Shepetovskiy D.V. SYSTEM OF PERSONAGES IN NINA BERBEROVA’S THE ACCOMPANIST // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 2 (191). P. 196-203

The paper analyzes the system of personages in the first and the most widely known novella of Nina Berberova, as it reflects her idea on a multitude of ways of life building in emigration. The author holds, that the system of personages in the novella is based upon the principle of binary oppositions, namely, creative – uncreative, adapted – misfit, comprehensive – incomprehensive person. The attitude towards creative side determines the choice of the route of life on behalf of a personage. However, Symbolist concept of life as a work of art is reconsidered by Berberova in accordance with her idea of self-determination of Russian émigrés, and so adaptability to changing conditions of life is also held by Berberova in high esteem, in contrast to the common notion of beggar artists. The personages embody different strategies applied to survive their situation in emigration. Giving precedence to the ways of creative persons (Travina and Ber), Berberova gives her critical account of other survival strategies. Cooperation with the Communist regime is shown as materially advantageous, but amoral (Senya); keeping everything as it was in Old Russia is shown as a dead-end (Pavel Fyodorovich, guests of the Travin’s house in Paris). The path of Sonya the Accompanist, devoid of creativity and human understanding, lacking self-determination, full of hatred and envy, is shown as self-destructive.

Keywords: Russian émigré literature, short prose of Nina Berberova, system of personages

Kossarik M.A. GENERAL LINGUISTIC ISSUES IN B. DE ALDRETE’S TREATISE ON THE ORIGINS OF SPANISH (1616): FROM THE HISTORY OF LINGUISTIC THOUGHT // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2020. Issue 5 (211). P. 133-141

Introduction. The present paper introduces Russian historians of linguistics to a little-known treatise on the history of Spanish – “Del origen y principio de la lengua castellana o romance que oi se usa en España” (1606) by Bernardo de Aldrete. Aim and objectives. The aim of the present study is to analyse B. De Aldrete’s treatise and specify how certain notions of general linguistics, crucial for its present state of development, were being developed. Material and methods. The study is based on a print edition of Aldrete’s treatise (about 400-pages long). The methods employed are: critical analysis of the text as an example of Renaissance linguistic thought and sociocultural analysis of the historical context the treatise was written in. This XVII-century scientific text and its system of terms are interpreted with the help of modern terminology, as normally done by linguistic historiography scholars. Results and discussion. The analysis of Aldrete’s treatise as a specimen of Spanish linguistic thought is performed against the background of the earlier linguistic tradition and the sociocultural situation in the Golden-Age Spain. XVI–XVII-century Pyrenees linguistics – Spanish in particular – was developing in a very specific sociocultural milieu, which preconditioned its inter-paradigmatic nature and an extremely wide scope of objects and themes discussed. The paper mainly focuses on how Aldrete dealt with general linguistic issues in his treatise on the history of Spanish. The analysis shows that such issues include: ways of naming language; functions of language; diversity of forms of speech; correlations between language system and speech; historicity of language; language contacts; diatopic (territorial), diastratic (social) and diaphasic (functional) variation of language; distinguishing between dialects and languages; the domineering role of standard language. Conclusion. The author of the XVII-century historical-linguistic treatise under analysis does not limit himself to studying purely historical aspects of language. The work by Aldrete embraces a wide range of issues of general linguistics, which shows that as early as in the pre-Port-Royal period linguists were already discussing the concepts and principles that are crucial for modern linguistic science.

Kim O.V. THE MILITARY FACTOR OF MODERNIZATION OF PRE-PERTINE RUSSIA IN THE MODERN ANGLOPHONE HISTORIOGRAPHY // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2012. Issue 3 (118). P. 81-86

In anglophone historiography the modernization in prepetrine Muscovy is considered as the result of the military reforms and the external influences. The sources of such effects were located in the West as well as in the East. The “military revolution” has been recognized as an important aspect of the historical transformation of the state and society. It has identified the development of the fiscal-military state. Whereas the process of the new military technologies translation went out from Europe, the Ottoman Empire and the Golden Horde passed out the autocratic political model “of the Service State” and the concept of the fiscal policy. In the estimates of foreign authors pre-Petrine military reforms were effective enough, but they have increased social and cultural gap between Europe and Russia.

