Bolotnov A.V. SOME REGULARITIES OF INFORMATIONAL WAVES FORMING IN UP-TO-DATE MEDIA DISCOURSE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 11 (188). P. 46-52

The article deals with detection and description of linguistic and extra linguistic regularities of informational waves forming in media communication. An informational wave is interpreted as a connected with informational echo stream of media texts-reactions to one informational reason with detection of peak and recession of social interest and media citations. Establishes the connection of media waves with different types of media texts: primary, secondary and tertiary (texts of the third turn, which are an echo of primary and secondary, are dedicated to topical informational reasons). Reveals linguistic and extra linguistic factors, influencing the appearance and existence of different types of informational waves. As the linguistic factors of the emergence and development of informational waves were examined the following: 1) repeated key words and phrases, and means of their actualization (attributes and predicates, which attend the key words); 2) means of argumentation (logical, rhetorical, stylistic), which were used by the authors of primary media texts according to typical social value; 3) common citations including precedent phenomena, which connect different media texts in the network of informational waves. Extra linguistic factors, that are of great importance for informational waves formation and development, are typical of the following: topical informational reasons for society (events and personalities); realizing in media discourse strategies of provocation, conflict, advertising, connected with psychology of events perception of mass addressee and pragmatics of media communication; informational field of newsmaker and informational field of platform where communication is realized. As an empirical material were analysed primary, secondary and tertiary media texts, forming dynamics of informational waves, which is stimulated by program “Special opinion” with participation of Maxim Shevchenko as a guest and an anchorman Sergey Buntman on radio “Echo of Moscow” on 6-th of July 2017. The results are of interest for theory of speech influence, media linguistics, communicative stylistics of text.

Shchitova O.G., Shchitov A.G., Hua K. COGNITIVE MODELING OF COLOR NAMING IN RUSSIAN AND CHINESE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 6 (195). P. 81-87

The article is devoted to revealing poorly studied cognitive mechanisms of color naming in Russian and Chinese on the basis of lexicographic and Internet sources, and the national corpus of the Russian and Chinese languages. Derivative secondary colorants denoting tertiary chromatic colors have been analyzed. Cognitive color naming models related to the cognitive macro model “color plant” have been identified. This allows us to conclude that the color picture of the world reflects diverse experience of man’s knowledge of the plant world in all its forms. Ways of replenishing the color naming system of this type have been defined. The color naming systems in the Russian and Chinese languages with respect to the type of cognitive modeling being analyzed are basically the same. The authors have found out universal cognitive color naming models of Russian and Chinese, among which the most productive ones are the models “color flower”, “color fruit of the plant”, which indicates the similarity of thought processes realizing color naming. National features of the color picture of the world are manifested in the presence of specific nominations of color shades in both languages. These nominations reflect cultural characteristics of Russian and Chinese native speakers as well as peculiarities of the color semantics of interlingual equivalents in the languages. Quantitative and qualitative differences of Russian and Chinese derived color lexical units confirm the idea that the color naming is the reflection of the natural and cultural space of the ethnos.

Chernyak V.D., Parysheva E.V. RYNOK (MARKET) AND BAZAR (BAZAAR): THE DYNAMICS OF LEXICON FRAGMENT. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2020. Issue 3 (209). P. 104-113

Introduction. The words rynok (market) and bazar (bazaar) have become a kind of indicators of social, economic and political changes, which had a great impact on language personality of the Russian native speaker. The aim of the article is to research into the dynamics of thesaurus fragment, which is verbalized with words rynok (market) and bazar (bazaar). The analysis is based on lexicographical and corpus data. Methods and material. The main material used for analysis is: data taken from explanatory dictionaries published from XVIII to XXI century, associative fields mined from associative dictionaries, and text fragments extracted with the help of The Russian National Corpus. These materials make juxtaposition analysis of lexical semantics dynamic processes possible. Results and discussion. Juxtaposition of explanatory dictionaries materials as well as “Russian Associative Dictionary” shows that ‘the mirror of associative dictionary’ is indispensable for studying particular fragments of reality. Interconnection between associative fields and systemic lexical semantics fields is obvious. The study directed from system to text shows the gradual changes in semantics structure of two synonyms. The research traces the establishment of their axiological specialization. The word rynok (market) develops a new meaning over time – “sphere of commodity exchange”, which is further reflected in the expansion of its lexical compatibility. Since the semantic component “noise” actualizes, the figurative meaning of word bazar (bazaar) emerges – “loud conversation”. Bazar (bazaar) in the native speaker’s mind is a space where one can be easily deceived. Rynok (market) on the value scale of everyday consciousness is also associated with theft, high cost and chaos, which is largely due to the influence of socio-economic factors on the language consciousness. Semantic differences between two synonyms and contamination of different meanings become the basis for creating language game. Conclusion. The meaning of words rynok (market) and bazar (bazaar) verbalize the crucial for person’s life fragment of reality. Throughout the long history of functioning, their semantics underwent significant transformation that can be revealed at various levels: structure of the meanings fixed by lexicography, associative and verbal level of language personality. The observations show that in the semantics structure of word rynok (market) the new meaning (‘system of exchange relations’) tends to prevail over the traditional one (‘place for trade’). Lexical unit bazar (bazaar) contains connotations in all meanings.

