| 1953 | The article deals with the question of teaching engineering students to professional foreign vocabulary in relation to the joining “Initiative CDIO” which is an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of engineers. The framework provides students with an education stressing engineering fundamentals set in context of Conceiving – Designing – Implementing – Operating real world systems and products. Active learning is an essential part of the syllabus, which is supposed to engage students directly in thinking and problem solving activities. It defines the problem of using professional vocabulary in speech in solving problems and cases. The article gives the definition of a lexical skill; its significant features both situational correlation and communicativeness are necessary in formation and development. It discloses the specifics of professional lexical skill formation, presents the examples of phrases important for engineering students to master speaking. As a result, it suggests implementing exercises based on a widening rhythmic group, which is a short phrase – a thought consisting of some logically connected phrases where a key phrase is repeated in every sentence. A widening rhythmic group possesses all the qualities as any other statement. It means it has the aim to explain, to persuade, to give arguments. Exercises based on a widening rhythmic group can be used in different activities: speaking, reading, listening, and writing. The article proves the effectiveness of these exercises; it demonstrates the examples of widening rhythmic groups. | 1954 | The article presents the experience of comparative analysis of the image of the lyrical hero in Russian and French poetry of symbolism in the aspect of lexical means of explicating the problem of life searches and searching for the meaning of human existence. It is demonstrated that the essence of the philosophical aesthetics of symbolism lies in the knowledge of the world on the basis of the idealistic concept of duality, according to which the world of ideas is considered true, and the real world is recognized as imperfect. The subject of consideration is the specificity of the organization of lexical level units involved in creating images of the lyric hero in the poetical texts of S. Baudelaire and A. Blok. Through the use of lexical-semantic, textological analysis and with reference to the dictionary data it is demonstrated that the rebellious heroes of famous poets perceive life through the tragedy aesthetics of symbolism. The problem of vital searches of lyric heroes Baudelaire and Blok is presented in dynamics and is realized in the context of understanding the philosophical aesthetics of symbolism in general, and also taking into account the characteristics of the author’s worldview. In the comprehension of the problem of life searches of lyric heroes Sh. Baudelaire and A. Blok it is possible to outline both similar and distinctive tendencies. Differences are due to national and cultural characteristics, as well as the specific nature of the author’s picture of the world, which as a whole determined the selection of lexical units in the structure of the analyzed poetic texts. | 1955 | Introduction. The paper deals with the speech portrayal of a representative of the eastern branch of Russian emigration in Australia. Australia was one of the countries re-emigrated by Russian emigrants from China, particularly from Harbin, which was the center of Russian eastern emigration in the 1960s. The research was carried out within the framework of linguopersonology, a modern trend in linguistics, which studies the individual speech patterns of a linguistic personality. The purpose of this paper is to analyze both linguistic and sociolinguistic speech characteristics of a representative of the eastern branch of Russian emigration in Australia. Scientific relevance of the research results from the interest of modern anthropocentric linguistics in the linguistic personality phenomenon and in the language of the Russian emigration, which in the twentieth century existed in special linguistic conditions. Materials and research methods. The major method used in the paper is the method of speech portrayal. The research was based on the audio records of the speech of a representative of Russian emigration in Australia. These records are a valuable historical and linguistic source of information about the Russian eastern emigration in the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Results and discussion. The speech of a representative of Russian eastern emigration is studied as a set of proper linguistic and sociolinguistic characteristics. His speech patterns are analyzed at different levels of the language system: phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical. The speech analysis of the Russian re-emigrant from China to Australia demonstrates a good preservation of the Russian mother tongue at different levels of the language system although throughout his life the linguistic personality existed in a foreign language environment. His speech is not influenced by the Chinese language, which he did not know, though he spent twenty years in China. There is not much interference from the English language except for some borrowings, though he has been living in the English speaking environment for fifty years and is fluent in English. Conclusion. The high level at which the Russian native language is preserved in the speech of Russian re-emigrants from Harbin to Australia is highly dependent on the subjective factors. It is an amazing linguistic phenomenon, demonstrating the preservation of the native Russian language as a means of national and cultural identification and the main attribute of national identity. | 1956 | The paper draws comparisons between the stages in the history of the English language developing in the multilingual environment and its status of a macromediator in the modern world. The research is based on two fundamental methods: the comparative historical method that assists in observing the development of English in the diachronic perspective and its co-existence with other languages in anisotropic linguistic situation of that time and the dialectical one directed at identifying such contradicting directions of the language system evolution as integration and disintegration, standardization and individualization, centrism and acentrism. The evolution of classifying English language origin (Teutonic group in the 17th and 18th centuries, Anglofrisian group in the 19th century and West Germanic group in the 20th century) is rooted in the changes of intralinguistic nature caused by a range