| 1465 | The phraseological meaning is a specific semantic category, characterized by an integral transference of meaning based fully or partially on the meanings of the components of the unit. This results in its complex structure which is of special scientific interest. The article focuses on the components of the phraseological meaning, states their specific features and correlation and offers the methodology of semantic analysis. It is a multistep process that considers all the constituents of the phraseological meaning: motivation, imagery component, inner form, denotative component, connotation and cultural component (studied by A. V. Kunin, V. N. Teliya, N. F. Alefirenko and others). The inner form reveals the way the phraseological meaning is formed and creates phraseological imagery. Motivation is a means of expressing the inner form. Metaphorical, metonymical or metaphtonymical transference of meaning forms the inner form of the unit. Phraseological semantics includes the grammatical meaning and the phraseological meaning proper. We single out several structural models of the latter, based on a number of combinations of the denotative macrocomponent (its identifying and characterizing parts) and stylistic, intensive, emotional and/or evaluative components of connotation. The cultural component can be a part of either denotation or connotation or both. The paper includes the results and analysis of testing aiming at identifying relevance to one or another knowledge level of a foreign language. The knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, understanding of foreign speech based on reading is checked with the help of placement test. The assessment of basic knowledge by means of input testing reveals the correspondence of knowledge, habits and skills of students to one or another level of knowledge of a foreign language. The «world-wide responsiveness» of Karamzin as a writer and an interpreter was formed already in the «Moscow Journal» (1791-1792), the edition of a new type taking into consideration the experience of European periodicals. To carry out the novelty Karamzin used the translations thoroughly picked up and correlating with the original pieces. Thanks to the ambivalent role of a writer and a translator Karamzin was able to create an author journal aimed at the maintaining sentimentalism. In the «Messenger of Europe» (1802–1803) by N. M. Karamzin the translations helped to form not only a literary part, but also a section of Politics. | 1491 | The article deals with the structure of a polycode text, which is a complex formation of semiotically heterogeneous components that are inextricably linked to each other. The peculiarities of their relationship make an urgent problem in modern linguistics due to the absence of a unified classification of sign systems represented in the text. In the articles published on the internet portal “THE ONION” verbal text is combined with iconic information blocks – photo and video materials, whose interaction leads to the formation of new meanings. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that the existing types of components correlation are thoroughly investigated and classified on the above stated material. As a result of the research three main types of correlation of iconic and verbal components are identified and their ratio is presented in the text of the article as a bar chart. Duplicating (split into partial repetition and complete repetition) and complimentary types of correlation are considered to be the most common that can be explained by the peculiarities of news texts: the iconic component usually repeats or backs up the verbal information block. The third type of their correlation demonstrates close integration of the verbal and iconic components whose relationship can be of two types – relations of correspondence and relations of opposition. The research proves that in the polycode news text the verbal component plays the leading role, while the iconic component serves as a visual aid.
