| 413 | Key peculiarities of literal prose translations of I. A. Krylov’s fables by well-known English slavist and interpreter W. R. S. Ralston are discussed in the article. The book Krilof and his Fables, first issued in 1869, enjoyed a great success and added a considerable contribution to propaganda of Russian culture in England. Lexical, syntactical, and stylistic features of the English texts, as well as difficult for translation cases of rendering of realities and proper names are studied. An attempt to explain the author’s choice of literal (exact) translation against the background of free Russian-English interpretations of the time is provided from the historical point of view. The article shows, that literal prose translation of Russian verse, however condemned as imperfect by modern translatology, was a successful and necessary step in its time, aimed at introducing a famous Russian writer to English readers. Ralston’s attempt was even more significant considering the traditional attitude of British authors to regard the fable as literary genre not just prone to, but also welcoming free interpretational transformations. Objectively lacking idiom, imagery and humour of the original, prose versions of Ralston, nevertheless, retrieved at least the true idea of the original fables contents and provided the readers with reliable image of Russian life and folklore. | 421 | The article presents a historical review of conceptual works on Cognitive Translation Theory worked out by Russian scientists. It differs from western tradition and has its own specific way of development. The first prerequisites for the formation of a cognitive paradigm in Russian translation studies were observed in 1970–1980, and by the beginning of the 2000s. the cognitive theory of translation is formed with its own purpose, objectives, and subjects. The main trends of cognitive translation study in Russia are identified through the critical analysis. Firstly, some Russian scientists still prefer using the text-centric approach to compare a source text with a target text by methods of cognitive linguistics (concept, frame, scenario etc.). Secondly, others use a translation act as a study subject in the field of translation process. Meanwhile, western scientists are more focused on studying a translation event, which is only future-oriented in Russia. Thirdly, available Russian studies demonstrate polarized logic of formalized and arbitrary approaches to the translation process. The first is aimed at developing patterns in translation activity; the second declares the impossibility of bringing the translator’s cognitive structures into the system. Fourthly, there are 3 specific interactions between the subjects of translation activity (translator as a cognition subject, translator vs author, translator vs reader). The results of translation cognitive scholars are of high theoretical significance and are actively used in the development of artificial intelligence, improving automated translation, understanding the phenomenon of linguistic creativity and introducing innovative approaches into methodology of teaching translation. | 424 | The article is dedicated to the concept of the myth about the poet in the work of Marina Tsvetaeva from the point of view of the organization of space in the verse text, primarily the sky space, because it plays an essential role in creating the myth about the poet, therefore, most important aspects are the image of the poet in verse cycles, its existence in space and the influence of the organization of space on the semantics of the myth about the poet. In the course of the research, the author applies not only to the declared cycles, but also to other poems, letters and essays by Marina Tsvetaeva, important for recreating the necessary context. The study leads to the conclusion that the semantics of the myth about the poet is inextricably linked with the space of the sky or the space near the sky. The basic principle of its creation is designated as metonymic, when the projection of a certain image on the poet sets the coordinates of a certain space. All the images participating in its creation can be divided into several groups: ornithological (images of birds), astronomical (images of the moon, sun, stars, cosmos and planets), mythological (images associated with specific mythologies) and religious (images associated with Christianity). Accordingly, we can talk about the different skies in which the poet is: the space of flight, the astronomical sky, the mythological sky and the religious sky. The semantics of the myth about the poet and the space in which Tsvetaeva puts him are in continuous interaction, moreover, the space of one or another cycle largely reflects the features of the poet’s work to which it is dedicated, and Tsvetaeva’s attitude to the poet. | 428 | A comparative analysis of the following plays: Vampilov’s Last summer in Chulimsk and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliette is conducted. The relevance of the paper is defined by revealing of contextual connections of works of the domestic playwright with the world literature. This direction is intensively developing in modern literary criticism; on the one hand, it defines continuity of the creative search, on the other hand, it defines the individual creative manner of the writer and his or her