The paper is dedicated to problem of preparation of Doctors of Science in higher a traditional form of heightening the qualification of educationists and research workers as the institute of Senior Research Workers. The objective and subjective reasons for the low efficiency of the above - mentioned establishments of Siberian nigher schools during the period of late 1950s up to early 1990s have been analyzed.

Modern state of scientific studies of the theme “Higher School in Siberia in the Late of 1950s – early 1990s” is reflected in the article. In this respect the historiography of the problem is analyzed, which is represented by generalizing and special papers: group work, monographies, some articles, speeches and conference reports. The analysis of publications gives us a chance to come to the conclusion that scientific studies, specially devoted to the development of higher school in Siberia in the abovementioned territorial and chronological framework are practically not investigated.
