Within the new direction of social history, the subject field of which is the study of the social processes that accompanied the global conflicts of the 20th century, forms an objective idea about the attitude of the French-Canadian population on the problem of Canada‘s participation in the collective defense of the British Empire during the First World War. The paper examines the views of various groups of French-Canadian society (provincial government of Quebec, Roman Catholic Church’s representatives, French Canadian nationalists, provincial press of different social and political orientation) on the question of sending French-Canadian battalions to Europe. The chronology of the described events includes the first five months of the First World War (August – December 1914). As a result of the research, it estimates the level of imperial loyalty of the population of Quebec on the question of Canada‘s participation in the imperial wars. It studies the objective and subjective factors of the passivity of voluntary recruitment in Quebec (lack of military experience of the French-Canadian population, insufficient number of provincial police forces, traditionalism of the the rural population, anti-militarism propaganda of French-Canadian pacifists and nationalists, imperial policy of Department of Militia in Federal Government). Romanenko A.S. THE PROBLEM OF DEFINITION OF METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH TO STUDY OF LITERARY CONSTANTS. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2014. Issue 9 (150). P. 126-130

The article attempts to determine the methodological approach to the study of literary constants in the framework of the interdisciplinary research on the border of cognitive linguistics and literary criticism. Literature is considered as one of the types of mental activity of a person, obeying the same laws as the other types of mental activity. It is believed that the textual study in the context of modern anthropocentric trends of Humanities should be displayed on the mental level. Therefore, we should conduct research with the involvement of the methodology of cognitive poetics. The unit of text analysis in this case is the artistic concept, which allows to track the process of formation of individual author's conceptosphere represented in the text. It is stated that there is the difference between an “artistic concept” and “сultural concept”, “conceptual art” and “artistic image” because the same artistic concept can receive representation through various images. Creation of a common terminology and a clear delineation of related concepts helps us to avoid mixing of methods and techniques of research, the receipt of erroneous conclusions. Due to concept as a literary category still is not fully understood, we believe that the development of methodology in conceptual analysis of literary constants is one of the primary tasks of modern philology.

Kudryavtseva I.P. PERSONAL PERCEPTION OF TIME EXPRESSED BY ENGLISH SET EXPRESSIONS IN MODERN LITERARY TEXTS. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 10 (187). P. 96-102

The article considers individual aspect of time perception. Firstly, a brief theoretical review of problem studies goes. Depending on mood and activity, personal time proceeds either quickly or slowly and it can be either pleasant or not. Positive emotions bring a deceptive impression of a fast flow of time. Negative emotions, on the contrary, subjectively lengthen the time intervals. The practical part examines around 30 modern English set expressions denoting time as perceived by a person. The conclusion says that the perception of time as short/long or pleasant/unpleasant is expressed in speech through fixed collocations used by authors of modern fiction. Short time is described in dictionary English set expressions as “fun” and “it flies”. Long time “hangs heavily on one’s hands.” Unpleasant time is “bad, hard, dark, evil, rough, thin, lean and it is not one’s own. Pleasant time is “good, easy, the best of one’s life, the time of one’s life, high and there’s a lot of it”. Pleasant time “has its moments, it is one’s finest hour and it makes one’s day”. Fiction authors’ creative thinking depicts bad time as “poor, awful, dreadful, horrible, terrible, very uncomfortable, devil of a time and hell of a bloody time”. Pleasant time is “nice, lovely, great, excellent, delightful, smashing, terrific, fantastic, marvelous, riotous, and dead good”. The considered aspect of a writer’s individual style of personal, timerelated vocabulary is worth further research.

Szajdak L., Maryganova V. QUANTITIES OF INDOLE-3-ACETIC ACID IN SECONDARY TRANSFORMD PEAT-MOORSH SOILS. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2008. Issue 4 (78). P. 34-38

The investigations of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) were performed for three different peat-moorsh soils - Czarna Wies, Otoczne and Kwatera 17 located in the Biebrza River Valley in Poland. Each considered soils were utilized as meadow. Soil samples were taken from two depths: 5-10 cm and 50-80 cm. IAA, total organic carbon (TOC), dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in peat moorsh soils from these samples were analysed. The significant differences in the concentrations of IAA, TOC, and DOC between two investigated depths of among peat moorsh samples were observed. The measured concentrations of total organic carbon in the considered soils ranged from 37.2 to 45.6 %. Generally, the decrease of IAA, total organic carbon, however, increase of DOC concentration with depth of profiles was observed. The contents of dissolved organic carbon in the soils ranged from 5.3 to 19.4%. The quantities of IAA decreased simultaneously with TOC values and with the increasing depth of the soil profiles. The highest contents of IAA was determined in high layers of moorshes and ranged from 110,1 to 128,7 µg kg-1 dry mass. However the concentrations of IAA in deeper layers were lower and ranged from 69,3 to 87,1 µg kg-1 dry mass.
