Mastepak T.G., Poleva E.A. THE MOTIF OF WIND/STORM IN THE NOVEL DESPAIR BY V. NABOKOV. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 6 (203). P. 47-55

The year of 2019 is the anniversary of two writers of different eras – A. S. Pushkin (1799–1837) and V. V. Nabokov (1899–1977). This study did not initially include the goal of identifying the “bringing together “of two writers, but an analysis of the wind motive led to results that broadened the ideas about the creative dialogue between Nabokov and Pushkin already established in literature. The aim of the work is to analyse the wind / storm motive in V. Nabokov’s novel “Otchayaniye” (Despair) in relation to cultural tradition. Material and methods. Motive and intertextual analysis based on the work of B. Gasparov, I. Silantyev. For understanding of the functionality and archetypical semantics of the wind / storm motive, the studies of K. Nagina and E. Nikanorova are significant; among the research work on Nabokov, the baseline for this study is, firstly, the article by A. Dolinina, who described the principles of using V. Nabokov to use Pushkin’s intertext in the novel “Otchayaniye” (Despair). Results and discussion. When analyzing “Otchayaniye” (Despair), it was considered that the narrative motive is often implemented in conjunction with an anonymous motive, therefore the focus of research attention was not only the wind motive / storm motive, but also windcalm. It was revealed that the wind motive in the novel is polysemantic and “works” to reveal the main themes and problems in the novel, “involved” in the design of the author’s concept of the work. It is associated primarily with moral and ethical issues: the definition of boundaries and the essence of free will, crime and punishment. It was found that the motive functionally considered in the novel correlates with the archetypal image of the storm, which traditionally embodies above the personal will and trial, the condition of passage of which is the strength of the moral basis of the individual. For the immoral character, who is the central hero of the novel, Herman (a murderer who is not experiencing remorse and torment of conscience), the wind turned into a storm, carries the semantics of punishment (“frightening” wind, “murderous drafts”). The study revealed the use of Nabokov’s method of increasing gradation in the design of the wind motive, which accompanies Hermann’s doubts and moral throwing, turning into a storm at the moment of final despair. Stillness arises at the climax points of the plot (the murder of an imaginary double and Herman reading his own, which must justify, but expose his mediocrity, “story”). If Herman interprets windcalm as the indifference of being to human life, as the absence of God, then at the author’s level “silence of being” emphasizes Nabokov’s idea of free will: nature does not give signs and does not interfere with a person’s moral choice. The analysis of the wind motive made it possible to reveal, the Pushkin’s fairy tale “Skazka o Rybake i Rybke” / About the Fisherman and the Fish as a significant intertext of the novel; the final “Otchayaniye” (Despair) correlates with the outcome of the tale: the character who wished to become a “despot” not only of his own being, but also of the lives of others (to take the place of God), remained “by the broken washtub”. Conclusion. This study made it possible to expand the understanding of the intertextual connections of the novel by V. Nabokov, to clarify the author’s concept of crime and punishment.

Kozlov V.V. Basic Determinants of the Spiritual Crisis. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2002. Issue 3 (31). P. 75-83

The article discusses the causes and regularities of the personality spiritual crisis development. The problem is extremely important for modern psychology. The paper analyses the structure of a personality in which, from the point of view of the author, it is possible to single out three levels: the material «Ego», the social «Ego», and the spiritual «Ego». The author considers the spiritual «Ego» to be the most integrated part of a personality, which at the age of maturity regulates the entire activity of a personality on a global scale. The formation of this personal structure occurs in the process of overcoming spiritual crises that force the personality to rethink the contents of the meaning of life constantly and reconsider the answer to question «Why do I live?». The author examines the main trends in the spiritual «Ego» - the effusive, transformational and conservative ones, which in most cases define the direction of the development of a spiritual crisis. However, it is the level of vitality that is considered as the base of a personality's spiritual growth. It depends little on a personality and is more likely of a biological origin. In the second part of the article different factors, which can promote or prevent personal spiritual crises, are considered. The classification of these factors is linked by the author with the three main trends presented in the spiritual «Ego» of a personality and with the level of vitality.

