| 5407 | Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues is the author of a very peculiar dramatic work, whose main characteristics are related to a poetics of the excess and a modernization of tragedy. There are two trends in his works: one that is closer to universal and mythical aspects of life, and another one that is closer to the historical and daily aspects. His own life was full of tragic events which made him feel that tragedy is a dimension that intrinsically belongs to humanity’s trajectory in this world. So the tragic sense of life was part of his world view and his philosophical conceptions. It was then natural that this tragic world view would be present in his literary creation at the several genres he explored, especially in his dramatic works. But his tragic approach is always mixed with melodramatic events and an excess of feelings, actions, and the grotesque, so that it frequently becomes comic at the same time. Nelson Rodrigues was influenced by both the high fine literature of the Western tradition and the subliterature of the beginning of the 20th century, and his mixture of them together makes up an original and very interesting creation. This paper fundamentally approaches the tragic as belonging to the playwright’s life — as well as his world vision — and also belonging to the works of Rodrigues by analyzing events in his, his readings, the opera and cinema techniques he was familiar with in order to reflect about their influences on his work, as well as to discuss formal aspects and subjects that make it possible to consider his dramatic works as belonging to the tradition of tragedy at the same time that he subvert and recreates the tragic standards in his own fashion. | 5418 | Introduction. The onymic vocabulary in the category of German pseudo-borrowings is currently understudied. While pseudo-borrowings are traditionally considered in the etymological and word-formation aspect, in the practice of analysis of the onymic category and its etymological segments a great role is played by the selection of onomastic subclasses of pseudo-borrowed onyms, the constellation of which is determined by the nature of the empirical material. The appeal to ways and models of word formation is conditioned by the necessity to highlight the structural and systemic features of the studied units and their role in the pseudo-foreign naming by means of the German literary language. The aim of the paper is to identify the ways and models of onym formation in the German pseudo-borrowings class. Material and research methods. The empirical basis for the study is 190 pseudo-borrowed onyms, selected according to the criteria of posteriority, impaired reversibility and belonging to the class nomina propria from a number of German-language print and online editions, including translated comics, onomastic registers and regularly updated dictionaries Duden and DWDS. The dictionary search was carried out mainly with the use of marker words containing the German confix “pseudo-”. The epistemological basis of the analysis is the structural-systems approach, the implementation of which is aimed at revealing the structural features of the studied vocabulary set. A corpus of general and special scientific methods was used to analyze the material. General scientific methods were the methods of logic (analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization) and statistics (quantitative methods, the method of grouping), private scientific (linguistic) – methods of structural linguistics (method of component analysis and traditional-complex method). Results and discussion. Most of the empirical corpus segments of this study consist of pseudo-Gallicisms of the first and second groups as well as pseudo-Latinisms. Although the Gallicisms of the second group and Pseudo-Latinisms are derived from elements borrowed from dead Gallic and Latin, they continue to be used in German literary speech. A great variety of subclasses are represented by pseudo-Latinisms, among which there are anthroponyms, a large number of ergonyms, pragmatonyms, peisonyms and a class of fictionyms in the subclass of anthroponyms. The names of comic book characters translated into German, represented by the class of fictionyms and the subclass of anthroponyms, are formed using a variety of word-formation models. In addition, one of the fictional character names considered in this paper, in the segment of pseudo-Hispanisms, has the greatest lexical length (11 elements). Thus, it can be assumed that thanks to such a variety of ways to form lexical units the authors and translators of comics manage to convey the expression and, to a certain extent, the distinctive features of certain characters. The word-formation possibilities of pseudo-usage onyms in German depend on which segments and sub-classes form the empirical corpus. Conclusion. The proposed material is intended to expand the understanding of the nature of pseudo-borrowings in German literary speech and to deepen the differentiation of onymic and appellative categories of this class of vocabulary. The results can be used for lexicographical and educational purposes, in translation practice and in the teaching of modern German. | 5419 | Introduction. The research is carried out within the framework of the theory of functional grammar and is aimed at studying semantic features of concessive relations and specialized means of their expression in Russian. The formal and substantial variability of concessionary constructions is noted, and an assumption of stylistic heterogeneity of language units expressing the semantics of concession is suggested. Material and methods. In spite of the research of concessionality, including its representation as a constituent part of the conditionality field, the semantics of concession and its expressive means have not been previously examined from the aspect of functional and stylistic usage. The formal, semantic and stylistic variation of concessionary units, conditioned by