The ability to identify errors is of high priority for a future teacher of foreign languages. This will help students acquire and master necessary professional skills and will introduce the idea of language norm, as well as develop the ability to analyze and generalize information. Evaluating the quality of a written text can be done in an effective way by the knowledge of proofreading exercises. These exercises can really help students only if they are conducted in an organized manner and the students practice them consistently. The system of activities introduced in this article is designed for teaching students proofreading and includes four units. The Introduction acquaints students with the symbols, used for marking errors and provides first training. The Practice includes different in-class activities, such as peer evaluation, proofreading students’ own texts and games. In the Assessment part the author suggests the criteria for evaluating students’ proofreading skills. Some ideas for Creative Work are offered. The content of each unit is revealed in the article. Getting students to recognize problems in their writing is an important challenge which is best dealt with in class exercises. | 1868 | The morphological structure of the above-ground part of the cane areas of the plant 24 local populations Hedysarum gmelinii Ledeb., grown in the Mountainous Altai and Khakassia, was studied. A complex adaptive morphological traits and the degree of influence of the factor of adaptation of plants to different heights above sea level (from 300 to 2200 m ) on their variability in plants of this species are revealed. According to variance and regression analyses, adjusting to the increasing height above sea level in H. gmelinii inhibition of the intercalary meristem growth is shown. When climbing structure shoots varies significantly, but the transformation in plants is minor. The changes in above-ground parts of shoots ensure the preservation of particular role in cenosis and reproductive capacity, together with other peculiarities of structure in plants H. gmelinii in mountain conditions. The material of research is the texts of the interviews (2004–2017 years). The author of the article describes in detail the three levels of the artist’s professional language personality: 1) the level of professional consciousness; 2) the verbal level; 3) the motivating and pragmatical level. The texts of the interviews give knowledge about N. O’Shea’s views of nature of creative work, things which inspire the artist, her musical and general erudition. Natalia O’Shea considers her creative work as a complicated subjective process of connection of individual impressions and emotions with allusions to literary works, fairytales and myths. The artist compares songwriting with stained-glass window creation, cultivation of flower etc. She notes that her activity as a musician is tightly connected with her scientific interests in philology. Natalia O’Shea knows terminology of music very well. In her stories about songwriting and recording of songs, playing the musical instruments the artist uses not only professional lexis, but different expressive means of language. | 1881 | Introduction. The article investigates the lexical means of the symbolic and metaphorical representation of the concept of “Fire” in M. Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita” in terms of their language semantics and cultural connotations, analyzes the significance of this artistic concept for expressing the author’s worldview. The purpose of the work is to investigate the ways of linguistic representation of the concept of “Fire” in the text of the novel “The Master and Margarita”, to identify aspects of their metaphorical and symbolic interpretation at the verbal and conceptual levels, to study the role of this concept in the artistic worldview of the novel. Material and methods. The methodology of work is based on cognitive, linguoculturological and systemicstructural approaches in the study of the figurativeness of the language and artistic speech used in the field of semantics of linguistic units and stylistics of text. The empirical material consists of figurative words and expressions (143 units) which represent the concept of Fire in M. Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita”, as well as fragments of the text demonstrating its symbolic and metaphorical functioning (160 contexts). Sources of definition of linguistic meanings and mythopoetic symbols were published explanatory and encyclopedic dictionaries. Results and discussion. In M. Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita” were defined the lexical and textual fund of artistic representations of the concept “Fire”; there were revealed methods and techniques of its textual implementation. The cultural and symbolic meanings of the concept were investigated in the mythology of different cultures. The aspects of the metaphorical and symbolic interpretation of this concept were described in the artistic worldview of the novel “The Master and Margarita”, as well as its role in expressing the author’s intention. Conclusion. The concept of “Fire” is represented in the text structure by a multitude of direct and metaphorical lexical representations expressing various aspects of the manifestation of the fire element through a system of zoomorphic, anthropomorphic, somatic images. Images of fire form the basis for a metaphorical description of a wide range of phenomena of the surrounding world (parts of the human body, precious stones, celestial bodies, everyday objects) and the human inner world (feelings, emotions, conditions). The symbolism of this system of images has deep mythopoetic roots and translates the main meanings of the ideological content of the work. | 1900 | In the paper various interpretations and functioning of the pedagogical concepts competence and competency are considered. Our investigations of professional competence of the teacher have shown that in the modern educational paradigm there are four senses, put in the meaning of the given concept: pragmatic, educational, general pedagogical and personality senses. At the end we concluded that in most general view competence of the teacher in modern educational paradigm integrates cognitive (knowledge), operational (methods of activity and readiness for activity realization) and axiological (availability of certain values) aspects.