Marenina E.P., Zhang T. PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS DENOTING AGE IN THE CHINESE LANGUAGE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 6 (195). P. 88-91

The paper is devoted to the study of the phraseological units which denote age in the Chinese language. The analysis of such phraseological units is coherent with the main principle of the language athropocentricty when a human being is made a cornerstone of modern linguistic studies and a starting point in analysing the language phenomena. There are a lot of fixed phrases in the Chinese language which are connected with the semantic sphere of age. But nevertheless the analysis of the phraseological units according to different age groups hasn’t been carried out yet. In the present article the author analyses phraseological units which name childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. The conclusion is made that there are some characteristics which are peculiar to the Chinese language and Chinese linguo-culture. These peculiarities are determined by the belonging of this national and cultural community to the eastern type of culture. And these distinctive features are expressed in the existence of a large spectrum of phraseological units which denote the age of a person through the whole life span. These phraseological units add expressivenss, figurativeness, profoundness, flexibility to the Chinese language. They express folk wisdom which has been received during the long history of China.

Khatyamova M.A. “THE SMALL TEMPLE OF THE SPIRIT”: THE ONTOLOGY OF SPACE AND THINGS IN M. A. OSORGIN’S PROSE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 1 (198). P. 97-104

Introduction. The article investigates the small prose of the representative of the Russian emigration of the first wave of M. A. Osorgin in the aspect of function and semantics of the second half of the 1920s. Materials and research methods. The material of the study is the stories of M.A. Osorgin of the second half of the 1920s - “Pensnes”, “Mother’s Portrait”, “Father’s Diary”, “Things of Man”. The work uses structural semiotic, functional-typological, hermeneutic approaches to the analysis of literary text. Results and discussion. M. Osorgin possessed a strong mindset, a talent for spatial vision and memory, which led to his passion for collecting and special power over him of the things related to the lost past, with dear people and key events of emigrant existence. A great place in the life of the writer was occupied by collecting books (organization and work to save rare books in the “Bookstore of Writers”, which he gave a lot of effort in 1918-22, the creation of personal libraries, despite the numerous travels and two emigrations); Osorgin’s other affection was the sweetheart’s personal belongings. Conclusion. It is argued that the aesthetic novelty and artistic depth in the non-anthropocentric world of the author is achieved through various options of “translation” of empirical things in their artistic correspondence, which allows us to talk about the philosophy and poetics of things in the writer’s small prose. It is proved that in the stories “Mother’s Portrait”, “Father’s Diary”, “Clock”, “Pince-nez” “belonings of a man” are endowed with a status equal to a person, their existence is ontologized (along with nature, the animal world and the human): objects have a unique character, they live their lives, but they are also an integral part of human destiny, “inhabit” significant spaces of human existence, become the starting point of the plot understanding the fate of a loved one and the life of the author-narrator. Traced the changing semantics of things, which from a sign of a lost homeland and childhood (memory) turns into the occasion to reflect on their own destiny and character (self-knowledge of the author), and also allows you to unravel the mysteries of individual existence and the universal ontological connection of the living and non-living existence (“death” thing after the death of the owner and turning into a thing of the past).

