The article deals with the analysis of the linguistic means of expressing the religious constituent of the national identity on the basis of the phraseological unit High Church. The context of this unit reveals its new meanings, which are not given in dictionaries.

The article deals with the analysis of the phraseological unit High Church. On the basis of the contextual usage of the unit the author distinguishes its meanings into four groups depending on the common theme and, thus comes to conclusion that the phraseological unit High Church has a complex structure, which potential combines a lot of constituents.
