, which is caused by the medieval tradition to assign chemical elements names in Latin. 5589 | The year of 2019 is the anniversary of two writers of different eras – A. S. Pushkin (1799–1837) and V. V. Nabokov (1899–1977). This study did not initially include the goal of identifying the “bringing together “of two writers, but an analysis of the wind motive led to results that broadened the ideas about the creative dialogue between Nabokov and Pushkin already established in literature. The aim of the work is to analyse the wind / storm motive in V. Nabokov’s novel “Otchayaniye” (Despair) in relation to cultural tradition. Material and methods. Motive and intertextual analysis based on the work of B. Gasparov, I. Silantyev. For understanding of the functionality and archetypical semantics of the wind / storm motive, the studies of K. Nagina and E. Nikanorova are significant; among the research work on Nabokov, the baseline for this study is, firstly, the article by A. Dolinina, who described the principles of using V. Nabokov to use Pushkin’s intertext in the novel “Otchayaniye” (Despair). Results and discussion. When analyzing “Otchayaniye” (Despair), it was considered that the narrative motive is often implemented in conjunction with an anonymous motive, therefore the focus of research attention was not only the wind motive / storm motive, but also windcalm. It was revealed that the wind motive in the novel is polysemantic and “works” to reveal the main themes and problems in the novel, “involved” in the design of the author’s concept of the work. It is associated primarily with moral and ethical issues: the definition of boundaries and the essence of free will, crime and punishment. It was found that the motive functionally considered in the novel correlates with the archetypal image of the storm, which traditionally embodies above the personal will and trial, the condition of passage of which is the strength of the moral basis of the individual. For the immoral character, who is the central hero of the novel, Herman (a murderer who is not experiencing remorse and torment of conscience), the wind turned into a storm, carries the semantics of punishment (“frightening” wind, “murderous drafts”). The study revealed the use of Nabokov’s method of increasing gradation in the design of the wind motive, which accompanies Hermann’s doubts and moral throwing, turning into a storm at the moment of final despair. Stillness arises at the climax points of the plot (the murder of an imaginary double and Herman reading his own, which must justify, but expose his mediocrity, “story”). If Herman interprets windcalm as the indifference of being to human life, as the absence of God, then at the author’s level “silence of being” emphasizes Nabokov’s idea of free will: nature does not give signs and does not interfere with a person’s moral choice. The analysis of the wind motive made it possible to reveal, the Pushkin’s fairy tale “Skazka o Rybake i Rybke” / About the Fisherman and the Fish as a significant intertext of the novel; the final “Otchayaniye” (Despair) correlates with the outcome of the tale: the character who wished to become a “despot” not only of his own being, but also of the lives of others (to take the place of God), remained “by the broken washtub”. Conclusion. This study made it possible to expand the understanding of the intertextual connections of the novel by V. Nabokov, to clarify the author’s concept of crime and punishment. 5593 | The poet-governors’ creation in the classical medieval Azerbaijani literature is considerably allocated and made out in a special direction as the poetokratic literature. The actually of research is in the formation of the problem of the poetic governor’s psychological portrait in the native language’s classical poetry (Ghazi Burkhaneddin, Jahanshakh Hagigi, Shakh Ismayil Khatayi, Molla Panah Vagif), shown in differential lines in the lyrical hero’s characteristic, in the analysis of ideologically-aesthetic value of this phenomenon which practically does not have analogues in the world literature. Ghazi Burkhaneddin (1344–1398) as one of the first founders of the given literature has displayed and has sung in its divan (the collection of lyrical verses) of the poet-governor’s heroic image. Well-known both in Azerbaijan and in all Near East as the religion scientist, the commander, the governor and the poet, it is one of the first lyric poets in the Azerbaijanian poetry. The questions demanding a parity of creative humanism and activity on government are contrasting to the portrait of the hero of this poetry. The love to Turkic culture which found its reflection in brillian Nizami Ganjevi’s works, has made an essential impact on formation of the image of Turkic hero in Kazi Burhaneddin’s lyrics. Besides, rulling the state, which he himself created, he has practically realized the great Nizami’s dreams about the ideal governor. The history of the world literature has proved that in cases when the powerfull governor as well turned out to be a talented poet, his lyrical hero fought for the rights and freedom of his people with more courage. 