| 5401 | Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues is the author of a very peculiar dramatic work, whose main characteristics are related to a poetics of the excess and a modernization of tragedy. There are two trends in his works: one that is closer to universal and mythical aspects of life, and another one that is closer to the historical and daily aspects. His own life was full of tragic events which made him feel that tragedy is a dimension that intrinsically belongs to humanity’s trajectory in this world. So the tragic sense of life was part of his world view and his philosophical conceptions. It was then natural that this tragic world view would be present in his literary creation at the several genres he explored, especially in his dramatic works. But his tragic approach is always mixed with melodramatic events and an excess of feelings, actions, and the grotesque, so that it frequently becomes comic at the same time. Nelson Rodrigues was influenced by both the high fine literature of the Western tradition and the subliterature of the beginning of the 20th century, and his mixture of them together makes up an original and very interesting creation. This paper fundamentally approaches the tragic as belonging to the playwright’s life — as well as his world vision — and also belonging to the works of Rodrigues by analyzing events in his, his readings, the opera and cinema techniques he was familiar with in order to reflect about their influences on his work, as well as to discuss formal aspects and subjects that make it possible to consider his dramatic works as belonging to the tradition of tragedy at the same time that he subvert and recreates the tragic standards in his own fashion. | 5416 | Introduction. The article examines the problems of the formation of Soviet children’s literature of the 1920s-1940s using the example of the satirical works of S. Marshak of the war years. The relevance of the research is determined by the development of the problem of «beastness» as a key metaphor for the ideological impact on a person. The content of the article is an analysis of the poetic means of creating the image of hero, the study of its genesis and the specifics of expressive means. The aim is to study the techniques of satirical depiction of a fascist child in the works of Marshak during the Great Patriotic War. Material and methods. The research material is a complex of texts by Marshak about «Young Fritz». The mentioned texts and the question of the genesis of their poetics have not attracted special attention of literary critics until now. Analytical-descriptive, cultural-historical, hermeneutic methods are used. Comparison of texts with video sequences of cartoons and films is based on the methodology of intermedia analysis. Results and discussion. The study of Marshak’s 1941 poem «Young Fritz, or the exam for the “beastness” certificate» shows that the «bad upbringing» clearly demonstrated in the text becomes the main object of the writer’s satire, realized not only in this poem, but also in works of other types of art created on its basis. Traditions of a negative image of a German child in the book of M. Saltykov-Shchedrin “Zarubezhom”, a number of texts by German authors of the second half of the 19th century are noted. Conclusion. The satirical strategy of depicting the enemy chosen by Marshak turns out to be multidirectional: the poet showed how dangerous pedagogical achievements in modeling a person of a certain type are. | 5417 | Functional literacy is considered as a systemic educational result of basic general education, aimed at socializing the teacher through solving real problems using subject and meta-subject knowledge. The structure of functional literacy is represented by a set of components: reading, natural science, mathematics, financial, critical and creative thinking. The formation of a set of these components requires the design within an educational organization of an appropriate motivating environment, which includes social, cultural, as well as specially organized psychological and pedagogical conditions. Designing a motivating educational environment is the result of the activities of the school's teaching team, which accepts this as a strategic task and solves it through joint efforts. Mathematical literacy is defined as the ability to solve real-world problems through a set of activities: conducting mathematical reasoning, as well as formulating, applying and interpreting. The process of developing mathematical literacy can be carried out in various forms: lesson, workshop, extracurricular and project activities, etc. Each of them has its own specific features. Thus, the lessons provide mastery of specific mathematical content and demonstration of its use to solve life problems. The workshop, which serves as a complement to mathematics lessons, places emphasis on students mastering the method of mathematical modeling, for which various methods of presenting data are used: text, graphic, tabular, photo, drawing, etc. Also, when conducting a workshop, there are more opportunities to combine individual, group and collective form of work. Extracurricular activities, which are characterized by a wide range of different forms of learning, can also be productively used in the process of developing mathematical skills. Depending on age, this could be a club, an elective, etc. Another variant of the model for the formation of mathematical literacy is educational design, when students independently solve a certain problem using a set of subject knowledge under the guidance of a teacher. Project work can be carried out either individually or in a group, including students of the same age and of different ages. Project activities allow you to build productive communication between students and develop teamwork skills. Project activities allow you to organize various interdisciplinary projects where different types of functional literacy are combined. | 5422 | The problem of linguistic variability remains acute due to the dynamism of national language development. The study of phraseological units of biblical etymology in the aspect of their variability has recently become increasingly significant, as