The research novelty of the paper is in defining the functions performed by military collocations in military political discourse. The aim is to define the semantics and functions of military collocations in english military political discourse. The main methods of the research are functional-semantic analysis, contextual interpretation and continuous sampling method. The material of the research was the military collocations extracted from the texts of the press conference, the opening speech and the short statement of the NATO Secretary General J. Stoltenberg published on the NATO website; collocation dictionaries and English descriptive dictionaries. The military collocations in the statements of NATO Secretary General perform manipulative and informative function. Military collocations are considered to be one of the means of representing the opposition «ours» – «others» in the military political discourse. Military collocations perform manipulative function within a particular micro- and macrocontext of the situation, and on the condition that one or both components of the collocation have a negative evaluation semantics. The manipulative effect of military collocations is in distortion of information and false informing of the addressee. Such an effect is aimed at creating circles of «theirs». Military collocations performing informative function are used to denote types of military equipment and weapons, the amount of financing in the development of defense industry of NATO member countries, the scale of military power possessed by European countries that are regarded by NATO as «ours». The informative function of collocations is based on the nominative value of the units forming the collocation. The analysis of the functions of military collocations by the syntagmatic way has been carried out for the first time. Ryabova M.Y. COMMA FUNCTIONS IN MODERN AMERICAN ENGLISH DISCOURSE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 5 (202). P. 58-63

Introduction. The article deals with the problem of modern English punctuation in a written communication of American mass media (The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle). The paper is focused on the rules of putting comma as a sign, the functions of which are very contradictory and diverse, since in the same syntactic contexts it can be either allowed or avoided. The analysis of the comma functioning rules is explained by the fact that this sign often replaces all other punctuation marks in modern written communication. The aim of the work is to identify and explain the principles of comma functioning in modern communication (based on the material of American English) in order to facilitate the understanding of the laws of punctuation in the English language. Material and methods. The main research methods are the method of linguistic description, syntactic analysis, interpretative method, the method of stylistic description. Results and discussion. In the undertaken analysis, we claim that in American written communication, comma performs the following set of functions: dividing or separating syntactic units within a syntactic structure, highlighting the meaning, enhancing an expressiveness and semantic significance of a syntactic element, using the sign as an individualised stylistic means of expressiveness in the text. The scientific novelty of this work is systematization and scientific classification of functions typical of a comma from the point of view of the English grammar laws and their stylistic variation, which practically were not covered in other studies on the grammar of English. Conclusion. The proposed list of functions performed by comma in a modern American discourse allows us to offer students studying English a relatively complete overview of the possible meanings characteristic of this sign, and thus, remove some difficulties in understanding and mastering the syntactic theory of English.

Komarova E.N. PROFESSIONAL SELF-REALIZATION IN THE IDEA OF FUTURE TEACHERS OF THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2020. Issue 1 (207). P. 61-69

Introduction. The most important task of modern education is to provide opportunities for personal and professional growth and for the implementation of self-realization. The main approaches to the study of the concept of selfrealization are outlined. The results of a survey of future teachers of the Russian language are presented. The ideas of future teachers of the Russian language in relation to their professional self-realization are revealed. Material and methods. The study was conducted on the basis of the analysis of theoretical sources on the problem of self-realization and the results of a survey of students of the philological faculty. The author’s questionnaire consisted of 3 open-ended questions and 4 closed-ended questions. Results and discussion. Various approaches to understanding these concepts are analyzed and their own position on this issue is substantiated. According to the results of the survey, it was found that 15% of 3-year students and 55% of 4-year students are sure that professional self-realization implies continuous improvement in the chosen profession and the need for improvement. The needs arising for future teachers of the Russian language during pedagogical practice, which is a key link between the theoretical training of future teachers of the Russian language and their independent work in an educational institution, are characterized. Conclusion. Self-actualization is understood as a tendency to self-realization. And self-realization is a process of personality development, involving active cooperation with other people, the application of one’s own efforts. It is revealed that the pedagogical practice is a critical point in the formation of the future teacher of the Russian language. Before practice, the main difficulties for students are self-doubt and lack of knowledge in the field of methodological disciplines. After teaching practice, the lack of free time among teachers of the Russian language and the high intensity of work become the basic barriers for self-realization for students. This makes future teachers of the Russian language doubt their further professional activities. The question arises of the psychological and pedagogical support of students during practice.