creative tasks. The analysis of the transformation of a Shakespearean plot shows the possibilities of polysemantic interpretation of the play of the modern playwright. The author of the article considers mechanisms of change of the subject scheme about a young couple in love, functions of the characters, typology of images of the characters. Unlike the writers underlining the presence of “another’s plot”, Vampilov creates extremely realistic works. Nevertheless, the system of subject motives (confession of love, compelled parting, an intercepted note, undesirable matchmaking, duel of contenders etc.) allows us to reconstruct an initial Shakespearean plot in Vampilov’s play, to reveal literary implied sense. An art strategy of the writer is the refusal of the direct following to the logic of the known plot, the use of recognised plot situations, details, remarks as initial for inversion development of the action and opposite motivation of heroes’ behaviour. It allows us to prove the internal creative reasons of occurrence of the second (final) edition of the play – the play with the new name and change of the tragic ending. Both forms are significant and necessary for theoreticians and practitioners of the educational process. In this article methodical comment is examined as a means of development and evaluation of the professional competence of the teacher of a foreign language. The most appropriate base (informative material) for methodical comments in the course of teachers’ training is proposed (methodical statements, quotes from scientific and educational literature, a description of the methods, techniques, methods, forms of teaching, educational activity results). Examples of tasks from foreign textbooks, which can be considered analogous to methodological commentary and author’s examples of methodological comments are provided. | 435 | Based on the letters and memoirs of N. V. Shelgunov, V. O. Kovalevsky, N. G. Chernyshevsky and modern critical works, the phenomenon of emergence of marriage of convenience in Russia is considered. Untypical family models with a new attitude towards women are being investigated. The gender approach reveals a gradual change in the public consciousness of the role of women in the family and society. The article analyzes historical preconditions for the emergence of such a cultural phenomenon as marriage of convenience. The real implementation of the theory of “reasonable egoism”, proclaimed by N. G. Chernyshevsky in the novel “What Is to Be Done?”, is being studied. On the examples of family life of M. A. Obrucheva – P. I. Bokov, L. P. Mikhaelis – N. V. Shelgunov, S. V. Kovalevskaya – V. O. Kovalevsky and others, the fate of the participants of the love experiment can be traced. In the opinion of N. G. Chernyshevsky and his followers, a woman in marriage should not only obtain equal with a man rights, but also freedom. She can control her feelings. At the same time, men are liberators, by means of marriage helping a woman to avoid domestic despotism or giving an opportunity to get an education. In Russia the model of behavior of a noble man was conditioned by his desire to take responsibility for a woman, deprived of the civil rights by the society. N. G. Chernyshevsky showed what a decent person in Russia should do, without going beyond the framework of “reasonable egoism”. That is, in the conditions of social injustice, a man had to make up and give a woman what she did not receive from the society. The model of the noble altruistic behavior of a man firmly entered the consciousness and was developed by the part of the youth who shared the ideas of radicalism. Keywords: N. G. | 440 | Introduction. Terminology of IT-sphere is one of the most dynamically developing term systems. It is mainly explained by rapid technological progress in this sphere that encourages new nominations and clarification of the already existing terms. It is noteworthy that traditional one-component terms fail to meet the demands of the nomination process, as they are not able to reflect the complexity of new technical phenomena. As a result, multicomponent terms being capable of clear nominations start to numerously appear in computer terminology. At the same time, the structure and complicated meaning of multicomponent terms raise certain problems with their translation to other languages concerning the use of a variety of transformations. The aim of the research is to reveal the ways of translation of multicomponent terms belonging to IT-sphere from English into Russian taking into consideration their structural and semantic characteristics. Material and methods. The material of the research includes 500 English multicomponent terms of IT-sphere and 500 their Russian equivalents taken from the computer terms dictionary by I. V. Baratov through the method of continuous sampling. The study also uses the method of structural-semantic and translational analysis. Results and discussion. Multi-component terms in the field of information technology can be divided into three groups depending on the number of components, determined by the number of elements expressed by meaningful parts of speech: three-, four- and five-component terms. Three-component terms are the most numerous group, which is due to the desire of any language to save, only two five-component terms were found, so it is not