Tomskaya N.N. THE STYLISTIC POTENTIAL OF PHONETIC AND GRAPHIC LINGUISTIC MEANS IN DRAMATIC TEXTS (BASED ON THE PLAYS OF THE THEATER OF THE ABSURD) // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 7 (196). P. 48-53

Despite the disposition of the theater of the absurd for linguistic minimalism, the plays of the British theater of the absurd possess a great phonographic potential due to the generic features of the dramatic text. The article explains the paradoxical ability of the dramatic text to transfer performer’s phonostylistic means through the author’s remarks, special syntactic constructions and graphic tools. The identified phonostylistic and graphic means in the absurdist plays by Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard do not only help to convey the authors’ ideas, but also conform to the philosophy of the absurd. The most represented means is the instrumentation based on different sound repetitions (alliteration, consonance, rhyme) with the use of sound symbolism. The phonographic analysis of the texts also revealed some cases of onomatopoeia and paronomasia. Rhythm has a special stylistic meaning in the drama. It is inherent in both theatrical actions and speech, which is reflected in the dramatic text. The article considers the ways of creating a specific slow, monotonous rhythm peculiar to the theater of the absurd with its idea of cyclical existence. The described examples confirm the stylistic markedness of the plays of the theater of the absurd which can be an object of further research in linguistics and stylistics.

Karimova R.K., Khabibullina O.A. ONOMATOPOEIC VERBS IN GERMAN LANGUAGE AND THEIR FUNCTIONAL FEATURES // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 7 (204). P. 105-114

Introduction. The article deals with the onomatopoeic verbs of the German language and the peculiarities of their functioning in the texts of various genres: in colloquial speech, in literary and journalistic texts, in newspaper and magazine periodicals, and in German-language chats. The purpose of the study was to determine the frequency and originality of the use of onomatopoetic verbs. Material and methods. The theoretical part of the paper presents the classification of verbs selected for the study. The basis of the classification was the systemic dictionary by L.M. Vasilyev compiled on the material of the Russian language. The authors applied this principle of systematization to the material of the German language and supplemented the existing classification taking into account the examples selected for the analysis. The material for the study includes 161 sentences from fiction, journalist and German-language chats using onomatopoeic verbs. Results and discussion. To confirm the sound nature of this group of words, the article presents the etymology and meaning of the analyzed verbs in monolingual dictionaries. This group of words in German is quite numerous due to the presence of sound in the commission of almost any action. Many onomatopoeic verbs are characterized by polysemy associated with many associations of the same word in the minds of native speakers. The words of this group can have emotional, evaluative (both positive and negative) expressive and stylistic components of meaning. Conclusion. The article shows how actively and diversely the onomatopoeic verbs are used by the authors due to their expressiveness and emotionality, the ability to have a certain impact on the listener or reader. The results of solving the problem determine the theoretical significance. The study contributes to the development of the theory of functioning of onomatopoeic verbs. The practical value of the study is the ability to use the results of the study in the development of lecture courses and seminars on Lexicology, Stylistics and Text analysis in the course of modern German. Thus, the results of the study confirmed the authors’ assumption about the possible diversity of the functioning of onomatopoetic verbs in the texts of various genres.

Velilaeva L.R. THE MOTHERLAND IMAGE OF THE XIXTH SCOTTISH EMIGRATIONAL POETRY: PERSONAGE CONTEXT // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 7 (184). P. 160-163