Dubrovskaya N.V. THE SEMANTICS OF THE ATTRIBUTIVE CONSTRUCTIONS WITH THE COLOUR TERM “BLACK” IN THE TAZ DIALECT OF THE SELKUP LANGUAGE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 8 (197). P. 69-73

This work is devoted to the study of the semantics of the colour terms with the meaning of “black” in the Taz dialect of the Selkup language. The study of the prosaic folklore texts and lexicographical works showed that the main term for the black color is the lexeme sǟqy (sǟ). It can characterize the color of such objects from the sphere of animate and inanimate nature as: human skin (swarthy, sunburned and color of the bruise), human hair (brunette), plumage of a tomtit, colour of the silver fox, colour of the dense forests, peat, kings of spades or clubs in playing cards, colour of the water in the river (presumably the river of Angara) and the colour of clothing. There are examples of the male personal names, which include the color term with the meaning “black”. This study proposes the construction of the tables that include both objects characterized by the colour term in the Taz dialect and attribute constructions with the terms of colour. The table is accompanied by the comments and allows, on the one hand, to compare colour characteristics within one object, and, on the other hand, to study the semantics of the colour terms for “black” inherented for different objects. Thus, the present study based on the material of the Taz dialect of the Selkup language can serve as a basis for the further comparative studies and be of interest in the typological perspective, which can allow to fix the differences in the structure of the of the given semantic zone in the Selkup dialects.

Metlina A.E. MODEL OF TUTORIAL SUPPORT IN INCREASING THE PRODUCTIVITY OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2022. Issue 2 (220). P. 50-57

Introduction. In order to increase the effectiveness of the educational process, learning should be deliberate. The introduction of the model of tutor support into the educational process will solve the problem: to teach to learn. The learner becomes independent, with the correct attitude in life and the skill of self-organization. The tutor plays the role of a consultant, teacher, psychologist, coordinator. Aim and objectives. To substantiate the effectiveness of using the model of tutor support for students in the educational process of the secondary vocational education system. Material and methods. The article uses the data of the selective federal statistical observation of the employment of graduates who have received secondary vocational and higher education. A survey of students, graduating groups of the institution of secondary vocational education. Theoretical research methods were used; empirical methods: analysis and conversation. Results and discussion. The modern world is an environment of global instability and dynamic changes in all spheres. Therefore, potential employers highly value not only the professional qualities of their employees, but also social and psychological qualities (Softskills): communication, leadership, team, entrepreneurial skills. Employers note the lack of Softskills competencies among graduates of educational institutions: weak motivation and inconsistency of personal qualities (self-organization, motivation, initiative, responsibility, desire to learn) Among the most significant characteristics, graduates of the secondary vocational education system named: motivation; experience; general impression; professional competencies; ability to learn; IT-competence. According to the results of introspection, they also tended to give a low assessment of their level of development. And they expressed an opinion about the need to pay more attention to the development of personal competencies in the learning process; skills that will allow them to be competitive in the labor market, such as communication skills, personality marketing, time management, etc. In order to solve the basic problem of secondary vocational education: the intellectual, cultural and professional development of a person and the training of qualified workers or employees and mid-level specialists in all main areas of socially useful activity in accordance with the needs of society and the state, as well as meeting the needs of the individual in deepening and expanding education. The feasibility of introducing tutor support into the educational process is considered. The tutor plays the role of a consultant, teacher, psychologist, coordinator. On the basis of individual educational routes, the tutor achieves the formation of a harmonious, socially responsible personality of the student, focused on self-development and self-realization. In the model of tutor support, training is built taking into account the individual characteristics of each student, which allows him to maximize his potential. Conclusion. The model of tutor support should be considered one of the most promising. First, a tutor is a psychologist who helps a student to understand his inner problems, motives, desires, abilities; understand resources and limitations. Achieve a balance of desires and possibilities. Secondly, a tutor as a teacher teaches (forms the ability) independence: to set goals and objectives; identify opportunities and resources; develops the ability to act and the willingness to take responsibility for the decisions made. The third most important component: a tutor is an educator who builds the correct attitude to the world around him and himself; preservation of national identity, respect for the native language, culture and patriotism. The fourth vector of a tutor’s work is career guidance work. The development and movement along an individual learning path requires the tutor to be competent in the field of professional training of his ward.

