Emelyanova J.B. PROBLEM AWARENESS AS ONE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRANSLATOR’S LINGUA-CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 10 (187). P. 136-141

A review of the relevant literature has shown that translation is a unique mode of language use which is significantly different from ordinary communication in a foreign language. The author introduces the concept of “problem awareness” as one of the key characteristics of the translator’s lingua-cultural knowledge. Problem awareness is essential in translation which involves switching between languages. It is understood as the awareness of the linguistic factors causing breakdowns in code-switching in translation, as well as the ability to deal with such problems. These linguistic factors include idioms and proverbs/sayings, translator’s false friends, culture-specific concepts, geographical names and confusing words similar in form, meaning or use. Each linguistic factor is described and its ability to interfere with the process of code-switching is explained. Based on these facts a list of relevant skills and psychological characteristics is presented for each group of linguistic means. The author then provides guidelines for ensuring a targeted approach to the teaching of the above-mentioned linguistic means. These recommendations also include a description of the types of activities which are especially relevant in the context of teaching foreign languages to trainee translators.

Poleva E.A. MOTIVE COMPLEX “PEACE – SILENCE – WORD” IN THE NOVEL BY LENA ELTANG “STONE MAPLES” (“KAMENNYYE KLYONY”) // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 9 (206). P. 147-156

Introduction. The modernist esthetics of Lena Eltang’s prose, as well as the biographical factor (she is a fourthwave emigrant who now lives in Lithuania) explains the value for the author and characters of the novel’s word, the speech as a method of conservation and expression the inner world of a person in a non-native environment. The purpose of the work is to identify the semantics and functionality of the main point in the novel “Stone Maples”/”Kamennyye kloyny” (2008) by L. Eltang of the motive complex “peace – silence – word/speech”. Material and methods. The method of research is a motivational analysis based on the works of B. Gasparov, I Paperno, V. Silantyev, O. Rusanova. In understanding of the general cultural semantics of the motives of silence, peace and speech, we rely on the works of O. M. Freidenberg, M. Epstein, A. Genis. Results and discussion. The analysis performed to identify the central place of the silence motive in the selected motive complex. The motive of silence is multifunctional: it participates in the movement of the plot, draws up the image of the main character and characterizes the relationship between the characters, appears as the one of the narrative techniques (ignoring the addressee, silence in response), also accompanies the development of the theme of creativity. Silence is interpreted as a reorientation of the person from external to internal, from waste of words in oral speech to their accumulation for creating a text. Silence is existential: it is a condition for capturing the “call of being” and invitingly itself, helps another to pay attention to the subject of silence. The semantic difference between the motives of silence and peace is significant. The first is internally potentially resolved by speech, word-life, the second relates to death, loss of identification, ability to express oneself. Сonclusion. It is based on the poetics of neomythologies and uses the general cultural semantics of the motive complex “words – peace – silence: in an individual experience of the main character which repeats the stories of the heroes of ancient myths and fairy tales, living an archaic plot of silence – a word which is synonymous of the plot of death – resurrection (O. M. Freidenberg).

Interjections are used to express feelings, emotions, moods, wills without naming them. Many interjections outside speech and intonation have no definite meaning and, depending on the speech situation, they can express the most diverse emotions. From a lexical point of view, interjections are characterized by their uniqueness – they do not call anything and like intonation are expressive, but not meaningful. In the syntactic sense, interjections are not members of a sentence, since they do not have control, adjacency, and coordination links.

This article addresses the potential of mentoring in gifted education. The purpose of the research is to analyze theoretical and methodological perspectives of giftedness and specify the role of mentoring in the development of gifted individuals. Materials and methods. The author reviews and conducts a theoretical analysis of Russian and international scholarly literature on giftedness and mentoring; outlines Russian and international practices of mentoring the gifted; describes the main characteristic features of gifted individuals; summarizes the obtained data. Results and discussion. The author considers giftedness as a complex system and describes its main components which determine successful or problem development of gifted children and adolescents. Consequently, gifted children and adolescents need more individualized interventions and informal relationships. The article reviews retrospectively the most prominent international research investigations which revealed positive correlations between the experience of mentoring relationships and success and high achievements of their participants. Formal programmes of mentoring are designed in order to achieve positive outcomes of informal mentoring relationships. The majority of such programmes follow theoretical models of giftedness. The author describes R. Subotnik’s Talent-Development Mega- Model and clarifies the stages of domain trajectories when mentoring is mostly required. Conclusion. The author summarizes theoretical and methodological perspectives of giftedness. They include the following: 1. giftedness is a complex system of personal attributes and qualities which determine a possibility of high achievements in one or more domains and is considered as a result of whole personal development of the gifted individual; 2. gifted people have special needs for individualized support, guidance and special attention within an enriched facilitating learning environment which are determined by the heterogeneous nature of this group of learners; 3. essential characteristics of mentoring make it an appropriate method for meeting educational needs of gifted and talented learners. We show here how it is possible to build a OFT on the horizon of a Schwarzschild-like spacetime That theory, found by restricting bulk quantum fields on the horizon, is equivalent to GFT on the bulk. That fact is called Holography. Moreover the hidden conformal symmetry (SL(2, R)) found for the bulk theory becomes manifest on the horizon in terms of some of its diffeomorphisms. Then the extension of group of the generator of that symmetry to the Virasoro algebra is discussed.
