Rhyming compounds represent the group of minor types of word-formation in Modern English. To create new knowledge, a process is needed that makes hard-to-reach knowledge understandable and accessible to perception. To start such a process, convert explicit, hidden knowledge into explanatory information. Information resources are an important component of the development of information and knowledge capacity. | 4524 | Introduction. The article focuses on the ways human beings conceptualize, structure and make sense of their physical and mental experience. Mental states of perception, imagination, belief, knowledge interact tightly with one another and this ontological nature is represented in the lexical semantics of the verbs see, imagine, believe, think, know. Thus, the main concern of the study is to highlight cognitive-semantic grounds of the semantic shifts of the imagine class verbs and to reveal syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic properties of the utterances arranged by these verbs. Material and methods. The research is based on the empirical data from available sources and corpora data. The research is conducted within the cognitive linguistics framework where a common view is that meaning has a cognitive nature. Results and discussion. The paper explores how lexical meanings get extended in a particular cognitive context. The findings of the study suggest that the verbs under consideration function as IMAGINERY VISION verbs and as epistemic verbs in the cognitive context BELIEF. The results obtained suggest that meanings of the imagine class verbs (supposition/evaluative judgment/wrong opinion) imply that related word “senses” may be part of a continuum of meanings rather than discrete entity. The research highlights polyphony as an important double-voiced dimension of the utterances with the imagine class verbs in the cognitive context BELIEF. Conclusion. The findings of the study prove that the meanings of the imagine class verbs occupy overlapping areas of semantic space. The results obtained may contribute to further studies of the word meaning theory. | 4525 | The article is devoted to the study and modeling of the associative and verbal field HUMANE PERSON in the linguistic consciousness of Siberian students. The study of associative and verbal fields of such world-modeling and axiological concepts is one of the urgent tasks of modern linguistic research, since their analysis allows to identify the most important worldview and moral attitudes of the carriers of Russian linguistic culture. The aim of research is modeling and analysis of the associative and verbal field HUMANE PERSON in the linguistic consciousness of Siberian students. In the course of the study, received reactions are considered from the formal, morphological and semantic points of view. The study is based on the material of a free associative experiment, in which students of 1-4 courses of four institutes of the Siberian Federal University took part. The survey involved 222 people aged 18 to 22: 142 female students and 80 male students. The response time was limited to 1 minute. As a result of the associative experiments, 433 reactions were obtained. From the point of view of formal-morphological characteristics, the structure of the associative and verbal field consists of single-word reactions (72.3%), as well as phrases and sentences (26.5%). The most frequent types of one-word reactions are adjectives (41.6%), the most frequent types of multi-word reactions are adjectival phrases (11.1%). In the process of modeling the associative and verbal field HUMANE PERSON, it was shown that its structure includes nuclear, perinuclear and peripheral zones (the latter is divided into near and far periphery). The nuclear zone is represented by the following reactions: kind (77), sympathetic (25), humane (23), respectful (22), kindness (20). The application of the semantic gestalt technique made it possible to identify four semantic zones in the structure of the associative and verbal field HUMANE PERSON: 1) the spiritual world; 2) properties and structure of the personality; 3) social ties and related activities; 4) name. The study made it possible to reveal the structure and content of the associative and verbal field HUMANE PERSON in the linguistic consciousness of Siberian students. The differentiating features of a humane person, in addition to certain moral qualities (kindness, responsiveness, humanity, mercy, compassion, tolerance, justice), also include his socially approved activities and actions (help, care, support, charity).