The dialect language is directly related to the cultural tradition of the Russian peasantry. Dialect linguoculturology reveals the ability of linguistic signs to represent the cultural identity of the people. The study of lexical units, nominations of objects of material culture, expands the scientific understanding of how the worldview attitudes of the Russian peasantry and their ideas about the world order are attached to the word. The nominations of Russian national clothing have always been the object of attention of various scientific areas. The relevance of the work lies in the search for reliable and adequate sources of research for linguoculturological works. The purpose of the work is to determine the potential of sources involved in the study of the nominations of Russian folk clothing in the linguoculturological aspect. Firstly, the research identifies the range of cultural characteristics assigned to the nominations of clothing in the dialects of the Middle Ob region, based on the data of the Tomsk dialect dictionaries and the Tomsk dialect corpus. Secondly, the article presents the actual cultural components of the meaning of the word, extracted from dictionaries and the base of the corpus: this is gender, seasonality, material of manufacture, features of wearing, etc. of traditional Russian clothing. It is the first time when the materials of the Tomsk dialect dictionaries and the Tomsk dialect corpus are considered from the point of view of their informativeness and reliability as sources of linguoculturological study of the nominations of material culture objects of the rural inhabitants of the Middle Ob. Material and methods. The research materials represent the dialects of the Middle Ob, recorded in the dictionaries of the Tomsk dialectological school and the database of the Tomsk dialect corpus. The materials of the dictionaries and the Tomsk dialect corpus include the following groups: nominations for men’s, women’s, outerwear, underwear, headwear and footwear. The study showed that the cultural component of the lexeme is already manifested in the zone of interpretation. The illustrative material that accompanies the article clarifies and expands the cultural layer of the meaning of the word due to the actual functioning of the word in speech. The textual realization of the same word further expands the cultural representations attached to the word. Taken together, the data of these sources constitute a real picture of the existence of words denoting objects of material culture, even those that are outdated. The total number of studied nominations is 1 237; the studied lexemes realize in 5 279 text passages. Conclusion. The dialect lexicon contains an extensive layer of culturally specific units, nominations for items of clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc. Their linguocultural content is consistently traced in the works of the Tomsk dialectological school, both in the interpretation of meaning and in the illustrative part. The actual material demonstrating the functioning of the word in speech may contain information about the age of the carrier, his gender, status, financial condition. Lexical units denoting the color and material of clothing are also representative indicators. The materials of the Tomsk dialect corpus significantly expand the range of characteristics that make the nomination a cultural phenomenon. As a rule, the corpus materials make it possible to form an idea of the cultural realities indicated by the word.

Polyakova N.V., Khomenko S.E., Luzik O.A. Confrontational strategies and tactics as a means of representing speech aggression in political communication (based on Olaf Scholz’s speech). Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2024. Issue 4 (234). P. 84-92

