Nizkodubov G.A. The Current Stage in the History of American English.. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2006. Issue 4 (55). P. 96-101

In the traditional context of language teaching, English as an additional language is usually based on the standards of either British or American English. However, with the advent of the Spanish language in the USA, the concept of a single supranational standard to which both UK and US norms contribute may no longer exist. Thus, in particular, explains that the Spanish language is having a greater influence in the rapidly expanding area of American English.

Safonova E.A., Khatyamova M.A. INTERPRETATION OF DEATH IN THE LYRICS OF N. OTSUP. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2015. Issue 6 (159). P. 190-196

This article analyses the russian emigre poet Nicolay Otsup’s poems. In his emigre works death becomes the main motif. The 1930th Otsup’s works reflect the spiritual crisis of emigration, the hard search for God and His essence. Otsup borrows a lot from G. Ivanov and G. Adamovich, and at the same time his poems are deeply individual. Poet’s existential sufferings have religious connotations and thus lack the last feeling of despair. The 1930th works contain incipiency to religious notion, that is characteristic of his 1940th–50th years’ works. The poets’s route from “the philosophy of tragedy” to “philosophy of hope” explains his postwar fate and Otsup’s creative works, poet explains the sufferings, on the verge of the disaster he finds love of life.

Dubskikh A.I., Butova A.V., Zalavina T.Y. THE VERBALIZING MEANS OF POSITIVE SELF-PRESENTATION IN THE “STAR” INTERVIEW. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 4 (193). P. 53-58

The paper is devoted to studying the communicative and pragmatic foundations of personality self-presentation and its significance in the process of communication. In modern society the intensification of communicative processes demands considerable resources from a person to govern the impression. The development of mass communications and political technologies increases the importance of governing the impression and constructing one’s own image that is not only a mean for various kinds of manipulation, but is a necessary element of self-realization for every person. Most researchers of self-presentation note the man’s aspiration to create a positive image is formed by tactics of emphasizing positive information. The implementation of the tactics in the “star” interview suggests the demonstration of positive characteristics, outstanding leadership skills, and the ability to overcome difficulties, the source of creative inspiration. The texts of the “star” interview are analyzed from the various ways of verbalizing the tactics of emphasizing positive information. The spectrum of lexical-semantic and syntactical means, conducive to positive selfpresentation of the public person is carefully analyzed. The practical value of the work is determined by the possibility to use its provisions and conclusions for preparing training courses and special seminars on communication, cognitive linguistics, pragmalinguistics, and image.

Keywords: communication, self-presentation, image, a positive image, the “star” interview, the tactics of emphasizing positive information

Kudryashova A.A., Salenko O.Y. IMAGE AND MOTIF OF TIME IN CHILDREN’S LITERATURE OF THE EARLY 1940-IES (THE TALE OF LOST TIME BY E. SCHWARTZ, THE HOT STONE BY A. GAIDAR, TWELVE MONTHS BY S. MARSHAK). Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 6 (203). P. 56-62

Introduction. In the history of Russian literature for children, the period of 1940s is distinguished by the thorough attention to the image and motif of time by major writers. It becomes, on the one hand, the universal motive and reflects “the style of epoch” (Yuri Mineralov), on the other hand, great writers – Arkady Gaidar, Samuil Marshak, Evgeny Schwarz – present their artistic understanding of the time phenomenon in their individual styles, motives, images, techniques. The “inner form” (Aleksandr Potebnya) of an artistic work, that image of the “image of time” is interesting as a phenomenon. As a result of the comparative analysis, general and peculiar stylistic features, which represent the image of time in individual styles of the specified writers, were revealed. It was important to take works that are close in time of writing and analyse them in a synchronic perspective: all selected works are written in the range of 1941–43. As a result of the comparative analysis, the general ideology of the era reflected in the individual styles of these authors was manifested, that determines the relevance of the presented work. The aim of the study is to compare the plots and systems of images in the context of images and associative traditions of literature for children in 1940es. The novelty of the work lies in the convincing identification of stylistic dominants of the image and motif of time in these works at the level of plot, system of images, a particular technique – a sudden change in the age of the characters. Material and methods. The methodology of the study is based on the works on “inner form” by Aleksandr Potebnya and works on style by Pavel Sakulin, Yury Mineralov. In the definition of biographical time, we follow Valentin Halizev, in determining the motive we follow the work of “Historical poetics” by Aleksandr Veselovsky. Research methods: comparative-typological, historical. The theoretical significance of the work realises in the use of research materials in “Literature for Children”, “Introduction to literary studies” academic courses. The practical significance of the work is implemented in material for seminars for the study of A. P. Gaidar, Marshak and E. L. Schwartz works, and also for “Theoretical basis of the readers’ activities” practical classes on course. Results and discussion. The results of the study lead to the identification of typological convergence of the image and motive of time in the literature for children of the 1940s. However, one can trace the typological variation in individual styles of A. P. Gaidar, S. Ya. Marshak, and E. L. Schwartz. The Gaidar’s image of an old man is an integral part of his customary system of images, and it also plays a key role in the revealing of the image of time. In the works we have reviewed, Gaidar emphasizes the exceptional importance of transferring not just life, but life-building experience from the old to the young. It can be stated that the transfer of such experience motif is the leitmotif in the works of Gaidar (See Timur and His Team and The Hot Rock). On the contrary, the old men in The Tale of Lost Time, a story about Schwartz, are endowed with destructive evil magic power that can only resist the team of schoolchildren living in reality and, what is most important, catching up with their time. In the dramatic tale The Twelve Months by S. Marshak, the Princess’s individualistic attempt to control and speed up time is exposed not only negatively, but at the same time it looks pointedly senseless and absurd. Conclusion. In the reviewed works the motif and image of time are disclosed in the combination of art and didactics, what is considered traditional feature for literature for children. The stylistic convergence of the works by E. Schwartz and A. Gaidar is embodied in the plot-forming role of biographical time. The key stages, such as childhood and senility, reflect the symbolic plan of the beginning and the end of life. The change of epochs and generations, the transfer of social experience, major events in the life of society and individuals reveal the inextricable link between historical, social and creative levels.

