Apaycheva L.A., Shuvalova L.E. METHODIC TECHNIQUES FOR SOLVING EQUATIONS CONTAINING THE UNKNOWN AT THE BASE AND INDEX // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2015. Issue 1 (154). P. 51-54

The article is devoted to the solutions to the equations containing the unknown at the base and index. A detailed analysis of the problem proved that there is no decisive answer as to what conditions need to be imposed on the equation function. The primary way of solving such equations is taking the logarithm of both members of the equation, in this case some roots are lost. It should be noted that equations of such type are studied at school and pupils are to master the skills of solution to such equations. The article suggests algorythm of solution of these equations, analyses certain examples. The conclusions are drawn that solving such equations can greatly contribute to the development of students’ logical thinking as well as their abilities, intuition and cognitive power.

The article shoes the results of the stating experiment on identification of shortcomings of a technique of carrying out laboratory studies in general physics, provides the technique of research and the analysis of processing of the obtained data, reveals the necessity of correction of a technique of carrying out a laboratory practical work for technical university. As a solution of this problem the use of method of immersion during the preparation and carrying out laboratory studies is offered. The offered approach will demand modification of methodical descriptions to laboratory works, by inclusion in them of logical structures with the allocated educational elements of the studied subject, questions for self-examination and tasks of various levels of complexity.

Miklukho Y.Y. THE CONCEPT OF ART IN W. STEWENS’S CREATIVE WORK // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 2 (179). P. 77-81

The article considers some questions of esthetics of Wallace Stevens, one of the leading American poetsmodernists of the XX century, whose work remains almost not studied by the Russian literary criticism. Russianspeaking reception of his work appears in some works of G. Kruzhkov. A. Genis today talks about the specifics of his poetry, the difficulties of translation, etc. Among other things, G. Kruzhkov is the author of a number of Russian translations of poems by Stevens. The identified reference points are there in the aesthetic program of the author, among which the particular importance is attached to understanding art and the determination of the place of the poet and poetry in the modern world. The origins of his creative method are based on the works of Russian researchers of the Steven’s poetry. This method synthesizes the searches of European poetry of the XIX–XX centuries. Conclusions are made about the complexity of the aesthetic concept of the American author, as well as about its value and relevance for contemporary art and science. The aim of this article is to clarify the question about the status of the Russian-speaking reception of the creative heritage of William Stevens, who played a very prominent role in the literary life of the United States in the first half of the twentieth century and to contribute a better understanding of the literary and cultural process which takes place in the United States of America, as well as deeper penetration into the specifics of Stevens’ work.

Petrochenko L.A. THE FUNCTIONAL-SEMANTIC FIELD OF DEATH AS A EUPHEMISTIC PHENOMENON // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 6 (183). P. 76-79

The article deals with the peculiarities of the use of euphemisms and dysphemisms belonging to the functionalsemantic field of death. Euphemisms became important bricks in the walls people have built to keep the dead from making them uncomfortable. The most fertile ground for euphemizing is one where open discussion of a topic is taboo. So it was with sex in the Victorian era, and so it became with death after World War II. Postwar advice books counseled parents to avoid talking about this subject with their children. Having done their best to avoid anything connected with the dying and dead, English-speaking communities replaced associated expressions considered too direct with soothing alternatives. The words ‘passed away’, or simply ‘passed’, and ‘gone’ are the most prevalent synonyms for ‘died’. Much has been written on the psychology of denying imminent death. Euphemisms clearly have an important role to play in this denial process. Growing interest in death and dying during recent decades, supported by several publications on the subject, suggests a certain willingness to face the topic squarely in print. This willingness, however, is not reflected in everyday discourse which can be proved by mass literature contexts. In addition to euphemisms there exist various dysphemisms and slang words. Like euphemisms, dysphemisms are motivated by fear and distaste, but also by hatred and contempt. Slang expressions and dysphemistic terms of insult or disrespect should be avoided in speech and teaching a language.

Obvintseva O.V., Pereskokova D.A. PRAGMATIC MARKERS OF ENGLISH GASTRONOMIC DISCOURSE (IN THE CONTEXT OF COOKING SHOW) // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 9 (206). P. 47-53

Introduction. The object of this research is the pragmatic functions of such discourse elements as pragmatic markers that are used in English gastronomic discourse, namely, in a TV and Internet cooking show. Material and methods. The material for this research is the cooking show videos of popular British chef Jamie Oliver, published on his official YouTube channel in 2018–2019. The methods of the research are discourse analysis, analysis of pragmatic markers and the method of linguistic description. Results and discussion. The introduction observes the concepts of “discourse” and “gastronomic discourse”, the features of the gastronomic discourse, its genre diversity, pragmatic potential of the TV and Internet cooking show. Various studies of linguists on the correlation of the terms “pragmatic marker” and “discourse marker” are reviewed. As the methodological basis of the research we chose Fraser’s classification of pragmatic markers. The classification of pragmatic markers revealed from the videos, its quantitative and qualitative analysis resulted in the establishment of pragmatic functions that different types of pragmatic markers perform in the discourse of the cooking show. Conclusion. It was concluded that: 1) the gastronomic discourse cooking show genre influences the formation of the gastronomic preferences of the audience; 2) pragmatic markers are necessary to indicate the speaker’s attitude to the utterance, as well as to facilitate the process of pragmatic conclusions; 3) due to pragmatic markers, the arsenal of language means involved in creating the required pragmatic effect of the cooking show is increased; 4) pragmatic markers of the discourse of the cooking show help keep the viewer’s attention and create the illusion of direct communication with the audience.

