| 3757 | The article focuses on the analysis of syntactic organization of epistolary texts from the perspective of regulativity theory, developed in the framework of the communicative style of the text – a new and promising direction of functional stylistics. Regulativity is understood as the ability to manage through the text the reader’s cognitive activity. The key thesis advocates judgment that the regulativity as a universal text-forming feature has specifics of its manifestation in the letters – the most relevant for the type of epistolary texts, due to the peculiarities of epistolary communication sphere. The factors determining the specificity of epistolary regulativity include: distance character of communication between the addresser and the addressee, bound by the written form of verbal contact, the special role of extralinguistic factors (аuthor of the target installation, the nature of the relationship communicants, thematic and situational context, genre form), informality and ease of dialogue, his lack of preparation, automatism, spontaneity. We should particularly mention the factor of polidiscursivity of epistolary. For the material served the private letters of the representatives of Russian creative intelligentzia of the ХХ century (M. V. Nesterov, F. I. Chaliapin, V. I. Vernadsky, M. I. Tsvetaeva, Yu. M. Lotman, V. S. Vysotsky, D. D. Shostakovich), characterized by the presence in their speech of the rich palette of regulatory assets and syntactic structures. This is largely due to the brightness of the personalities of the communicants, originality of idiostyle of each addressee and syncretic and stylistic properties of their letters. Among the most significant regulatory syntactic means include: simple, one-piece, incomplete, exclamatory and interrogative sentences, homogeneous terms, word order, and various forms of transfer of another’s speech. | 3758 | The article deals with the analysis of means of expressing the semantic field of the category of deficiency in the novel “The Minds of Billy Milligan” by Daniel Keyes in English. The category of deficiency includes two main components: physiological and mental. The notional category of deficiency is represented by the structure in the semantic field with the core and peripheral parts. The core of the semantic field of the mental deficiency includes three components: 1) medical terms of mental disorders; 2) lexis meaning underdevelopment of mental abilities; 3) lexical means expressing psychic disorders. The peripheral part of this mental unit has not been represented for special consideration in this work. Means of multiple personality disorder component within mental constituent of the category of deficiency in English have been presented. The interconnections between mental component of the category of deficiency and legal-regulatory, moral-ethic aberrations in English have been observed. | 3761 | The article contains the analysis of the images of toys in the works of Siberian writers of the beginning of the XXI: the story-tale “Princess Agashka in the Land of Unknown Animals” by S. K. Danilov, “Pegasus” by V. V. Shkalikov, “The Year of the Princess Bukashka” by Yu. S. Burkin. A toy, which has the oldest origin and combined ritual sacral, playful, psychological functions, is one of the classic images of children’s literature. All these properties are reflected in different ways in the works of the Siberian authors. In the story-tale by S. K. Danilov the old toys serve as assistants, guides, custodians of knowledge, as a mirror image of the inner world of Agashka, and also personify the state of abandonment and desolation, thereby contributing to the formation of important personal qualities of the main character. Old dolls, personifying true values (kindness, friendship, charity) are contrasted with Cindy dolls, symbolizing the values of the era of consumption. Overcoming the temptations associated with the problem of choosing life ideals, Agashka leaves the Playground of the Land of Unknown Beasts and goes to the real world with a personality. In the “Pegasus” by V. V. Shkalikov in the image of a wooden saltcellar are found the oldest solar images-symbols (winged horse, bird), which have important cultural and historical significance. The act of creating a toy made of natural material leads to the awakening and, in a literal sense, the revitalization of inanimate material, becomes the impetus for inducing heroes to search for the meaning of existence. In the cycle of stories by Yu. S. Burkin “The Year of the Princess Bukashka” the toys perform an important function of the amulet. In addition, references to classical children’s literature-works by L. Carroll, S. K. Lewis, A. N. Tolstoy, Sasha Tcherny, A. Barto, etc. are found in the works of Siberian authors. Keywords: S. K. | 3762 | Introduction. The paper is devoted to the oligarchy’s description as an axiologically marked phenomenon from the language point of view. The necessity to take into account the perception of oligarchy in other cultures, the analysis of the national peculiarities of the oligarchy representation in the language, the need for the comparative research make the study of the mentioned phenomenon up-to-date. Material and methods. Mass-media texts retrieved from the sub-corpus of the British national corpus (NOW corpus) serve as the material for the analysis. NOW corpus contains newspaper and magazine articles dated 2010-2018. Results and discussion. Collocation analysis of the term oligarchy in the British national corpus is carried out according to the following criteria: types, characteristic features, co-occurrence with other concepts, metaphoric conceptualization of the phenomenon under study. As the result of the analysis it is shown that oligarchy’s representation in the British mass-media discourse is determined by social and discursive peculiarities of a definite linguo-culture. Alongside with the universal features (the connection of oligarchy with a definite sphere of human activity) the English language possesses special terms for denoting this destructive phenomenon in this or that country. In examining the relation between oligarchy and other negative phenomena the latter is viewed not as different from the rest of the destructive things but as synonymous to them (corruption and oligarchy, despotism and oligarchy, imperialism and oligarchy). The metaphoric representation