Stakhin N.A. AN EXAMPLE OF USING COMPUTER ALGEBRA MAXIMA IN THE DISCIPLINE “COMPUTER MODELLING”. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2015. Issue 12 (165). P. 86-92

The article deals with the modelling of pilot falling from a height of 6 000 meters in water. It is shown that the use of computer algebra system (CAS) Maxima qualitatively improves the consideration of the topic “Freefall considering environmental resistance”, traditionally studied in the discipline “Computer simulation”. Maxima has found the general solution of the nonlinear differential equation and found a partial solution with zero initial conditions – the Cauchy problem. CAS Maxima has found the analytical expression for the rate of fall and height fallen down as the functions of time. CAS Maxima has obtained the asymptotic behavior of the rate of fall in the time and has calculated the rate limit of fall. CAS Maxima calculated numerically intermediate values of fall speed and height fallen down for the 15 time values in the range of 1–15 in increments of 1. These values are compared with analogical values calculated by numerical method in book, with the standard deviation for rate is equal 2 %. CAS Maxima has plot graphics the rate of fall versus the time.

The analysis is based on the theory of figurative language and combines the semasiological and cognitive approaches to the description of figurative language units that implement conceptual metaphorical and metonymic models through the system of their meanings. The motivating names for figurative words and expressions are 52 units including diminutives and word-formation: bottle, fork, spoon, mixer, bowl, knife, pepper, glass, plate, cup, etc. These names motivate 225 figurative lexical and phraseological units: “bochka” (very fat person), “kuvshinka” (waterlily), “kak myska” (about round and convex shape of something), “proyti kak nozh skvoz’ maslo” (easily, without difficulty), etc. Described figurative words and expressions represent metaphorical projection from the source-sphere “Dishes” to the 9 target-spheres (“Person”, “Artifacts”, “Nature facts”, “Social phenomena”, “Space” and others) associated with the figurative characteristic of the physical and non-material world, each of which is described in the article in detail. The greatest number of figurative words and expressions denote the phenomenon of reference to the following areas: “Person” (80 units), “Artifacts” (62 units), “Social phenomena” (46 units), “Nature facts” (16 units). The final part of the article is devoted to the lexicographic description of figurative vocabulary that reflects metaphorization of dishes in the Russian language and includes examples of dictionary entries.

This work, being a part of the last created poetic book of B. A. Sadovskoy “Abode of Death” (1917), is analyzed in the context of the genre tradition of the poem “Monument”, which began with the world literature Horace’s ode “To Melpomene”. It is reported that the latest author reinterprets polemically thematic and stylistic elements typical of the mentioned tradition (ekphrasis, the motives of the immortality of poetry and fame of the poet in the memory of future generations, the “national geography” theme of distribution poetic glory), reflected in the translation and poetic setting of Horace’s odes by M. V. Lomonosov, G. R. Derzhavin, A. A. Fet, G. S. Baten'kov. Special attention is paid to polemic dialogue between Sadovskoy’s “Monument” and a poem by A. S. Pushkin “I have erected a monument for myself...”, which largely determines the structure and meaning of the work of the newest poet. The conclusion is that the B. A. Sadovskoy’s work preserving the main features of the genre traditions of the poem “Monument”: thematic and stylistic elements of epitaph (antapite), ekphrasis, poems-wills, “the last poem” has undoubted potential to rethink this tradition which appear in the poetic practice of later authors (V. Tsukanova E.V. LEGAL DISCOURSE IN THE ASPECT OF INSTITUTIONAL SPECIFICITY: LINGUISTIC ASPECT. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2020. Issue 5 (211). P. 96-102

Introduction. The article highlights the specifics of the legal discourse in the aspect of its institutional interdependence and space conceptualization of metaphor terminology. The aim of the article is to identify the interrelation between the SPACE (horizontal/vertical) conceptualization of the metaphorical terminology of the Russian legal discourse and the horizontal line classification by branches of law and the vertical hierarchical system of the Russian legislation system. Material and methods. The legal discourse notion and its specificity is considered through the prism of legislative system branch classification accepted in the Russian Federation. The conceptual structure of the legislation system arranged in the form of the horizontal line classification by branches of law and the vertical hierarchical system of conceptual metaphor representation is realized through the terminology of the legal discourse. Results and discussion. Conceptualization in the field of metaphor terminology directly reflects the conceptual structure of the law branch. Although there is a broad variety of grounds for classification typology, the conceptualization of knowledge structures depends directly on the branch of law. Legal branch metaphor terms are constructs of a particular branch of legal discourse, which transfer special concepts of mentality regarding the objects of a particular branch of legal discourse. Conclusion. The analysis of the specifics of the institutional legal discourse reveals the conditionality and interdependence of the knowledge conceptualization within metaphor modeling in the legal terminology. The nominative means for the concepts system transfer are based on the terminology concept system and are determined mainly by the legal context (i.e. legal branch). The content of the knowledge structures in the legal discourse terminology is determined and influenced by the evolution of the legal knowledge within the framework of language and socio-cultural community.