communicative settings and linguistic features of scientific style, are studied. The texts of the nuclear genre of scientific discourse – 3708 scientific articles of different thematic orientation, published in ranked Russian journals – were used as the material. Results and discussion. Scientific works devoted to the linguistic expression of concessive relations in Russian demonstrate the complexity and heterogeneity of this type of semantics and different ways of its expression. The analysis of concessive constructions in scientific articles on philology, history, biology, engineering and information science and economics shows that complex sentences with the conjunctions despite/disregarding that, but, however, although, as well as simple sentences with the prepositions despite/disregarding, despite, regardless of, etc., can be considered as special means of expressing these meanings in scientific language. On the basis of the quantitative data obtained, the article presents the percentage ratio of concessionary units in scientific articles on different topics and reveals the productive means of expressing the concession for each topic. From the point of view of the concession field, the most typical particular meanings of the concession (concessive-predicative, concessive-restrictive and real-concessive) and the absence of other meanings realized in other styles of the Russian language (concessive-predicative, concessive-retributive and reinforced-concessive meanings) were revealed. Conclusion. As a result of the study the average indicator of concessionary relations in the articles on different topics of scientific style was established, the substantive, formal and stylistic variation of concessionary units was noted, the correlation between the thematic focus of the articles under consideration and certain means of expressing concession was revealed, which requires further study. | 5430 | The purpose of the article is to describe the language education capabilities of social networks in teaching Russian as a foreign language. The key aspects of the critical analysis of the non-specialized social networks potential in teaching a foreign language were: 1) features of communication in social networks from the point of view of foreign language education; 2) the functionality of social networks available for teaching Russian as a foreign language; 3) positive effects associated with the use of a social network in teaching a foreign language; 4) comparison of the capabilities of different social networks, image-boards and instant messengers in teaching Russian as a foreign language. Methods and research material: content analysis of Russian-language research on the language education use of social networks in teaching RFL, phenomenological and comparative analysis of social networks VK (VKontakte), Facebook*, image board Instagram* and Telegram messenger. The material for the study was samples of experience in using social networks in teaching Russian as a foreign language, obtained based on the random sampling method in the social networks VKontakte and Telegram. Research results. The foreign language education potential of social networks in learning a foreign language is associated with different types of speech activity (reading, writing, listening and specific speech production) implemented through Internet communication. By representing reality through text, audio, video and visual materials, social networks provide the opportunity for targeted teaching of a foreign language: their functionality allows you to create thematic communities that can become a virtual space for the formation of an artificial language environment. There, foreign communicants studying Russian as a foreign language can 1) create, publish and perceive text in verbal, photo, video, audio format on a personal page or in a thematic community; 2) leave comments under the publication, add subtitles or script text to the video; 3) express your assessment through symbols under the publication (use emoticons); 4) search for information; 5) send and receive voice or text messages, 6) use a chatbot or virtual assistant for communication, question and answer services; 7) conduct a survey/vote or participate in it; 8) use hashtags or keywords, monitor updated information on the hashtag; 9) fill out the calendar of events and important dates; 10) formulate “status” (from one word to a phrase about the current state of the author; 11) Create a conversation (polylogue) for specific participants and participate in it. The peculiarity of communication in social networks, therefore, lies in the variety of types of speech and cognitive activity of communicants. Learning in social networks follows the principles of micro-learning (short-learning). Using the discursive features of the platforms themselves, it mimics familiar content, the consumption of which takes modern users a significant amount of time every day and thus implements the foreign language education principles of entertainment and accessibility. It creates the horizontal connections in communication, combines synchronous and asynchronous nature and allows you to use linguistic and non-linguistic means to study Russian as a foreign language, thereby forming an artificial language environment necessary in conditions of lack of natural communication. * Social networks Facebook and Instagram are products of Meta Platforms Inc. – an organization whose activities are currently prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation. | 5441 | Introduction. Though the Church Slavonic composites have been thoroughly studied, many problems concerning the origin of this linguistic phenomenon in the early stages of Church Slavonic literature still remain open. Aim and Objectives. The purpose of this study is to analyze the methods of translating of Greek composites to the Church Slavonic language in the early stages of the history of Slavic literature (the end of the 9th - the beginning of the 10th centuries). Material