of oligarchy is not constituted by a wide range of features. The theoretical relevance of the research consists in the development of the mass-media discourse and axiological linguistics’ theory through the analysis of the ordinary definition of the term on the basis of newspapers and magazines. The applicability of the study consists in the possibility of using the results of the analysis while studying other axiologically marked phenomena in different cultures and through the prism of different time segments. Conclusion. The paper outlines possible prospects for research, including consideration of the interpretation of the phenomenon of oligarchy on the material of English discourse in the diachronic aspect, which will complement the results and identify those aspects of the presentation of the analyzed phenomenon that are not present in the representation of the oligarchy phenomenon in modern English. This work summarizes the preliminary results of the implementation of the course on anti-terror management for students-radio technicians of the Department of Television and Control of the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics, studying under the master’s programs related to electromagnetic compatibility. The inclusion of this discipline in the curriculum is due not only to the vulnerability of electronic systems to deliberate force electromagnetic influences, but the need to increase interest in studying for a master’s degree, improving the quality of education and following the trends of modern education. The purpose of the work is to consider the introduction of interdisciplinary courses in the educational process as a factor affecting the quality of education. Material and methods. The work contains the rationale for the introduction of an interdisciplinary course on counterterrorism management, a brief description of the sections of the course and their significance in the training program for undergraduates in electromagnetic compatibility. Results and discussion. The result of the work is a prepared course for undergraduates, related to the study of mathematical methods of anti-terror control, as part of the implementation of master’s programs related to electromagnetic compatibility. Conclusion. The knowledge gained by undergraduates in this course, related to understanding the nature of terrorism and the skills acquired in creating appropriate models, combined with knowledge in the reliability of electrical and radio engineering systems, increase the capabilities of countering terrorism. The formation of additional knowledge, skills and abilities within the framework of the implementation of master’s degree programs allows to improve the quality of training of students and their competitiveness in the market. Master students not only got acquainted with these methods at lectures, but also actively discussed them in tutorial mode. The characteristic of different ways of organizing methodological activities is given: reproductive, constructive, research. Тhe following comparison criteria were used: positions of participants in joint educational activities, subject of methodological activities, methodological tools, features of working with educational information, organization of the educational environment, result. This article describes the use of phraseological units with the word component “time” on the basis of texts from the literary works of the American writer Irwin Shaw (1913–1984). Aim. To trace the usage of phraseological units with the component “time” in the context of literary texts with the help of semantic and contextual analysis. Material and methods. The research material includes several novels of the author of the fifties and eighties of the twentieth century: “Acceptable Losses” (1982), “Bread Upon Waters” (1981), “Beggarman, Thief” (1977), “Voices of a Summer Day” (1965), “Lucy Crown” (1956), “The Troubled Air” (1951). The method of phraseological semantic analysis was used as well as the method of phraseological identification. Results and discussion. The article considers phraseological contexts in detail concerning their semantics. Set expressions are distinguished by the following meaning: repeatability, duration, time interval, time point, time relations, time scale and subjectively estimated time. Within each group there is an additional separation by differential seme and examples of phraseological units with the discussed meaning. Repeatability (constantly, often, sometimes): all the time, for the hundredth time, from time to time. Duration (long): half the time, take one’s time. Time period (waiting or a waste of time): a waste of time, stall for time, bide one’s time. Time point (favorable time): in one’s own time. Temporary relations (simultaneity, sequence, at the time arranged): one thing at a time, at the same time, it’s about time. Timeline (present, past, future): for the time being, at the time, for old times’ sake, in good time. Subjectively estimated (pleasant or unpleasant): have a good time, have a hard time and give smb a rough time. Conclusion. Phraseological contexts are found in normal and occasional forms. The usage of phraseological units in speech exposes additional shades of meaning. The actual material and conclusions of this work can be applied in teaching special aspects of phraseological stylistics and the use of modern English set expressions in speech. | 3800 | The article discusses examination discourse within the framework of sociolinguistic approach. Being an integral part of any society at a certain period of its development, examination or final testing procedure can be regarded as a separate unit of any status-oriented discourse where the key role belongs to the participants of communication. Taking into consideration pragmatic features of examination discourse the following constitutive characteristics were outlined and analyzed: goals and objectives of communication, time and place of communication, communication environment, participants of communication, their status and role in the process of communication, means and strategies of their interaction within examination procedure. In the framework of current research it was found that examination discourse encourages the candidate to demonstrate knowledge and skills he/she possesses in certain subject and at the same time it acts as an instrument of candidate’s knowledge and skills control.
