Nguyen T., Kritskaya N.V. SONG LYRICS IN ANIMATION FILMS AND FEATURES OF THEIR TRANSLATION // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2022. Issue 1 (219). P. 114-122

Introduction. Relevance of the research is determined by the interest of modern translation science in search of effective ways of songs rendition, as animation films are getting the significant role as participants of modern crosscultural communication. Aim and objectives. The present paper attempts to discuss main functional, linguistic and structural aspects of song lyrics and analyze methods of their translation, as well as study applicability of these methods to song rendition in animation films. Materials and methods. The research is based on theoretical materials on audiovisual- and song translation, the exemplary texts taken from animation film “Mulan” (Walt Disney, 1998). Results and discussion Belonging to belles-lettres functional style, songs share with poetic texts their lexicosemantic and syntactic features, as well as rythmic and structural organization, which adds to their esthetic value. The specificity of songs in animation films is determined by their dependence on the plot and characters, both the form and the semantics of lyrics being equally important for their full-size foreign understanding. Subtitling and dubbing are the two methods of audiovisual translation, which fit the requirements of song rendition, with the latter as more preferable. Analyzing methods of modern song rendition and their applicability to the translation of songs in animation films, while having in mind certain limitations of both song- and audiovisual translation, we found out that the optimal option probably would be text adaptation, allowing to preserve the semantics and the melody as the two inseparable sides of the song unity. Conclusion. Lexico-semantic, syntactic, stylistic and structural peculiarities of song texts determine the features of their translation. From the whole list of translation options, the gentler one would be adaptation of the text to the original melody.

Keywords: animation films, song lyrics, song lyrics translation, audiovisual translation, poetic text

Ferrer E.Z., Insera V. Photons and fermions in spacetime with a compactified spatial dimension // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2004. Issue 7 (44). P. 88-94

The effects of a nonsimpiy connected spacetime with the topology of S1 x R3 in the vacua of QED and gauged-NJL theories are investigated. It is shown that the polarization effects of twisted and untwisted fermions in QED are equivalent, once the corresponding stable vacuum solution of each fermion class is taken into account. The photon propagation in QED is found to be anisotropic and characterized by several massive photon modes and a superluminal transverse mode. At small compactification radius the masses of the massive modes increase as the inverse of the radius, while the massless photon mode has a superluminal velocity that increases logarithmically with that distance. At low energies the photon masses lead to an effective confinement of the gauge fields into a (2+i)-dimensional manifold transverse to the compactified direction. In the gauged-NJL model, it is shown that for both twisted and untwisted fermions, the smaller the compactification radius, the larger the critical four-fermion coupling needed to generate a fermion-antifermion chiral symmetry breaking condensate.

Taranova E.N., Bubyreva Z.A., Taranov A.O. PROBLEM OF SYNONYMY IN PROFESSIONAL TERMINOLOGY // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2016. Issue 2 (167). P. 55-60

The paper is devoted to the issue of synonymy in terminology. Authors reveal the meaning of the notion “terminological synonymy”. They turn attention to the generalization of theories related to principles of synonymy in terminology. It’s known that there are different points of view on the existence of term-synonyms. In the paper such items as “synonym”, “doublet”, “variant” are analyzed by different linguists. Through the example of landscape study peculiarities of usage of synonyms in the Russian and German languages are shown to nominate different fragments of the linguistic world-image. Polylexical relations inside terminological systems are becoming more and more popular nowadays, and landscape study proves this fact. It should be emphasized that earlier such relations were considered as unacceptable.

Koleva G.Y. OIL-SOVIET STATE POLICY // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2016. Issue 9 (174). P. 43-50