Koshkarova N.N., Istomina E.M. Linguistic ways of expressing emotions (to the issue of the generalized language emotivity model"). Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2023. Issue 3 (227). P. 7-14

An anthropological approach in the language study caused the appearance and vigorous development of a new branch in linguistics called emotiology, that studies the relationships between emotions and the language. In the paper, language units of different levels for expressing emotions are observed as they are crucial for classification of different approaches to the analysis of the stated object. Practical significance of the present study is connected with the possibility to use the presented scheme of analysis on the material of different languages and types of discourse. Aim and objectives are to perform a theoretical review of scientific theories concerning the ways of representing emotions on different language levels. Moreover, an attempt of discovering hierarchy between emotive units of different levels similar to the one of language units is made. The hierarchy supposes that each succeeding level is based on a preceding one. The thematic justification is caused by the necessity to create the model of integral functioning of the emotive units. Material and methods include analysis and synthesis of the material on the linguistic representation of emotions on the base of the Russian language, generalization of the factual scientific theories. Emotive units are found at each level of the language system. At the phonetic level, emotive phonetic meaning is discovered. The connection between emotive units of different levels is observed. It allows to use neighboring levels for studying emotive units of a single level. In texts, emotionality is expressed in an integrated manner. That allows to perceive and create emotional texts prudently and efficiently, which is especially important in texts of political content, propaganda and advertising, etc. Due to the numerousness and complexity of emotions, their linguistic representations are also complex. The observed hierarchy of emotive units suggests total realization of the language emotive potential on the text level. Creation of generalized «theoretical framework» aimed at the concept of ways and means of expressing emotions on different language levels is crucial for further application of the corpus to empirical material analysis.

Knyazeva H.N. COMMUNICATIVE COMPLEXITY. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2013. Issue 5 (133). P. 110-118

The article deals with the phenomenon of communication as a manifestation of complexity of interacting creatures. Communication is considered not as a privilege of a human being; it is shown that it is in the root of the world of living nature, it has evolutionary origins. The communicative complexity is exposed by such concepts as flexibility, constructing, intersubjectivity, participatory sense-making, empathy, synergy, mutual incorporation and co-emergence of creatures, which enter the process of communication. Understanding of communication from the viewpoint of the conception of enactivism allows disclosing some substantial aspects of the constructivist character of communicative interaction.

Pak L.E. SPEECH GENRES SPECIFICITY OF AMERICAN AND RUSSIAN SPORTS COMMENTARIES. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 6 (183). P. 117-122

The article gives the results of comparison of illocutionary speech acts in sports commentaries in the USA and Russia under linguocultural paradigm. Sports commentary has made the system of its genres complicated over years. Description of discursive personality in the framework of sports commentary requires knowledge of basic speech genres and speech acts. We can see the tendency of individualization in sports commentary because it incorporates certain emotionally-estimated units (lexical and grammatical). Thus the analysis of speech genres specificity in sport commentary is of particular interest to scholars. Speech genres structure the communicative space of native speakers. Sports commentators, as bearers of different languages and cultures prefer different speech genres. Study of this specificity is of the interest of both foreign and domestic linguists. This is the first comparative analysis of the system of speech genres of sports commentators, as bearers of different cultures. That determines the scientific novelty of this study. Sports commentaries in artistic gymnastics (Russian and English) are the material of this study. We paid particular attention to the analysis of system of illocutionary speech acts using discourse analysis. The article describes the results of the analysis of illocutionary speech acts in sports commentary that determines the nature of functioning of the language personality.

Aleksandrov E.L., Shulman M.G. FORMATION OF THE INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT OF HIGHER SCHOOL AS A FACTOR OF ACTIVATING COGNITIVE ACTIVITY OF STUDENTS: FOREIGN EXPERIENCE. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 1 (190). P. 116-122

In the conditions of dynamically developing modern society, the training of specialists who have a set of qualities facilitating their professional socialization is becoming increasingly important. The solution of this problem is promoted by the formation of the innovative educational space of the university with the wide application of active didactic methods. The purposeful using of active technologies in the course of training sessions changes the nature of «subject-subject» relations: the teacher’s authoritarianism is a thing of the past, the student is motivated to develop professional competencies. An analysis of the works of Western European and American academic pedagogues makes it possible to establish that the statement of the competence approach within the humanitarian paradigm of education means in practice the implementation of innovative models of training in higher education. The use of such models in an academic environment provides a transition from teaching in the form of ready-made answers to the teaching of problem-search character. Some interactive techniques for conducting lecture classes are interesting for consideration: classroom response system, «inverted training». The experience on strengthening of interaction of participants of educational process in seminars is instructive. It includes the method of «numbered heads working together» based on the principles of cooperative learning as well as the technology of case study and brainwriting. It was concluded that the introduction of interactive technologies contributes to the intensification of the educational process, the formation of professional skills and the abilities ensuring the success of self-realization of student youth.