of extralinguistic factors. On the one hand, island distribution of the language areal, hard accessibility of the territory, and therefore their isolation, and on the other hand, attractiveness of this land due to favorable conditions (mild climate, diverse landscape, rich flora and fauna), Christianization, active trade relationships leading to permanent polyglossia of linguistic environment (Celtic, Germanic, Scandinavian dialects, classical and vulgar Latin, various languages of Roman legionaries, French) were the reasons why the English language obtained and has maintained till the present time such peculiar distinctive properties as acentrism, high level of lexical mobility, substantial derivational potential, economy of linguistic means and rather free manipulations with language standards. The latter is also connected with long-term absence of the unified national, political and language center in Britain and mostly marginal usage of the language predominantly in the oral form. The authors also insist on the need to further look into the grammatical structure of the English language throughout its evolution in order to better understand the consequences of the polyglossian environment not only on its vocabulary but also the status constituent. | 1965 | The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept memory in a comparative aspect of silver age poets’ writing such as N. S. Gumilyev and A. A. Akhmatova. The concept is analyzed on the basis of intertextual associativesemantic fields modeling that allow to identify different semantic aspects of the concept and individual author’s peculiarities of association. The result of research showed that common lexemes, that correspond to the usual meaning of the lexem memory, for poetic creativiy by A. A. Akhmatova and N. S. Gumilyev are the following areas of association: memory as a memory of anything (about love, about the events that happened earlier, about objects of the surrounding world, about time of action, etc.); memory as the total of the experience gained by the person or people; memory features. In the poetry of A. A. Akhmatova memory about the events of the past is painted emotionally due to sensual perception of the poetess. In her poems the relation of the concept memory with heart and soul becomes actual. In the poems by N. S. Gumilyev memory is connected not only with past time, but with future time too, with deep or archetypal memory, and it is of great importance for the poet, because it is the focus of experiences, thoughts, feelings, stimulating creative activity and correlates with knowledge. | 1966 | Introduction. Well-reasoned discourse is still one of the most widespread in up-to-date media sphere. It is conditional on peculiarities of modern social and historical age context and necessity to prove different viewpoints on current events. That is why study of types and means of argumentation is one of the topical task in different spheres of knowledge. The aim of the article is the detection of idiostyle peculiarities of media discourse of a public language personality abreast of argumentation’s types in the sphere of different informational reasons that are used by this person. Methods of research are based on discursive, semantic and stylistic analysis usage supported by regulative theory as one of the directions of the communicative stylistics of the text. Results and discussion. Dependence of types of argumentation that were used by public media persons on objective factors (informational reason, theme, speech genre) and subjective (goal-setting, communicative and cognitive, cultural and speech author’s peculiarities) is determined. Common and individual regulative means, structures and ways, which are typical for argued discourse and for analyzed individual discursive practices, are revealed in the article. The typical regulative structures and means of regulation are the following: usage of opponent’s quotations with further denial; reference to opponent and appeal to him that is attended by direct or indirect characteristic; reference to facts and quantitative data, usage of comparison of similar signs for proof, intensification of expression and polemic excitement at level of language means. Individual peculiarities of argumentation are the following: difference of author’s intentions, scale of informational reasons for counter-argumentation; choice of argumentation type subject to personality’s idiostle including his cultural and speech, cognitive and communicative styles, availability of author’s regulative means of logical and/or rhetorical argumentation in media discourse. Conclusion. The introduced approach to the study of argumentative discourse from the point of view of the idiostyle manifestation of a public language personality, revealed the difference between argumentation types according to the aim, means and effect of influence, which is caused not only by objective factors, but author’s individual peculiarities and information field of media text authors. | 1967 | Introduction. The article considers the image of St. Petersburg in the lyrics of Ivan Elagin, one of the prominent representatives of the second wave of emigration. The objectives of the study are: to trace the development of the image in its evolution, to fix the “common places” of St. Petersburg poetics, at the same time to note the author’s personal contribution to the development of the theme in conditions of emigration. Material and methods. The research methodology involves the interpretation of poetic texts based on theoretical and literary concepts (acmeism, literary tradition, poetry of the diaspora and the metropolis, etc.). Results and discussion. The image of St. Petersburg in the literature of the Russian abroad has repeatedly become the subject of scientific research, but the lyrics of Ivan Elagin have not yet attracted the close attention of literary scholars in interpreting the theme of St. Petersburg from acmeistic positions. We considered a number of his poems as a vivid example of following the precepts of acmeism in conditions of emigration, although the avant-garde element is no less important in the lyrics of Elagin. But in the image of the city on the Neva, the poet deliberately focuses on the poetics of acmeism, as evidenced by numerous allusions and thematic exchanges with senior acmeists – N. Gumilev, A. Akhmatova, O. Mandelstam. Conclusion. The lyrical embodiment of the image of St. Petersburg by Ivan Elagin is dictated by his acmeistic orientation and the desire to write his name in a line of his own poetic acmeist teachers. St. Petersburg of Ivan Elagin actualizes the general settings for the “St. Petersburg text”, but, in addition, demonstrates the emigrant specificity in interpreting the image of Northern Palmyra. The dominant feature of the image is its mortality, striving for “beyond”, the reflection in it of existential longing and nostalgia – the eternal “companions” of the exiled poet. | 1978 | Introduction. The article analyzes the features of the structure and semantic content of the virtual portals of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian public organization “Union of Pensioners of Russia”, the portal of the regional social center as a kind of institutional virtual resource that provides typical communication between the state and people of different ages – primarily the elderly. The purpose of the article is to describe the discursive, communicative, structural features of the official portals of state and public organizations, addressed to the elderly population of the country and region, to identify ways of organizing communication, the nature of communication with the addressee. Material and methods. The general research methodology is based on studies of linguists, psychologists, psycholinguists in the field of speech, psychological, cognitive characteristics of elderly people, as well as cognitivediscursive approaches to communication between official structures and public organizations with different layers of the population in a virtual environment. We used structural (content) analysis of the site, communicative analysis of the individual components of the sites, pragma-style analysis of fragments of texts contained in the content of the site, genre analysis of statements and fragments of texts. Results and discussion. Portals have a different volume of hypertext, multimodal, polycode structural components against the background of typical forms and contents typical for virtual objects. The virtual space of the RF PF portal has the features of a marketing platform that contains sections oriented to feedback from the addressee and their implementation – a citizen’s personal account, counseling center, and pension calculator; The content of the portal of the joint venture of the Russian Federation combines marketing, informative, effective and interactive features. The degree of combination of institutional, official, business, advertising, ritual, everyday discourses is also different, depending on the nature of the subject, function and copyright holder of the virtual object. The largest volume of official and official-business discursive component, the smallest amount of visual means is distinguished by the RF PF portal, the portal of the Union of Pensioners of the Russian Federation equally combines officialbusiness, legal, journalistic and everyday types of discourse, designed also using static and dynamic infographic components; the portal of the regional social center contains components of legal, official-business, educational journalistic types of discourse (the latter is represented by the numbers of the regional periodical). Conclusion. The structure, content of website, type of communication of the portals indicate the presence of incompatible types of recipient. The addressee of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation’s portal is a gender, professional, socially undefined person of retirement, pre-retirement age, interested in conceptually limited information; it’s mobile in a cognitive sense, easily transitioning from an ordinary conceptualization of reality to specialized, able to quickly adapt a large amount of legal information, orientated in a virtual environment, changing style and communicative registers. | 1998 | Introduction. In the modern novel “The Senility of Vladimir P” a typical image of a “small man” is created and the myth of Russia as a multi-layered system of stereotypes recognizable by the Western recipient is constructed. The purpose of the study is to characterize the stereotypical image of the Russian “small man” in the modern British novel and to determine its functions in the meta-myth of Russia. Material and methods. The methodology of comparative studies, in particular, imagology is used as its the interdisciplinary nature allows one to study the image of the “Other” in the social, cultural and literary consciousness of another country at intertextual, contextual and textual levels upon the concept of stereotypes (according to J. Leerssen). “The Senility of Vladimir P” by M. Honig is a material for research. Results and discussion. Under a scandalous headline, the author offers us a story about life in Russia through the prism of the theme of “small man”. The main character, Nikolay Sheremetyev, is not inclined to reflection until the situation of loss appears and his beloved nephew is arrested. From this moment on, the narrative is gaining momentum, the main character is changing: reality acquires more and more grotesque features, and reader witnesses painful transformation of Sheremetyev, the “small man”, the last honest person in Russia, who makes a deal with his conscience and begins to act within the framework of English-Saxon tradition. The image of the “Other” is presented by Honig precisely from the perspective of the Anglo-Saxon tradition in which all the other characters are actually written out: Russians only by entourage and consistent with the Western stereotype, but infected with Western individualism. The characters of the novel are classified by type depending on the model of behavior and prototype. Conclusion. M. Honig builds a grotesque, absurd image of Russia in the middle of the XXI century. Ethnotype characters act in conditional situations without author pretending to psychologize the image and reveal characters, because they must create the most complete, comprehensive picture of Russian reality, reflect Russian national features as they fit into the British myth of Russia that is familiar to the British. Honig constructs the ethnotype of Russian citizens of the mid-XXIst century from 1) the image of a small man (Nikolai Sheremetyev), traditional for Russian literature; 2) the media image of Russian elite formed mainly by Western media and Russian liberal media; 3) an exaggerated and schematic image of a typical Russian, featured in Western cinema of the late twentieth century. Before us there is a conflict not only of different attitudes, but the opposition of the Russian and English (more broadly Anglo- Saxon) worlds at the cultural and civilizational level. Honig’s novel is an example of secondary actualization, when a fiction text constructed under the influence of the media begins to be perceived as a non-fiction model, becoming a kind of simulacrum of reality.