Kobelev V.A. Morphology and Paradigm of Old Germanic t-stems as a Reflection of the Active Structure of the Early Indo-European Language // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2006. Issue 4 (55). P. 45-50

The Indo-European languages at the early period of their development were characterized by the structure and categories which were quite different from what they are having nowadays. The active structure, the predecessor of the nominative one, determined the morphological, syntactical and semantic aspects of the language. Binary opposition of the active and inactive cases developed into a new opposition which at the moment of the formation of the nominative structure consisted of the subject case (genitive) and the object case (accusative and nominative). Old Germanic t-stems and their Indo-European parallels reflect some features which were peculiar for the active stage in the history of the Indo-European languages.

Experimental researches of stability to asphyxia at preimaginal stages of malarial mosquito Anopheles atroparvus are presented. In experiments of larvae and pupae of mosquitoes were in vessels with water without access to atmospheric air. The stability depends on concentration of the dissolved oxygen in water in different temperature conditions. At alternative concentration of oxygen in water two opposite tendencies of speed of destruction of preimaginal stages of development are fixed. At concentration of oxygen of 0 mg/l in three set modes of temperatures (15 °С; 23 °С; 30 °С) stability of individuals to an asphyxia from I age to pupae is increased. In the water sated with oxygen at initial concentration of oxygen of 7–8 mg/l, on the contrary – larvae of younger age differed the raised viability in comparison with individuals of advanced ages.

Nikolaeva N.A. EUROPE AND THE CAUCASUS: CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL PARALLELS // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2011. Issue 11 (113). P. 83-86

In author’s opinion on the ancient history of the Northwestern and central Northern Caucasus was closely linked with Indo-European migrations from Central Europe in the second half of the 3rd – beginning of the 2nd centuries B.C. The first migrants to this region consisted of the mixed groups of Indo-Europeans and non-Indo-Europeans that can be corresponded to the Tocharians (Afanasievo culture) and formed pre-Maikop cultural horizon with the horse-head scepters. The second stream of the European population that reached the Caucasus included the “Ancient Europeans” (AE – ancestors of the Slavs, the Germans, the Balts, the Celts, the Italics), and the Anatolians as well. The dolmens under the barrows in the Northwestern Caucasus were left by them. The archaeological equivalents of AE groups settled in the central part of the Northern Caucasus are the kurgan burials of the Kuban-Terek culture that dated from 3rd -2nd centuries BC. Thus the history of the Ancient Caucasus in 3rd century B.C can be regarded as a part of the IndoEuropean history of Europe.

The topicality of this research is determined by anthropocentrism of modern humanities knowledge, compliance with the new cognitive-discursive paradigm, insufficient knowledge on poetic worldview of O. E. Mandelstam in the course of his creativity. Conceptual analysis makes it possible to make out subtle details in the author’s works that have not been studied before. Also, the analysis allows us to describe peculiarities of the poet’s perception of the world in this or that period of his work; to reveal features and means of representation of the key concepts in his poetic worldview. The aim of the article is to examine one of the key concepts of the works of O. E. Mandelstam – the concept “music”. Based upon M. L. Gasparov’s periodization of the poet’s creative work, the poetic texts of the early period of the author’s creative work (collection “The Stone” (1913)) are analysed. The choice of this concept is determined by its significance and a major role in the poet’s life. Results. As a result of the conducted research it was revealed that verbalization of the concept of “music” in Mandelstam’s early creative work has an individual author’s character. This statement has been proved thanks to the following procedures: – comparison of the usual meaning of the lexeme “music” that is shown in dictionaries (definition and associative ones) with that of the author. As a result, it has been revealed that there is a broadening of the basic, usual meaning in the author’s worldview by means of building-up of new senses (music not only has the sound incarnation; the absence of sound or silence is also a kind of music that can only be heard by a person with a special mindset); – highlighting several directions of associating (music – silence – sleep; music – the fundamental principle; music – hope for salvation) and their detailed analysis based on the most typical poems of the early period Mandelstam’s creative work and included in the poet’s first collection of works “The Stone”. – the analysis of the lexical structure of the author’s poetic texts in which the concept is reflected (highlighting of the main means of representation of the concept “music” and the text paradigms that are part of the association area of the analysed unit of the author’s sphere of concepts). Conclusion. The conducted research is significant in terms of concretization of the author’s individual style and his poetic worldview.