5595 | This paper searches for the points of contact between cognitive linguistics and IT by drawing parallels between key concepts of cognitive linguistics and mathematical logics. The notions of metalanguage, object language and graph are considered not only as strictly logical concepts but as a tool that can be used to solve a range of interdisciplinary problems such as modeling the knowledge structure of a certain subject field. Since every natural language is both an object and a subject of cognition, such type of research seems to be essential in terms of modern level of computer technology and artificial intelligence. The paper also substantiates the reason to create interdisciplinary teams of software developers because such kind of intercommunication and cooperation between different areas of study seems to be vital to deal with the problems of modern educational and testing issues. 5596 | This article is dedicated to the unexplored phenomenon: the display of symmetry sign in a language system and its realization in speech. We have made an attempt to distinguish the main signs of the symmetry on the level of the phonemes and analysis of the poetical texts in the chosen languages (Russian and German). In the consideration of the display of symmetry sign are included metro-rhythmic and semantic signs. The procedure of a linguistic analysis and psycholinguistic experiment is described in the article. In the experimental way we try to reveal the character of perception of symmetry sign by Russian and German speakers on the level of the poetical text. 5597 | The development of the history of the hotel business is closely connected with travelling. French hospitality and hotel service have are world famous. France is considered to be a luxuary holiday destination for residents of other countries. This article deals with the French hotel discourse as one type of institutional discourse, which is a multicomponent complex organized hybrid discursive formation, born as a result of intertwining of the following discourses: legislative discourse (in the sphere of hotel business), French insurance discourse (in the sphere of hotel business), French administrative and managerial hotel (hotel proper) discourse, French scientific hotel discourse, French Academic (educational) hotel discourse, the French hotel media discourse, French hotel Internet discourse. The leading role here belongs to the hotel discourse proper in the sphere of professional communication. Whereas, within each subtype of the hotel discourse, it is possible to discover polyphonic inclusions of historical, art historical, culinary, social, tourist, design, architectural and other discourses. The French hotel discourse as a kind of institutional communication is a complex socio-cultural phenomenon that includes many life spheres of the modern society. In professional communication it is a speech implemented in institutional communication situations, i. e. it is the activity product of a group of people in the hotel service industry. The complex discursive nature of hotel discourse has generated a variety of genre forms. Keywords: hotel, discourse, hotel discourse, speech genre, a unit of analysis | 1084 | |||||
5598 | Introduction. The paper is devoted to the oligarchy’s description as an axiologically marked phenomenon from the language point of view. The necessity to take into account the perception of oligarchy in other cultures, the analysis of the national peculiarities of the oligarchy representation in the language, the need for the comparative research make the study of the mentioned phenomenon up-to-date. Material and methods. Mass-media texts retrieved from the sub-corpus of the British national corpus (NOW corpus) serve as the material for the analysis. NOW corpus contains newspaper and magazine articles dated 2010-2018. Results and discussion. Collocation analysis of the term oligarchy in the British national corpus is carried out according to the following criteria: types, characteristic features, co-occurrence with other concepts, metaphoric conceptualization of the phenomenon under study. As the result of the analysis it is shown that oligarchy’s representation in the British mass-media discourse is determined by social and discursive peculiarities of a definite linguo-culture. Alongside with the universal features (the connection of oligarchy with a definite sphere of human activity) the English language possesses special terms for denoting this destructive phenomenon in this or that country. In examining the relation between oligarchy and other negative phenomena the latter is viewed not as different from the rest of the destructive things but as synonymous to them (corruption and oligarchy, despotism and oligarchy, imperialism and oligarchy). The metaphoric representation of oligarchy is not constituted by a wide range of features. The theoretical relevance of the research consists in the development of the mass-media discourse and axiological linguistics’ theory through the analysis of the ordinary definition of the term on the basis of newspapers and magazines. The applicability of the study consists in the possibility of using the results of the analysis while studying other axiologically marked phenomena in different cultures and through the prism of different time segments. Conclusion. The paper outlines possible prospects for research, including consideration of the interpretation of the phenomenon of oligarchy on the material of English discourse in the diachronic aspect, which will complement the results and identify those aspects of the presentation of the analyzed phenomenon that are not present in the representation of the oligarchy phenomenon in modern English. 