possible to talk about the patterns of their translation. While studying the ways of translation of 3-component terms it was noted that the translator always tends to preserve the structure and meaning of the original term using calquing of the whole multicomponent term or some of its elements (44 % of cases). At the same time due to the typological differences between the English and Russian languages the translator has to resort to grammar transformations in the Russian language such as changing the order of the components, using cases and prepositions, changing parts of speech. As for the lexical transformations apart from calquing the translator uses lexical addition in case of necessary clarification of term components or description when the phenomenon denoted by the term does not exist in the Russian language. In 13 % of cases the translator resorts to equivalent when the Russian language has a shorter but capacious term expressing the same meaning as the multicomponent English term. In translation of 3-component terms in at least 13 % of cases the translator manages to preserve the structure of the original English term changing only the parts of speech of some components in case of 4-component and 5-component terms inversion or changing of the general order of the components turns out to be the key transformation. Among lexical transformations calquing of certain components, lexical addition, equivalent translation and description are used. Conclusion. The analysis of the ways of translation of multicomponent terms of IT-sphere from English into Russian revealed the dependence of grammar transformations on the typological characteristics of the languages. For example, English collocations are marked by regressive structure and post-position of the main word with an adjointment as the typical type of syntactic connection, while in the Russian language the collocations are built according to progressive structure with the preposition of the main word and government as a syntactic connection. As a result, the transformations while translating multicomponent terms from English into Russian manly include a change in the order of components, the use of cases and prepositions, and a change in parts of speech. Even in a small number of 3-component terms, it is possible to preserve the original structure of the term by replacing the parts of speech of the dependent word (a noun with an adjective) to form a collocation with an agreement as a type of syntactic connection. As for lexical transformations, among them the most commonly used are calque of one or all components of a phrase, clarification, transliteration (mainly one or two components), lexical addition and description as a lexico-grammatical transformation. It is necessary to note that due to the complexity of the structure and meaning of the multicomponent terms their adequate translation is only possible using a set of ways and methods of translation. | 446 | Introduction. Text interpretation problem is one of the most topical in up-to-date philology generally and in stylistics of text in particular. In this way the research of readers’ interpretative activity on the basis of experiments is of special interest, because it allows to judge steps of notional text explication in the addressee’s consciousness. The purpose of the article is to identify some patterns that are important for the interpretation activity of the collective addressee (reader) based on the methods of communicative stylistics of the text and its notional explication theory, developed in the context of this trend. Material and methods. Under the methodological base of communicative stylistics of text context and semanticstylistic analysis, a method of associative field of a key word’s modelling and experimental methodology are used in the article. It includes spare associative experiment as well as receptive experiment and modified methods of scaling by Ch. Osgud for detecting power of influence on collective addressee. Results and discussion. The research is done on the basis of experimental data on the reader’s perception of a verse “Light rain is tender, thin and delicate…” by O. E. Mandel’shtam with the use of the semantic explication theory, which is developed in the communicative stylistics of text, that realizes communicative and activity approach to the text. The theory of semantic explication of a text includes its lexical structure research, detecting of text notional paradigms of different types, their correlation, regulative means and structures analysis, textual associative field of a key word analysis versus associative field of this word, which is revealed during a spare associative experiment. Dependence of semantic explication of poetic text on its lexical structure of deductive type and author’s regulative means and structures, atributives as regulative text dominants and contrast as the main regulative method is determined in the article. Connection of interpretative readers activity (informants) with linguistic and extralinguistic aspects of pragmatic text level and its sublevels (figurative, emotional, ideal) is revealed on the basis of experimental methods. Experimental data verified the connection of the pragmatic level of the text with its informative and notional level. The factors that influence the relevant reading activities are identified.