The relevance of studying the problem of the oil factor in the policy of the Soviet state is due to the exceptional value of oil strategy of the state during the Soviet period. The study of this phenomenon is presented by the fragmented historical periods, that does not allow to see the continuity of the state policy in relation to oil, the similarity was performed with the help of state tasks. The purpose of this study is to analyze the priorities of the state approaches to oil and its changing role in the implementation, the state solved problems. Among the objectives set by the author is identification of the main factors influencing the strategic approaches to oil. The author comes to the conclusion that the oil factor in the policy of the Soviet state held an especially significant place, the oil was mainly the export of energy resource and the means to achieve geopolitical goals. The main provisions of the state policy, formulated in terms of electrification with respect to oil, remained virtually unchanged during the entire Soviet period. The evidence of this is the prevalence of export of oil products before 1958, and crude oil since 1958. There was also noted the period of reducing the proportion of oilexport in the total exports of the USSR: the decline was seen in the period from 1929 to 1934, and continued until the end of the reign of I. V. Stalin. The highest value of oil exports in the state strategy was in the 1920s. and since the end of the 1950s. In the second half of the XX century oil was in the center of economic competition between the two political systems. Throughout the Soviet period, oil is an important tool for solving problems of strategic importance both within the country and outside it. Changes in approaches to the problems of oil were determined mostly by the foreign policy factors.

Yermolenkina L.I. DISCURSIVE PERSON IN COMMUNICATIVE SPACE OF MODERN RADIO // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 2 (179). P. 37-40

Every modern person is a part of the media communication in which a specific discursive ideology is formed. This type of ideology largely determines the worldview of contemporary members of discourse, and also forces prepared scenarios and behavioral patterns on the participants of communication. This ideological mindset has the influence on everyday life of members of discourse. The object of analysis of this research is discourse of radio. Studying the ways new discursive ideology is formed will allow us to reveal cognitive world models, which are reproduced in the discourse and to define the role of a discourse personality in creating the form and the content of the discourse of radio. The process of formation of new discursive ideology is reflected in the system if contemporary interactive genres. Discourse allows us to use a variety of factors while analyzing the ideology: mental, psychological, pragmatic, gender-based and others. Ideology is a result of the positioning of the subject in the discourse of radio and is revealed in the language organization of its existence, which requires a complex approach comprising all the aspects of the stated problem. Such methodology allows us to reveal the principles of discursive ideology formation and the models of speech behavior of the discourse personality; to determine the structural and functional peculiarities of new speech genres of the media-discourse and internal and external mechanisms of formation of the discursive worldview in the communicative space of the discourse of radio.

The paper discusses the issue of the development of the English speaking communicative competence at a technical university, which is thought to have become one of the most essential skills of today’s university staff. Due to this, many of the Russian universities are now reconsidering professional requirements to the staff, believing that good knowledge of English could contribute to faster integration of their universities into global scientific community. National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, Russia, has designed a number of professional training programmes for the English language acquisition tailored to the specific needs of the academics. The paper focuses on the course outline “English for Scientific and Academic Communicative Purposes” aimed to develop foreign language communicative competence for professional communication within academic society at the level B1/B2 (Independent User) of European communicative competences. During the course, which has been primarily created for the staff of a technical university, the major features of the academic style of communication, academic grammar and vocabulary as well as the structure of the presentation and the ways of presenting scientific contents are studied and practised. Consequently, upon completing the course, the university staff are able to share the results of their professional activity with their foreign colleagues. The learners are expected to obtain the skills of making and delivering a presentation on their professional profile, duties, and challenges, which appears to be one of the major outcomes of the programme.

Balastov A.V. THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF THE INFORMATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING ADULT TO PROFESSIONAL-ORIENTED FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMMUNICATION IN A NON-LINGUISTIC INSTITUTION // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2012. Issue 4 (119). P. 167-170

It should be noted that in practice of the Russian university' adult education and professional-oriented communication in English, there is some kind of underestimation of the capabilities of information technology training, including multimedia. A rare and ineffective use of multimedia in the Universities is also due to non-linguistic reality of modern higher education in Russia: the creation of computer databases in the universities is not accompanied by suffi ciently studying the problems of application of new teaching materials for educational purposes. In theory, teaching practice and university systems of the teacher training multimedia application is given insuffi cient attention. At the same time, the results of foreign and domestic studies are contradictory and don't always favor the use of computer technology in the learning process.

Mathematics is submultitude of Cultural World. Cultural World is subject-object variety of possessors of senses of material and spiritual activity of a man. The activity of sense-building itself and a man realizing it are elements of Cultural World and possessors of its culture and sense. Sense is a one-to-one correspondence between a multitudes of demands and possibilities which satisfy them. Mathematical vision of sense-obtaining process gives a chance to build the trajectory of sense as godograph of its radius-vector. Mathematical culture have the trajectory of sense reflecting sense of mathematical education and philosophy of mathematics.