Nowadays, political communication uses a whole range of confrontational speech strategies and tactics aimed at discrediting opponents in an information war, as well as imposing their point of view and forming a certain public opinion regarding discredited objects. A confrontational strategy provides the speaker with the opportunity to express a negative attitude towards his opponent, hostility and willingness to enter into conflict to achieve his own goals, ignoring the goals and interests of the other side. A confrontational strategy involves retreat and even violation of moral and ethical norms. Confrontational speech strategies include strategies of submission and persuasion, discrediting. Each of the strategies is implemented using different speech tactics. In order to effectively counter the threats of negative information impact, it is necessary to identify the speech strategies and tactics used by the German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which determines the relevance of the study. The purpose of the research is to study the confrontational strategies and tactics in O. Scholz’s speech, affecting a mass audience and aimed at discrediting both the image of Russia itself and Russian foreign policy. The source of the research material was Olaf Scholz’s keynote speech, which he delivered to the German Federal Government on February 27, 2022. This speech was the FGR reaction to the beginning of a special military operation by the Russian Federation. Descriptive and comparative methods along with contextual analysis techniques, as well as definitional, semantic analysis were used to achieve this goal. The article analyzes two confrontational strategies used by Olaf Scholz: discrediting, submission and persuasion. The discrediting strategy is used more often than the strategy of submission and persuasion. The following discrediting tactics have been identified: accusation, negative forecasting and polarization. The strategy of submission and persuasion is objectified with the help of threats and orders. Confrontational tactics act both autonomously (in isolation) and in combination with each other (combined).

Velichko M.A. INFORMATIVE CONGESTION AS A NECESSARY CONDITION FOR A SUCCESSFUL LINGUISTIC MANIPULATION IN ADVERTISING DISCOURSE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 3 (180). P. 9-13

The article considers the key features of communication as a tool of linguistic manipulation in advertising discourse. The aim of this study is to investigate the technologies of creating perlocutionary effect in American advertising communication. At the stage of the interpretation the vast majority of American advertising works consisting of few words are transformed into informative and pragmatic semiotic texts. Nowadays the US advertising shows a big variety of products with different degrees of verbal congestion. As a part of this study we have found a lot of advertising samples which include the minimum amount of verbal text: only the name brand or trade mark and single-phrase slogan. It should be noted that even the most minimum quantity of speech act expressed by the well-known and popular person lead to the greater intensity and immensity of its significance. Having analyzed the fragments of advertising texts we conclude that the informative congestion of communication is fundamental to its ability to persuade with the only proviso that by congestion we mean not the number of language units but the amount of their information content. The findings of the integrated and comprehensive study of the informative congestion of discourse and text can be used in pragmalinguistics, text linguistics, functional linguistics, theory of intercultural communication.

Petrochenko L.A. YIDDISH LANGUAGE BORROWINGS IN MODERN ENGLISH. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 10 (187). P. 107-111

Yiddish, the language of Ashkenazic Jews, arose about ten centuries ago as a result of contact with various dialects of Medieval German. Of all the Germanic languages, Yiddish looks least Germanic: it uses a Hebrew alphabet and is read from right to left, and its grammar and lexicon have undergone considerable influence not only from Hebrew and Aramaic, but also from various Slavic languages. Between 1890 and 1920 millions of Jews from Central and Eastern Europe boarded ships for America. They were fleeing the tragic events that shook the Old World. So Yiddish language and culture began its journey on a new continent. Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia were among the cities where Yiddish theaters, newspapers, and book publishers thrived. A Yiddish vaudeville sprang up, featuring performers who could switch in the blink of an eye from dances and funny jokes to sentimental songs. The heart of the culture lay in New York, where Second Avenue acquired the nickname “the Yiddish Broadway.” Yiddish words were quick to enrich American English - words like bagel, bupkes, chutzpah, klutz, schlemiel, schlep, schmuck, tchotchke, etc. Many words and phrases from Yiddish you can encounter today in American books, magazines, newspapers; or hear on television or radio, in movies or nightclubs; or may overhear on the street in many cities in the United States. The borrowings from Yiddish include specific ethnic and religious terms, words of conversational speech, pejorative words and terms of Jewish cuisine.