The paper is devoted to the personage classification analysis in literary criticism, its adaptation to the personage system of Scottish emigrational poetry and investigation of image characteristics of «old» and «new» Motherland. Prof. M.A. Novikova’s classification of artistic space is taken into account. It includes the opposition of own place and other place, space of center and periphery, space of border and contact. There are different classifications based on diverse approaches: 1) unipatrides, expatriants, apatrides; 2) religious persons (St. Andrew), historical persons (Robert I the Bruce, 1274-1329), Sir William Wallace, c. 1270-1305), Robert Burns, 1759-1796)), dwellers of Scotland’s regions (Highlanders) / the USA regions, family and home personages (husband, wife, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, friends), natural actuals of Scotland/the USA (Grampian Hills, Wood of Clova, Noran Water). The contrastive analysis of the personage system of Scotland’s poets (who didn’t emigrate) with the personage system of the USA’s Scottish emigrational poets is made. In the poetry of Scotland’s poets such additional personages are found: Fergus I (ab. 434 – 501), Kenneth MacAlpin (810-858), Duncan I (1001-1040), Malcolm IV (1141-1165), John Knox (1513-1572), Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-1587), James Melville (1556-1614). Contrastive analysis of patriotic images and motives proves that emigrational literature can be treated as diasporic literature in case emigrational literature appeals to the historical and cultural traditions of the Motherland country (Scotland).

Trunova O.V. LINGUISTICS. ACADEMIC DISCOURSE: TERMINOLOGICAL DISSONANCES // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2016. Issue 6 (171). P. 61-65

A distinctive feature of contemporary linguistic research is its engagement with language actualization processes. This point finds its foundation in F. de Saussure’s conception distinguishing language, speech and speech activity which has given rise to various new trends with the purpose of exposing and examining the sense generating mechanisms of language in work. Analytical perspectives comprise a diversity of problems including the psychology of perception, interpretation and assessment of various phenomena, conventions of societal structures and communication modi. This originates a new interdisciplinary problem-solving plane with a new subject termed “discourse”. The phenomenon complexity and, consequently, the multiplicity of qualification and classification criteria bring forth a discord in the term (as well as the phenomenon) interpretation. There springs up a necessity to define its (the term and the phenomenon) status, correlations with other objects of linguistic analysis, such as text, genre, register. All these points, as well as the problem of term coinage and usage are in the focus of the article.

Yan K. THE WAYS OF EXPRESSING SURPRISE IN THE ARTISTIC TEXTS OF IVAN BUNIN RELATED TO THE CHINESE TRANSLATION: ETHNOPSYCHOLINGUISTIC ASPECT // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 2 (191). P. 121-126

This article is devoted to consideration of ways of conveying surprise in the artistic texts of I. A. Bunin compared to the translations into the Chinese language. From the point of view of cultural forms associated with the expression of emotions, traditions of transforming culture can be in different positions in relation to the source. In the present work, three groups of investigated units were singled out: 1) a way to express emotions in case of coincidence of the original and of the translating cultures; 2) a method of expressing emotions in the case of partial matches between the original and translating cultures; 3) a way to express emotions in case of discrepancy between the original and translating cultures. In Bunin’s fiction the emotion of wonder is expressed in three ways: nominative; descriptive; actually emotive. Translation of a literary text is inevitably exposed to the influence of the interpreter’s national picture of the world because of its conditionality to the language and culture of the people. In addition, the translation of a literary text helps to better understand the national, cultural-linguistic sense of the art work, and in several respects reveals the native Chinese speakers’ language picture of the world.

Sokolova E.Y., Kobenko Y.V. NEOLOGISATION EXTENT OF LEXICAL-SEMANTIC FIELD “SMART ENERGY SYSTEMS” IN MODERN ENGLISH // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2020. Issue 4 (210). P. 9-15