In his novella “Back Before the War” (1971) Vil Lipatov follows the traditions of «kolkhozny novel» and soviet mass culture of 1930s–1950s when creating the image of a taiga village Ulym. Using archaic motifs and images including ones connected with an initiation ceremony such as a house in the forest, a substitution fiancé, an orphan, the prodigal son, the author builds the cyclic model of patriarchal world and combining the idyllic topos simultaneously with the idea of pagan paradise, myth of self-sufficiency of a patriarchal village and soviet mythologems. The myth, which is a fundamental principle of the story, makes the peaceful coexistence of all three layers possible. The main character of the novel – a carrier of the individual conciseness – goes through some kind of initiation, becomes familiar with the natural, eternal forms of objective reality and at the same time she goes out of the borders of the idyllic chronotope while leaving the exclusive world the main goal of which is birth of children.

Dreyfeld O.V. Applications capabilities of Social networks for teaching Russian as a Second language. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2024. Issue 3 (233). P. 84-92

The purpose of the article is to describe the language education capabilities of social networks in teaching Russian as a foreign language. The key aspects of the critical analysis of the non-specialized social networks potential in teaching a foreign language were: 1) features of communication in social networks from the point of view of foreign language education; 2) the functionality of social networks available for teaching Russian as a foreign language; 3) positive effects associated with the use of a social network in teaching a foreign language; 4) comparison of the capabilities of different social networks, image-boards and instant messengers in teaching Russian as a foreign language. Methods and research material: content analysis of Russian-language research on the language education use of social networks in teaching RFL, phenomenological and comparative analysis of social networks VK (VKontakte), Facebook*, image board Instagram* and Telegram messenger. The material for the study was samples of experience in using social networks in teaching Russian as a foreign language, obtained based on the random sampling method in the social networks VKontakte and Telegram. Research results. The foreign language education potential of social networks in learning a foreign language is associated with different types of speech activity (reading, writing, listening and specific speech production) implemented through Internet communication. By representing reality through text, audio, video and visual materials, social networks provide the opportunity for targeted teaching of a foreign language: their functionality allows you to create thematic communities that can become a virtual space for the formation of an artificial language environment. There, foreign communicants studying Russian as a foreign language can 1) create, publish and perceive text in verbal, photo, video, audio format on a personal page or in a thematic community; 2) leave comments under the publication, add subtitles or script text to the video; 3) express your assessment through symbols under the publication (use emoticons); 4) search for information; 5) send and receive voice or text messages, 6) use a chatbot or virtual assistant for communication, question and answer services; 7) conduct a survey/vote or participate in it; 8) use hashtags or keywords, monitor updated information on the hashtag; 9) fill out the calendar of events and important dates; 10) formulate “status” (from one word to a phrase about the current state of the author; 11) Create a conversation (polylogue) for specific participants and participate in it. The peculiarity of communication in social networks, therefore, lies in the variety of types of speech and cognitive activity of communicants. Learning in social networks follows the principles of micro-learning (short-learning). Using the discursive features of the platforms themselves, it mimics familiar content, the consumption of which takes modern users a significant amount of time every day and thus implements the foreign language education principles of entertainment and accessibility. It creates the horizontal connections in communication, combines synchronous and asynchronous nature and allows you to use linguistic and non-linguistic means to study Russian as a foreign language, thereby forming an artificial language environment necessary in conditions of lack of natural communication. * Social networks Facebook and Instagram are products of Meta Platforms Inc. – an organization whose activities are currently prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation. Research materials on these sites were collected until July 1, 2021.

The object of the research is an inside word form of metaphor character. Motivological level of language research is a favourable ground for analysis of national specific of language because the nature of motivated word itself is mainly connected with language conscience of speakers. Names of plants are directly connected with object and cognitive speakers’ activity and also with social and cultural originality of language community’s life and its ethnographic peculiarities. The idea of different ways of environment’s representation by means of two-sided semantics of lexical units in language consciousness is the thesis of the article.