the fact of wide use of phraseological units derived from biblical texts and stories in various types of discourse is noted. The diversity of variants of biblical phrases requires identifying, organising and structuring the types of their variation. The aim of the research is to identify new variants of biblical phraseological units that are widely used in various discourse types (fiction, media, publicistic, historical, political). Contexts that verify the resulting data of the research were borrowed from the British National Corpus (BNC), News on the Web (NOW) and electronic dictionary Reverso Context (RC). Language material for the research was extracted out of 3 phraseological dictionaries: 1) the bilingual “English-Russian phraseological dictionary” by Alexander V. Kunin, 2) “English-German-Swedish Dictionary of Biblical Phraseology” by Tatyana N. Fedulenkova and others, 3) the multilingual phraseological dictionary “The Mite of Biblical Wisdom” by Zoya K. Adamia and others. The research methods, namely the method of the phraseological identification, the method of the structural and componential analysis, the method of the quantitative analysis and the method of contextual analysis, allow to analyse 350 phraseological units of biblical origin that are actively used in modern English and identify a set of variants that include both usual and occasional simple variants, i.e. lexical and grammatical, quantitative variants of phraseological units and mixed or complex variants of phraseological units. It was found out that along with linguistic variation, phraseological variation is the result of the natural development of language as a system. Variation of biblical phraseological units is not equaled to phraseological synonymy. The analysis of selected biblical phraseological units allowed us to identify the following types of variants: simple variants and complex variants (e.g. substantive-quantitative variants, adjectival-quantitative variants, verbal-quantitative variants) of phraseological units. Within each of the given groups, a division into usual and occasional variants is made. Simple variants are represented by lexical variants (including substantive variants, prepositional variants, prepositional-substantive variants, attributive variants, verbal variants); grammatical variants (including morphological variants and morpho-syntactical variants); quantitative variants (with truncation and addition of components). Truncated parts of a phraseological unit may be represented by three types (truncation of the initial part of the phraseological unit; truncation of the final part of the phraseological unit; mixed truncation). A group of quantitative comparative variants is distinguished, in which the first conjunction (as) as a result of regular truncation becomes optional, resulting in quantitative-variative pairs. A type of mixed variation has been identified, implying the origin of variants by multiple modifications. Substantive-quantitative variants are formed by changing the substantive component together with varying the structure of the phraseological unit by expanding it with a variable component with a preposition. Adjectival-quantitative variants are formed as the result quantitative variation (expansion of the structure of the phraseological unit) coupled with the replacement of the adjectival element. With the help of corpus data, the preference of native speakers for some variants of idioms over others was successfully revealed. The conclusion is made that the studied phraseological units borrowed from the Bible are not static, but are ‘living’, constantly changing language units, widely used in modern English speech. Moreover, both simple and complex variation in the component composition of a given phraseological unit has no significant impact on the invariant meaning of the phraseological unit. | 5433 | This article provides an evolutionary approach to the linguistic problem of encoding and interpretation of a conceptual content by means of body part names in the Old Russian and the Old English languages. Applying the category analysis to word semantics in diachrony enables us to decode the primary links between words and concepts that these words denote. The diachronic study of lexical semantics provides explicational potential, revealing recurring tendencies and the prospects for meaning generation and development. The lexicographic data of the Indo-European proto-language create the necessary basis to determine the ways semantic categories of objectivity, quality, quantity, space, and time can adapt and transform in the Slavic and the Anglo-Saxon linguistic consciousness. The comparative analysis of the Old Russian and the Old English body part names and their proto-Indo-European roots adds clarity to the processes of category transition and semantics formation. The semiotic complexity of human body contributes to the expansion of the objective space of body part names by means of incident semantics. The conducted research correlates the inventory of the Old Russian and the Old English somatic fragments with their Indo-European reflexes. The results testify to the dynamic nature of categories in the evolution of lexical semantics, indicating the vectors of semantic change. | 5444 | Introduction. The article deals with semantic groups of polonisms in the Russian literary text of the XIX‒XXI centuries. Aim and objectives. The article aims to identify, describe and systematize representative semantic groups of polonisms in the literary text of the XIX–XXI centuries, as well as to analyze the extralinguistic and linguistic reasons for their actualization and the leading functions. Material and methods. The material selection for this study was carried out in stages. At the first stage about 30 literary works selected by thematic (about Polish events), biographical (the authors are of Polish origin) and linguistic (the texts should have been written in Russian, not translations) criteria were considered. At the second stage for a detailed study the works by V. V. Krestovskii „The Bloody Pouf“, Z. Shishova and S. Tsarevich „The Adventures of Casper Bernat in Poland and Other Countries“ and V. R. Medinskii „The Wall“ were taken as the most representative in terms of borrowing from the Polish language. Systematization of Polish origin words on the semantic principle, which provides a basis for studying their functioning in a dynamic aspect, was subordinated to the concept of a „Large explanatory dictionary of Russian nouns“ edited by L. G. Babenko (2005), in which the general typical situation is the basis for combining nouns in a semantic group of words. Results and discussion. The article describes in detail the following representative semantic groups of polonisms: „religion“, „nutrition“, „social relations“, „military service“. The analysis of semantic groups of Polish elements in the Russian language showed a steady tendency to their number reduction in the literary text of the time period under study, except for polonisms of military subjects. The authors identify both extralinguistic and linguistic reasons for this process: the interest decline in Poland in reading circles due to the deactualization of the „Polish issue“, the loss of religion significance, changes in the way of life, the social inequality neutralization, the phonetic and semantic proximity of polonisms and native Russian words. The study also showed that the leading functions of polonisms, namely characterological, identifying, evaluating and clarifying, are generally permanent in the literature of the last three centuries. These functions of words of Polish origin are not directly related to their semantics, the use of polonisms corresponds to the traditions and tasks of artistic storytelling. Conclusion. The analysis of semantic groups of Polish elements in Russian language showed a steady tendency to reduce their number in the literary text in the studied time period, except for polonisms of military thematic. The results of the work can be used in the study of language contacts, dynamic processes of Russian-language artistic discourse, in lexicographic practice. | 5445 | Introduction. The contents and linguistic-didactic potential of the new linguistic trend are studied in the article from the viewpoint of functional-stylistics. Aim and objectives – developing the ideas of N. A. Kupina and T. V. Matveeva, the founders of creative stylistics, and extending of its problematic. Material and methods. M. N. Kozhyna, N. A. Kupina, T. V. Matveeva, M. P. Kotyurova and others served as the theoretical material for the article; fragments of texts, which represent the creativity of their authors, served as empirical material. The research uses functional-stylistic and interdisciplinary approaches that analyze speech creativity in its extralinguistic causality. Results and discussion. The article reveals that the rise of creative stylistics as an independent area of speech studies was caused by M. N. Kozhina’s ideas on the differentiation between linguistic and verbal expressions. The links of creative stylistics with a number of disciplines united by anthropocentric paradigm are discussed, that is: resource stylistics, linguistic-pragmatics, discourse theory, etc. The tasks of creative stylistics are specified with the authors taking into account N. A. Kupina’s and T. V. Matveyeva’s conception. In the article the authors present the specificity of creative component in functional varieties of written speech: artistic, media, scientific and official texts. The authors find that creativity relates not only to surface layer but also to the semantic layer of the text, that diversity of manifestation depends on the functional, stylistic and discursive parameters of speech. The authors provide the examples of both productive and non-productive use of creative media in the texts of network literature, media and advertising. The authors point out that creativity in scientific texts is connected with the nature of cognitive activity, that creativity manifests itself through intellectual expressiveness while presenting new knowledge, that the scientist’s individual speech style influences the presentation. In the official sphere, creativity is associated with the emergence of new interactive forms of communication between administration and community and it is found primarily in non-documentary genres. Based on the achievements of creative pedagogics, the objectives and contents of adjacent applied disciplines (didactics, speech culture etc.) are adjusted to the necessity of forming a creative linguistic personality (in demand in the modern society). It is stated that the complex approach to language teaching, including verbal-semantic, cognitive and pragmatic-stylistic components of didactics helps to respond to the challenge. Conclusion. The interpretation of creativity with extralinguistic and discursive factors of communication being taken into account fits in the paradigm of modern speech studies and provides wide opportunities for creative stylistics in the research of the creative component of speech activity in all its diversity. | 5446 | Introduction. The research is carried out within the framework of the theory of functional grammar and is aimed at studying semantic features of concessive relations and specialized means of their expression in Russian. The formal and substantial variability of concessionary constructions is noted, and an assumption of stylistic heterogeneity of language units expressing the semantics of concession is suggested. Material and methods. In spite of the research of concessionality, including its representation as a constituent part of the conditionality field, the semantics of concession and its expressive means have not been previously examined from the aspect of functional and stylistic usage. The formal, semantic and stylistic variation of concessionary units, conditioned by communicative settings and linguistic features of scientific style, are studied. The texts of the nuclear genre of scientific discourse – 3708 scientific articles of different thematic orientation, published in ranked Russian journals – were used as the material. Results and discussion. Scientific works devoted to the linguistic expression of concessive relations in Russian demonstrate the complexity and heterogeneity of this type of semantics and different ways of its expression.