Introduction. Quantitative and qualitative changes in the modern English vocabulary and regular production of extensive neogenic lexical segments in its content demonstrate the viability of this language and are vivid evidences of its dynamic evolution in the modern society confirming its leading position in the development trend indicators in the synchronous perspective. Coinciding with innovations in special areas of knowledge, modern English acts automatically as a vocabulary producer for new forming onomasiologic structures to which the lexical-semantic field “Smart Energy Systems” belongs. Material and methods. Author’s corpus consisting of 1 144 lexical units served as a material resource for this research. The corpus was selected from authentic scientific and technical publications over the period from 2015 to 2019. The neologism status in the specified corpus segment was determined through lemmatic articles taken from representative lexicographical references books like “Dictionary of Mechanical Engineering”, “Dictionary of Technical Terms”, “Electropedia”, “Encyclopedia Britannica”, “Encyclopedia of Energy Engineering and Technology”, “Engineering Dictionary”, “Power Engineering Dictionary”, “Cambridge Dictionary”, “Collins Online Dictionary”, “Urban Dictionary”, etc. Structural and systemic approach constitutes the rational and empirical platform of this study enabling to interpret structural relations of lexical aggregates as a system (subsystem) of elements and the language as a structural and systemic formation. To determine the neologization extent of the lexical-semantic field “Smart Energy Systems” some traditional methods of logic (analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, contrasting, etc.) and statistics (quantitative, grouping method) as well as linguistic methods (descriptive and structural for component and constituent analysis) were used. Results and discussion. The formation of terminological neologisms is continuous while their lexicographical documentation is characterized by an impressive delay. Based on the quantitative and comparative analysis, the neogenic growth rate in thematic groups was determined and the localization of terminological neologisms in the lexical-semantic field was specified. The knowledge of neological distribution makes it possible to predict the trends of terminology formation in the field of smart energy systems in the modern English. Two and three component wordformative models are predominant in thematic groups which reflect their nominative function and display their tendency to specification. The vocabulary enhancement of the lexical-semantic field “Smart Energy Systems” follows two ways: the extension and abridgement of words and collocations lexical length reflecting current trends in the lexical enrichment in the modern English. Conclusion. Upon the analysis of the lexical-semantic structure of the lexical-semantic field “Smart Energy Systems” the following conclusion is made: the peripheral zone, formed around the core, contains the language material imported from allied onomasiologic fields and, therefore, distinguishes by the fastest pace of neologization.

Trofimova N.A., Shchitova O.G. COGNITIVE FRAME MODELING OF THE TERM SYSTEM OF THE SUBJECT AREA “BUILDING MATERIALS” IN RUSSIAN OF THE XXI CENTURY // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2022. Issue 1 (219). P. 65-75

Introduction. Nowadays linguists are increasingly interested in studying the terminology of professional sublanguages from the point of view of a cognitive approach. Cognitive frame modeling of terminology systems is becoming relevant being an effective way of representing the terminology of a special sublanguage. The aim of the work is to create and describe the cognitive frame model of the terminological system of the subject area “Building materials” in modern Russian. Material and methods. The material for the study is the terminological units of the subject area “Building materials”, selected from lexicographic sources on construction, regulatory documents, scientific papers, commercial catalogues of construction products, and professional internet websites about construction. The research methodology is based on general scientific and linguistic methods of descriptive and comparative research methods, including methods of linguistic modeling, framing, definitional, oppositional analysis as well as quantitative analysis. Results and discussion. The article identifies the main concepts of the frame approach to the study of terminology. The theoretical basis and interpretation of the concept of frame are presented, the frame structure used in this paper is developed. The work presents the frame model of the term system of the professional sphere “Building materials” in Russian. The paper defines the main subframes of this field: “Wood Materials”, “Ceramic Materials”, “Stone Materials”, “Glass Materials”, “Metal Materials”, “Cement”, “Concrete”, “Construction Mixes”, “Binders and Materials”, “Polymer Materials”, “Isolation Materials”, “Roofing Materials”, “Finishing Materials”. The analysis reveals the hierarchical frame structure, consisting of 13 subframes with their subsequent division into slots, micro-slots, and semantic groups. The study presents a detailed description of the subframe “Wood Materials” and the micro-slot “Composite Wood Materials” as well as semantic groups that are part of them. Various types of semantic relations between the terms representing the cognitive-frame model of the term system “Building materials” are revealed. Conclusion. The cognitive-frame model of the term system “Building materials” allows to present a hierarchically organized system of knowledge about a given subject area in a structured form and to identify system relations between the components of the term system. The presented fragment of the frame model illustrates the intra-system relations of the terms that verbalize it. The results obtained are of interest for terminology studies and can be used for educational and lexicographic purposes.