Bolotnov A.V. TYPE OF ARGUMENTATION AS A REFLECTION OF PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL AND MEDIA LANGUAGE PERSONALITY’S IDIOSTYLE // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 4 (201). P. 21-30

Introduction. Well-reasoned discourse is still one of the most widespread in up-to-date media sphere. It is conditional on peculiarities of modern social and historical age context and necessity to prove different viewpoints on current events. That is why study of types and means of argumentation is one of the topical task in different spheres of knowledge. The aim of the article is the detection of idiostyle peculiarities of media discourse of a public language personality abreast of argumentation’s types in the sphere of different informational reasons that are used by this person. Methods of research are based on discursive, semantic and stylistic analysis usage supported by regulative theory as one of the directions of the communicative stylistics of the text. Results and discussion. Dependence of types of argumentation that were used by public media persons on objective factors (informational reason, theme, speech genre) and subjective (goal-setting, communicative and cognitive, cultural and speech author’s peculiarities) is determined. Common and individual regulative means, structures and ways, which are typical for argued discourse and for analyzed individual discursive practices, are revealed in the article. The typical regulative structures and means of regulation are the following: usage of opponent’s quotations with further denial; reference to opponent and appeal to him that is attended by direct or indirect characteristic; reference to facts and quantitative data, usage of comparison of similar signs for proof, intensification of expression and polemic excitement at level of language means. Individual peculiarities of argumentation are the following: difference of author’s intentions, scale of informational reasons for counter-argumentation; choice of argumentation type subject to personality’s idiostle including his cultural and speech, cognitive and communicative styles, availability of author’s regulative means of logical and/or rhetorical argumentation in media discourse. Conclusion. The introduced approach to the study of argumentative discourse from the point of view of the idiostyle manifestation of a public language personality, revealed the difference between argumentation types according to the aim, means and effect of influence, which is caused not only by objective factors, but author’s individual peculiarities and information field of media text authors. These findings are of interest for media linguistics, theory of speech influence, speech conflict study, communicative stylistics of text.

The ways of expressing comparison in the works of Yuri Polyakov are considered. The authors define the morphological and syntactic features of similes and their functions in an artistic text. Similes, accomplished with the help of conjunctions as, like, as if, as well as the other means of connection are allocated. Among them are the special forms of nouns (genitive and instrumental case), other parts of speech (prepositions, adjectives, participles, adverbs). The most frequent in the works of Y. Polyakov are comparative constructions with such lexical means as a preposition as, an adverb like, an adjective similar to, a participle resembling, having likeness. The author’s favorite form of expression of comparison, as our observations show, is predicative units, representing different types of subordinate compound sentences. In the novel of Y. Polyakov, there are constructions with a comparison in the predicative center with a predicative-noun, which is the rarest in fictional texts. A specific way of expressing the phenomenon under consideration in the work of Y. Polyakov is a description of situations based on comparison. In content the vast majority of Yuri Polyakov’s comparisons have a distinct individual character, they are unusual, original and thus picturesquely presented an individual author’s picture of the writer’s mindset, involve the reader in the world of the artist of the word.

The article concentrates on the research of the processes of metaphorical term formation in Chinese on the basis of the terminology system of the oil and gas industry. There is the opposition method of spheres-sources of metaphorical modeling when analysing the processes of metaphorical term formation, method of frame structure analysis, method of continuous sampling, quantitative analysis and also method of linguocognitive modeling. Thus, metaphorical terms of the oil and gas industry are revealed (based on using of methods of semantic analysis and linguocognitive modeling), that allow us examine deeper the investigated approach. The specificity of terminology system modeling represents in the metaphorical model formation. The article reveals the metaphorical model formations which constitute the system, metaphorical model formations which consist of the certain metaphorical terms. Moreover, the article represent the basis of models conformity and symmetry of metaphors. The aim of the article is determination of metaphorical term formation in Chinese on the basis of the terminology system of the oil and gas industry basis. The article set out the results: 1. Confirmation of content the metaphorical fragment in Chinese terms; 2. Prevailing type of metaphorization is Artifact – Equipment; 3. The article deals with the aspects of language training of foreign students in the context of obtaining professional education in Russia. It analyzes the reasons for the difficulties of foreign students studying in the Russian language, describes the complexity in understanding of professionally oriented courses (including lectures). To solve these problems on the basis of the principles of comparative linguistics and cultural coincidences / discrepancies it is proposed to use the comparative method as the most effective inclusion of active methods of teaching students with different levels of knowledge of the Russian language, which will contribute to the formation of adequate language competence for professional education in Russia. The solution to this problem can act as a specially organized language training, focused on targeted improvement of language education of foreign students to the level of their Russian-speaking fellow students, actively developed in modern methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language. How productive and effective it showed itself developed more didactic job on the comparison and analysis of pronouns in the Russian language with the lexical units of the same functionality in native Chinese language. Proposes the variants of using the comparative method in combination with the project types of educational activities in the study of Russian as a foreign language in the the audience of Chinese students, for example pronouns that allows you to expand including practical didactic support of the course of Russian as a foreign language.