The article deals with the conditionality of style and genre of a dramatic work, depending on the audience. V. Sollogub is an author of the two plays on Caucasian topic. One of them – “Night at dukhan” (“dukhan” – Caucasian avern) is adressed to the Russian public and represents a kind of the comic sketch close to a vaudeville. The other – “The Night before Wedding or Georgia in Thousand Years” is adressed to the Tiflis's audience and is written in genre of comedy-utopia. The playwright came to utopia in connection with his views on the future development of Caucasus. He saw the mission of Russian Empire in cultural conquering of the region and in interpenetration of Russian and Caucasian cultures. This was something like ongoing of peacemaking attitude of the Caucasian governor M.S.Vorontsov who practised a very wide politicy of enlightment. The plotline of the play is based on events contemporary for the author, and the illusion emerges due to plexus of the recognizable and straightly visionary episodes. The comic story does not prevent the playwright from giving deep characteristics of the present and the future. Sollogub touches upon a subject of the Western civilization, the Age of Enlightenment, the problem of nationalities in future, the women status. The comedy is written in the refined language involving Russian-Georgian bilingualism.

Ivanov E.A., Zupnik B.M. AUXILIARY SUPERFIELDS IN N = 2 BORN-INFELD THEORY // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2014. Issue 12 (153). P. 103-108

Some time ago the authors proposed a new approach to self-dual electrodynamics and its superextensions, based on introducing auxiliary (super)fields which ensure linearization of the duality transformations. In the talk this universal method is applied for analysis of the self-duality properties of the N = 2 Born-Infeld (BI) action with the nonlinearly realized “hidden” N = 4 supersymmetry. Its self-duality is proved up to the 10th order in the superfield strengths. The conjecture about the general structure of the N = 2 BI action modified by the auxiliary chiral superfields is put forward.

Kolmogorova A.V., Varlamova O.N. PHONETIC AND PROSODIC FEATURES OF MOTHER’S SPEECH SPECIFIED BY THE SUTIATION OF AWAKING A CHILD // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 10 (187). P. 127-131

The following article studies phonetic and prosodic changes in mother’s speech. We consider that the situation of awaking a child preconditions these changes. We propose the role of a mother as socially relevant. Mother’s speech is an informational key to the system of a native language. Basing on Russian and the French language, we analyze qualitative and quantitative changes in consonants and vowels in lexical units of different parts of speech, as well as changes in tone and rate of mother’s utterances. We take into account such phonetic phenomena as longitude of a sound, palatalization of consonants, changes of values in tone. The changes of values in tone are illustrated by graphs. The material for analysis includes audio and video of recorded talk between mothers and their children (age from 0 to 10 months). The participants were divided into two groups: 1) Russian-speaking dyad “mother-child” (5 participants); 2) French-speaking dyad “mother-child” (4 participants). To undertake the analysis we applied computer software package for the scientific analysis of speech in phonetics called PRAAT. Resulting in setting minimal and maximal values in tone of analyzed utterances, correlation of longitude of a sound with tone and pragmatic meaning we conclude that these features of mother’s speech are universal for the situation of awaking a child.

The article devotes to analysis of the reasons of deep differences between two cultures: West and East. The author points out that the main reason of this fact is in accepting rather different board evidences by people as a root of their life. Western man accepts a possibility of his ratio, intellect as a such base, but Eastern man trust only to super consciousness essens as a base of hole Uni¬verse and his life, which can be achieved (precipitated) by meant of conjunction (in meditation) of individual «I» and Cosmic consciousness. Thus there is a difference in the attitude to life and death, manner of philosophy work, sys¬tems of proving, an in all culture in whole.

As the markers are rather old, the original meaning of them was connected with an earlier category – category of animateness/inanimateness, i.e. they were markers of animateness. Generation of the grammatical gender was connected with vowel markers.

Gefan G.D., Kuz’min O.V. COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EDUCATIONAL METHODS ON THE EXAMPLE OF TEACHING THE PROBABILITY THEORY AND MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 4 (181). P. 49-56

Teaching of mathematical disciplines in Russian universities has traditionally been based largely on the classic teaching methods (explanatory-illustrative and instructive-reproductive). Of course, the design of programmed instruction, as well as development of simulated and game methods of training is a very time consuming process. However, these training methods can dramatically improve the cognitive interest of students, their responsibility for the result, contribute to the development of skills both individual and collective work. (When using the programmed instruction the pace of learning is individual; in conducting the educational and business games we can develop the ability to act as a team). The effectiveness of innovative interactive methods (programmed instruction, “mathematical fights” and business games) requires not only logical basis, but also the statistical verification. The article studies the effect of the application of some interactive teaching technologies at the results of the students mastering the course of probability theory and mathematical statistics. The pedagogical experiment contained a comparison between one control group and two experimental groups in which these learning technologies were applied. The analysis was based on statistical hypothesis testing using t-test and Wilcoxon criterion. A marked increase in the knowledge quality associated with the use of innovative teaching methods and identified through the use of module-rating system, finds its confirmation in the results of the interim tests and final exam grade. The average exam score (on a 5-point scale) was as follows: 3.3 points for the control group and 3.45–3.6 points for the experimental groups.
