Introduction. The focus of this paper is the observation and comparison of several symbolic connotations of British and Slavic basic color terms. Aim and objectives. The paper’s aim is to discuss cultural and linguistic commonalities and peculiarities of a few color terms and prepare educational resource for different disciplines, such as English, Russian as a foreign language, ethnolinguistic and linguacultural studies. Material and methods. This paper observes British and Slavic idioms with the component ‘color’ in its connotative meaning. A cross-disciplinary approach helps identify the essential place of color terms in interpreting linguistic picture of the world and emphasizes the integrative role of culture. We consolidate with ideas of L. Bloomfield and J. Lyons concerning connotative meaning in linguistic semantics. Results and discussion. Connotative meanings of color terms often become cultural symbols and serve as signs of some abstract concepts. Since color perceptions relate to the sensory sphere, they are easily transferred to the characteristics of emotions, dignity of character, behavior, appearance. Interpretation of color terms in their connotative meanings will provide insight into the national mentality. Connotative meanings reflect individualized situations based on national cultural values and norms of social life. In provided examples the basic meaning of a color term is becomingusually narrower. Conclusion. The comparative analysis of connotations of five color terms leads to following conclusions: 1) color is able to evoke certain emotions traced in languages in the form of idioms containing a color component; 2) differences in the semantic structure of color connotations in English and Russian are due to national and cultural peculiarities; 3) etymology of color terms and historical facts sometimes make it possible to establish the dependence of a symbol on practice; 4) the main (perhaps the most universal) source of color terms are natural objects with a characteristic color.

The article analyzes the problem of qualitative preparation and professional self-determination of graduates - future teachers in the context of self-monitoring of educational identity. Most higher educational organizations take into account, to varying degrees, new innovative educational technologies. The humanistic approach in education is relevant to the subject-subject paradigm, the transition to which is possible through the development and formation of subject positions of students, transferring them from passive consumers of information to actively and consciously acting participants in the educational process, subjects of educational activity. «Quality» is a fundamental parameter of any kind of activity and is now considered as one of the most important categories of philosophy and a term actively used in the modern economy. This process in the pedagogical system has specific features. Thus, the expert evaluation of the management of the quality of the pedagogical process, referring to the administrative language, refers to the internal audit of the content of education in a pedagogical university. Improving the quality of education also involves solving important methodological problems in the management of the quality of teacher education, which include the solution of the psychological and pedagogical problem of professional self-determination and educational identity. According to the authors, the self-monitoring procedure can complement the practice of developing subject-subject relations in the modern educational process, in the management of the quality of pedagogical education through the development of professional self-determination of graduate students.

The subject of discussion in this article is the model of creating a motivating educational environment focused on the continuous development of teachers of municipal autonomous educational institution «Ulu-Yulskaya secondary school» Pervomayskiy region Tomskaya oblast. Results and discussion. A model of creating a motivating educational environment for the systematic use of educational technologies by teachers. The interim results of the management team’s activities on preparing the team for changes, on introducing educational technologies into the learning process, and on motivating teachers to selfdevelopment are presented. Conclusion. The article analyzes the semantics of the lyrical themes related to the situations of the festivity in its different variations: funeral processions, circus performances and others. It is deduced that the importance of these lyrical subjects in the contest of the city’s image and in the aspect of their connection with the inner life of the lyrical hero. It should be noted that there are cases of contamination of different type of festivity in a single poetic text. Nevertheless it doesn’t mean that the individual content and form of each type of festivity’s system is missing. The author marks the motives of festivity’s lack of organicity, participants’ tiredness from their own dissembling. The situation of festivity is included in the context of ontological bases of being, principles of time and death. The importance of festivity’s catastrophic conclusion, when the man is unable to defend himself from tragic state of the world is deduced. Those texts in which emerges the phantasmagoric scene of the Ball of the dead men occupy a particular position. This scene represents the generation of the lyrical hero-poet’s inner world. This kind of festive plots’ transformation incarnate the idea of tragic bases of creative gift.

From the standpoint of activity theory we discuss the methodological features of teaching students skills for solving mathematics problems of higher level of complexity. The paper considers the names of perching birds in the Selkup language. The ornithonyms are systematized and their morphemic divisions let us defi ne their possible initial meaning for the Selkup nation. The aim of the paper is developing nomination characteristics of the considered ornithonyms.

The article discusses Leskov’s publicist heritage, which focuses on different social problems of his time, united by common thoughts, genre-stylistics searches of the writer. This makes publicist heritage a system, with its center being the theme of people interacting with a number of other themes. Among this themes the author highlights the theme of art. Leskov perceives it as an important catalyst in the development of the spiritual life of the people, the development of national identity and historical memory. The writer puts forward painting (especially icon making) and literature, he strongly believes that this arts can foster spiritual personality.

Urazmetova A.V. RELIEF PECULIARITIES OF TOPONYMIC NICKNAMES OF THE AMERICAN STATES. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2014. Issue 10 (151). P. 34-38

Toponymic nickname – is a new name based on the associations with reality phenomena. Wide use of secondary nominations is a characteristic feature of the toponymic system of the USA. Each state, apart from its official name, has a number of nicknames, which can be official and unofficial. This article is devoted to the linguocultural analysis of toponymic nicknames of the US States, motivational characteristics of which are relief and water resource peculiarities. This group of American nicknames is clearly restricted in the English language and presents an interesting material for the linguistic analysis. This article regards different classifications of the analyzed units as well as their motivational and quantitative analyses. Secondary nominations of the US States reflect the peculiarities of the flat, hilly and mountainous relief. The last one prevails over the flat and hilly relief. Water resources (among which the most productive motivation is rivers) occur more often than the objects of the area relief. One more particular feature of the units under the investigation is the fact that they are presented by the nominations with absolute or full motivating, since the facts, events and geographical names, put in the basis of the secondary nominations, are always evident.

The relevance of this study is due to the socio-cultural aspects associated with the development of visual communications in modern urban space. The visual landscape of the city assumes an abundance of advertising information in various spheres of human activity. This leads to an increase in the requirements for people of different specialties in the field of visual communication skills. The problem is a contradiction: on the one hand, the visual level of the urban environment is constantly growing, on the other hand the approaches to education in this direction are not so wide and do not meet the requirements of the time. At the moment, there are many technologies for solving creative problems in the visual arts and design - this is a whole spectrum of researchers who pay attention to the issues of a full-fledged educational cycle, but the problem is to correctly choose and integrate them into the accelerated educational process (refresher courses). In this regard, the issue of creating a methodology for teaching the composition and working with it within the framework of the advanced training courses “Graphic Design. A basic level”. The goal was to create the most concise and effective way of learning to work with the mounting composition and the principles of working with a stain within the framework of this composition. Attention is paid to the processing of visual images in a virtual environment, through the Adobe Photoshop CC raster graphics editor, to achieve the maximum speed for processing visual data. Approaches to creating an assembly composition with pre-prepared image libraries are described. The article will be useful to teachers of creative specialties, designers, artists, researchers in the field of visual culture.

The game activity contributes a lot to maintaining optimum movement regime of young learners. The basic constituent of game activity is collective games. Physical and psychological components in games are closely connected. Thus, children realize movement needs, expend their energy, improve the main physical skills. Moreover, from the one hand, they learn to be initiative, independent, persistent, from the other, to control themselves, consider peers opinion, submit their actions with other participants of the game.