5599 | Introduction. The article substantiates the relevance of modern educational space, which combines scientific and practice-oriented components, knowledge and competence paradigms of education. The aim of this work is to generalize and systematize the set of requirements for quality humanitarian education. Material and methods. The methodological basis of the study was a set of methods of system, activity and personality-oriented approach, analysis of scientific and methodological literature, legal documents regulating modern General education practice. Results and discussion. Consideration of the phenomenon of humanitarian education and humanitarization of education, as well as the format of the mandatory exam in the Russian language (the main state exam and the unified state exam, as well as the final interview in the Russian language) allowed to fix the focus of the estimated results in two aspects: the actual knowledge and competence, allowing to assess the formation of the student’s personality, to assess his speech readiness in combination with his General culture. It is noted that modern linguistics considers language as a complex dynamic system, which is undoubtedly reflected in the context of the formation of the school educational space. The framework presents the organization of the educational process in the Humanities, namely its orientation as a single set of requirements, in particular between the actual subject education and personal abilities, inclinations of students, to be focused on the prolonged demand for students in their future professional space and in private life, which involves in the process of formation of the humanitarian educational space of the school the inclusion of various methodological options of educational activities and the inclusion of didactic units, focused on the formation of dialogue and interaction, as well as the formation of practical skills in the subject area. Conclusion. According to the results of the study, it is concluded that this variant of the organization of humanitarian educational space is possible through a combination of different approaches, among which the leading place can be occupied by the technology of personality-oriented education. 5600 | Introduction. The modernist esthetics of Lena Eltang’s prose, as well as the biographical factor (she is a fourthwave emigrant who now lives in Lithuania) explains the value for the author and characters of the novel’s word, the speech as a method of conservation and expression the inner world of a person in a non-native environment. The purpose of the work is to identify the semantics and functionality of the main point in the novel “Stone Maples”/”Kamennyye kloyny” (2008) by L. Eltang of the motive complex “peace – silence – word/speech”. Material and methods. The method of research is a motivational analysis based on the works of B. Gasparov, I Paperno, V. Silantyev, O. Rusanova. In understanding of the general cultural semantics of the motives of silence, peace and speech, we rely on the works of O. M. Freidenberg, M. Epstein, A. Genis. Results and discussion. The analysis performed to identify the central place of the silence motive in the selected motive complex. The motive of silence is multifunctional: it participates in the movement of the plot, draws up the image of the main character and characterizes the relationship between the characters, appears as the one of the narrative techniques (ignoring the addressee, silence in response), also accompanies the development of the theme of creativity. Silence is interpreted as a reorientation of the person from external to internal, from waste of words in oral speech to their accumulation for creating a text. Silence is existential: it is a condition for capturing the “call of being” and invitingly itself, helps another to pay attention to the subject of silence. The semantic difference between the motives of silence and peace is significant. The first is internally potentially resolved by speech, word-life, the second relates to death, loss of identification, ability to express oneself. Сonclusion. It is based on the poetics of neomythologies and uses the general cultural semantics of the motive complex “words – peace – silence: in an individual experience of the main character which repeats the stories of the heroes of ancient myths and fairy tales, living an archaic plot of silence – a word which is synonymous of the plot of death – resurrection (O. M. Freidenberg). Keywords: modern modernism, literature of Russian emigration, motif, motif complex, word, silence, silence, Lena Eltang | 1084 |
