The pre-revolutjonary history of the Tomsk State University from the very beginning of its foundation is considered in the given paper. The first Siberian University was the centre of social life and had a favourable effect on culture of the whole region, it served as a means of migrating well-educated people and training of highly qualified medical staff and lawyers.