Bodrova A.S. Traditional Costume of the Native Peoples in Siberia as Reflection of the Empirical Mentality // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2004. Issue 4 (41). P. 85-90

In this article we study traditional costume of the native peoples in Siberia on the basis of the analysis of some empirical element in the human mentality typical of traditional culture. The production of costumes is conditioned by the climate and some natural peculiarities of the area; it is also characterized by a rational approach to the choice of materials. In the process of our investigation we found out some similarity in the constructions of costumes. The costume represents an adaptive way of transformation of some existing forms of costume. This transformation is possible due to some natural cultural conditions as a result of cultural diffusion and the development of new cultural forms. The rational element s in the costume construction performs some practical functions and is conditioned by some naturals in the life of the ethnos.

Poleva E.A. MOTIVE COMPLEX “PEACE – SILENCE – WORD” IN THE NOVEL BY LENA ELTANG “STONE MAPLES” (“KAMENNYYE KLYONY”) // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 9 (206). P. 147-156

Introduction. The modernist esthetics of Lena Eltang’s prose, as well as the biographical factor (she is a fourthwave emigrant who now lives in Lithuania) explains the value for the author and characters of the novel’s word, the speech as a method of conservation and expression the inner world of a person in a non-native environment. The purpose of the work is to identify the semantics and functionality of the main point in the novel “Stone Maples”/”Kamennyye kloyny” (2008) by L. Eltang of the motive complex “peace – silence – word/speech”. Material and methods. The method of research is a motivational analysis based on the works of B. Gasparov, I Paperno, V. Silantyev, O. Rusanova. In understanding of the general cultural semantics of the motives of silence, peace and speech, we rely on the works of O. M. Freidenberg, M. Epstein, A. Genis. Results and discussion. The analysis performed to identify the central place of the silence motive in the selected motive complex. The motive of silence is multifunctional: it participates in the movement of the plot, draws up the image of the main character and characterizes the relationship between the characters, appears as the one of the narrative techniques (ignoring the addressee, silence in response), also accompanies the development of the theme of creativity. Silence is interpreted as a reorientation of the person from external to internal, from waste of words in oral speech to their accumulation for creating a text. Silence is existential: it is a condition for capturing the “call of being” and invitingly itself, helps another to pay attention to the subject of silence. The semantic difference between the motives of silence and peace is significant. The first is internally potentially resolved by speech, word-life, the second relates to death, loss of identification, ability to express oneself. Сonclusion. It is based on the poetics of neomythologies and uses the general cultural semantics of the motive complex “words – peace – silence: in an individual experience of the main character which repeats the stories of the heroes of ancient myths and fairy tales, living an archaic plot of silence – a word which is synonymous of the plot of death – resurrection (O. M. Freidenberg).

Polyakova N.V. OBJECTIVATION OF WAYS OF WORLDLY SPACE STRUCTURING IN THE SELKUP AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGES // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 3 (180). P. 47-50

Each ethnos has its own ideas of the world and the system of worldly space structuring that allows orienting in space. The idea of the three-part structure of the world including the Upper, Middle and Lower Worlds is common for many nations as well as the idea of existence of vertical and horizontal projections of the universe. In mythology the Upper World is connected with the highest gods. It is located over people. The Middle World is the place inhabited by people and animals. The Lower World is associated with the world of evil spirits and the dead. It is located under the ground or water. Ethnographic and linguistic material demonstrates coexistence of vertical and horizontal world projections in the Selkup worldview and presence of only the vertical world projection in the Russian one. The Middle World being according to the ancient beliefs the world for people and animals is the most significantly objectivized both in the Selkup and the Russian languages. The analysis of linguistic and ethnographic material allowed revealing essential differences in the Selkup and Russian ways of worldly space structuring. The circular type of space structuring is typical for the Russian ethnos as the representative of the farming culture. There is the house and householding buildings on the fenced territory in the center of the Russian worldly space, the next concentric circle includes the settlement, the second concentric circle consists of the fields and pastures having an important economic value, the third concentric circle includes forest grounds, the fourth is represented by the distant spaces. People feel the most familiar with the next and the second concentric circles and less familiar with the third and fourth concentric circles. The representatives of the Selkup ethnos orient in surrounding space relying on focal points by specification of their arrangement relative to each other. The focal points are a river, a forest and a house.