and Methods. The investigation was performed on the base of the Slavonic translations of the Byzantine hymnography of the Triodion cycle. We studied comparatively with their Greek texts four Slavonic translated hymns: the Akathistos Hymn, the Great Canon of Repentance by St. Andrew of Crete, the Alphabetical Shichera from the Great Canon service and the Antiphons of the Great and Holy Friday by the Church Slavonic manuscripts (Lenten Triodion and Pentecostarion) of the 12th - 13th centuries. Results and discussion. In the Greek texts of these hymns we found 147 composites and analyzed the options for their translation by Slavic scribes in terms of their morphemic and syntactic structure and semantics. Based on the structure, Slavic correspondences to Greek composites were divided into untranslated borrowings, phrases, single-root semantic correspondences, original composites and calque-composites. Most of these categories were further divided into structural and semantic subcategories, with the different ways of reproducing of the semantics of the Greek composites. In percentage terms, the most insignificant category was borrowings. The calque technique actively used by Slavic scribes, however, covers less than a half of the total number of Slavic correspondences. We observed a considerable variation in the Slavic translations of Greek lexemes and root morphemes, while the same morpheme as a part of different composites could be translated as a single word, root or affix. Conclusion. The status of the calque in the early stages of the history of the Church Slavonic language was just one of the methods of conveying the semantics of a Greek composite, without a conscious intention of the scribes neither to copy the structure of the Greek words nor to establish invariant lexical, morphological and structural correspondences between the source and the target language. | 5442 | The problem of linguistic variability remains acute due to the dynamism of national language development. The study of phraseological units of biblical etymology in the aspect of their variability has recently become increasingly significant, as the fact of wide use of phraseological units derived from biblical texts and stories in various types of discourse is noted. The diversity of variants of biblical phrases requires identifying, organising and structuring the types of their variation. The aim of the research is to identify new variants of biblical phraseological units that are widely used in various discourse types (fiction, media, publicistic, historical, political). Contexts that verify the resulting data of the research were borrowed from the British National Corpus (BNC), News on the Web (NOW) and electronic dictionary Reverso Context (RC). Language material for the research was extracted out of 3 phraseological dictionaries: 1) the bilingual “English-Russian phraseological dictionary” by Alexander V. Kunin, 2) “English-German-Swedish Dictionary of Biblical Phraseology” by Tatyana N. Fedulenkova and others, 3) the multilingual phraseological dictionary “The Mite of Biblical Wisdom” by Zoya K. Adamia and others. The research methods, namely the method of the phraseological identification, the method of the structural and componential analysis, the method of the quantitative analysis and the method of contextual analysis, allow to analyse 350 phraseological units of biblical origin that are actively used in modern English and identify a set of variants that include both usual and occasional simple variants, i.e. lexical and grammatical, quantitative variants of phraseological units and mixed or complex variants of phraseological units. It was found out that along with linguistic variation, phraseological variation is the result of the natural development of language as a system. Variation of biblical phraseological units is not equaled to phraseological synonymy. The analysis of selected biblical phraseological units allowed us to identify the following types of variants: simple variants and complex variants (e.g. substantive-quantitative variants, adjectival-quantitative variants, verbal-quantitative variants) of phraseological units. Within each of the given groups, a division into usual and occasional variants is made. Simple variants are represented by lexical variants (including substantive variants, prepositional variants, prepositional-substantive variants, attributive variants, verbal variants); grammatical variants (including morphological variants and morpho-syntactical variants); quantitative variants (with truncation and addition of components). Truncated parts of a phraseological unit may be represented by three types (truncation of the initial part of the phraseological unit; truncation of the final part of the phraseological unit; mixed truncation). A group of quantitative comparative variants is distinguished, in which the first conjunction (as) as a result of regular truncation becomes optional, resulting in quantitative-variative pairs. A type of mixed variation has been identified, implying the origin of variants by multiple modifications. Substantive-quantitative variants are formed by changing the substantive component together with varying the structure of the phraseological unit by expanding it with a variable component with a preposition. Adjectival-quantitative variants are formed as the result quantitative variation (expansion of the structure of the phraseological unit) coupled with the replacement of the adjectival element. With the help of corpus data, the preference of native speakers for some variants of idioms over others was successfully revealed. The conclusion is made that the studied phraseological units borrowed from the Bible are not static, but are ‘living’, constantly changing language units, widely used in modern English speech. Moreover, both simple and complex variation in the component composition of a given phraseological unit has no significant impact on the invariant meaning of the phraseological unit.