Zamyatina O.M. PRESENT-DAY SCHOOL TEACHER MATRIX OF COMPETENCIES. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2020. Issue 6 (212). P. 118-125

Introduction. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the term “competency” in relation to primary or secondary school teachers, present the competencies model for the 21st century teacher identifying four crucial pedagogical competencies such as subject, methodology, psycho-pedagogical, communication and six key skills for any personality that determine his/her successful life as well. Aim and objectives. The aim of the paper is to clarify and formulate, in accordance with the related educational documents of Russian Federation, the composition of those competencies that determine the ability of school teachers to successfully solve not only familiar, but new professional tasks that confront them in connection with the acceleration of the pace of development of society. An attempt has been made to present the matrix of 21st century teacher competencies in relation to the skills of a modern person, ensuring successful future for him/her. Material and methods. The research materials provided are the Teacher Professional Standard establishing requirements needed at present for the personality type and professional competencies for school teachers and the Model of Teacher Certification based on the use of Unified Federal Assessment Materials. The detailed analysis of the above materials demonstrates that, on the one hand, they all declare the application of the competency-based approach in educational activities. On the other hand, the list of competencies identified in them differ in both quantity and definitions. Thus, in the education community there is still no unified understanding of competencies for school teachers. The research methods used are the analytical survey for analyzing pedagogical texts, guidelines and regulations in the field of education and the modeling method as the model of the 21st century teacher competencies has been developed. Results and discussion. The economic future of our planet requires the design and implementation of a new educational system already in the 21st century. Students’ learning outcomes in the latest educational standards are associated not only with the development of subject knowledge and skills, but also with the formation of their personality mastering them by universal methods of educational activity, which ensure the successful solution of individual cognitive and other tasks both in the learning process and in other practices. In this regard, today the demand for a highly qualified, creatively working, socially active and competitive teacher who is able to educate a socialized personality in a rapidly changing world has increased. Teachers working with students should have a set of certain professional competencies that meet urgent needs of modern life. Conclusion. Based on the results of educational environment research, the idea of 6 (six) key skills meeting the following needs of modern society has been configured: cooperation, communication, critical thinking, content, creativity, self-confidence. The development of these competencies just provides a competency-based approach in education.

Polyakova N.V. COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MODERN QA TOOLS FOR WRITTEN TRANSLATION. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2022. Issue 4 (222). P. 51-61

Introduction. Special tools for assessing the quality of written translation – QA-tools (in English Quality Assessment) find common types of errors in the target text according to pre-programmed formal signs. The initial condition for these tools is the availability of the source and target texts. The program compares the corresponding sections of texts (paragraphs, sentences or segments) and marks all sections with suspected errors, forming a special report. The goal is to compare QA modules integrated into automated translation programs and independent QA tools. Material and methods. Methods used in the research on QA modules integrated into automated translation programs and independent QA tools include general scientific methods (logic methods: analysis, synthesis, generalization); specific scientific (linguistic) methods: descriptive, comparative. Results and discussion. The advantage of QA modules integrated into the automated translation programs such as SDL Trados, SmartCAT, Déjà Vu, MemoQ and Wordfast is the ability to monitor the quality of translation without using additional software and time resources. The translator is already familiar with the interface of the program in which he works, and can edit the text in it immediately after checking. QA modules integrated into automated translation programs can be used to assess written translations of different themes, however, the functions of the SDL Trados program are the most optimal for working with stylistically colored texts. The main advantage of independent QA tools for assessing the quality of translations such as Xbench, QA Distiller, Verifika, ErrorSpy and Linguistic Toolbox is the absence of the need to install complex and resource-consuming CAT programs for proofreaders, editors and managers of translation projects. Conclusion. QA tools have their advantages and disadvantages. The main advantages of modern QA-tools are: optimization of routine quality checks of the target text at different stages of its readiness; the ability to customize individual quality criteria for each project; reduction of the total duration of the translation project; ensuring uniformity of the target text, minimizing errors, etc. The disadvantages of QA tools are: the need to spend additional resources (additional time and hard disk space in case of installation on a user’s computer); the high cost of programs and a limited set of functions in case of using free or demo versions; the need to study the interface and configure the program for different projects; detection of a large number of potential errors, not all of which are real errors.