Sarsembaeva D.K. FORMATION OF RESEARCH COMPETENCE IN THE SUBJECT TRAINING OF A FUTURE GEOGRAPHY TEACHER. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 1 (178). P. 64-68

This article explains the necessity of formation of the research competence of future teachers in the course of subject training in geography, which takes place directly in the process of student research activities. Analyzes the competence approach to the definition of a number of key competencies of modern specialists. Considers different definition of the term “research competence”, its structure, identifies difficulties in the development of competence. The structure of research competence contains basic components: motivation (the sum of the interests, motivations, needs, aimed at implementing research abilities), cognitive (the amount of geographical knowledge, the ability to use this knowledge to solve research problems, the body of knowledge, methods and means of research activity), activity (readiness for the implementation of research activities, the ability to perform research activities and reflection). In our study, research competence in the subject preparation of a future geography teacher, is understood as a complex of research knowledge and skills of teachers needed for the organization of their research in the choice of means and educational technologies in the construction of educational activities. Changing the objectives and content of teacher training in the conditions of modern education requires the creation of specific conditions for the inclusion of future teachers in research activities.

The purpose of the experiment is to trace the features of functioning of the Vladimir Vysotsky’s precedent world in modern media sphere through actualization of Vysotsky’s texts in the media community (in particular in the social networks). Pilot experiment held in social network Vkontakte showed that precedent’s world development provides multiplicity dialogical discursive reactions on the precedent texts. The experiment proved that precedent world of Vladimir Vysotsky is a part of the cognitive base of the members of the Harry Potter’s fans community. This fact allows the author to suppose that this precedent world is relevant not only to some highly specialized communities and subcultures in media environment but also in modern Russian media sphere as a whole, and because of the trends in a social network is known outside of the network space, can be developed in other environments, but the general direction of this development is reflected in the social networks as one of the places of existence of social consciousness.

Polyakova N.V., Kryukova E.A., Korotkikh G.V. SENTENCE STRUCTURE IN A FOLKLORE TEXT (ON THE MATERIAL OF SELKUP FOUR-LINE RACY FOLK RHYMES). Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2020. Issue 2 (208). P. 111-116

Introduction. The syntax of the Selkup language has long remained a “white spot” on the linguistic map of the Samoyed linguistics. Phonology, morphology and vocabulary of Selkup dialects have repeatedly been the subject of scientific researches by representatives of various scientific linguistic schools. Much fewer scientific works are devoted to research of the syntactic features of the Selkup language, and most of this small number are based on material from the Northern dialects, while the Central and Southern dialects of the Selkup language have long remained out of the view of linguists. These factors make the study relevant. Material and methods. The material of the study are 30 four-line racy folk rhymes in the Narym dialect of the Selkup language. The main methods of the research are popular scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and specific scientific (linguistic) methods: comparative, descriptive, method of immediate constituent analysis. Results and discussions. A brief overview of the syntax studies of different dialects of the Selkup language is presented, structural analysis of the texts of the four-line racy folk rhymes of the Narym Selkups is carried out, word order is analyzed, repetition as one of the main folklore techniques is considered. In terms of structure, 60.9 % of the sentences analyzed are two-part sentences, 39.1 % are one-part sentences. The most frequent word order in two-part sentences is SVO (16.66 %), in the second place is SOV (7 %), in the third - OSV (4.7 %); there are very few sentences with word order OVS (2.38 %). The most frequent repetitions revealed in the study are concentrating repetitions. Conclusion. A four-line racy folk rhyme as a special folklore genre borrowed from the Russians became widespread among the Narym Selkups. This genre is expected to have rhyme and influences the structural and syntactic organization of the sentence. Repetitions serve the function of structural organization of the text of a fourline racy folk rhyme, highlighting the most significant content components, and are less involved in its syntactic organization.

The article considers the material and technical support service of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army during the fighting near Lake Khasan from July 29 to August 11, 1938, in particular, the chronology of the transport service activities and the problems in organizing the delivery of ammunition, food, engineering materials and other materials necessary for combat operations. The problem of material support of troops is closely examined in the key of the Soviet-Finnish war and the Great Patriotic War. At the same time, little attention is paid to previous conflicts: the conflict on the Chinese Eastern railway, fighting at Lake Khasan and the conflict on the Khalkhin-Gol river, although they had a significant impact on the structure of the material support service. In 1939 the final Field Charter of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army was adopted, in which the main functions of combat and material support services were registered. The purpose of this article is to study the actions of the transport service from various points of view: from the organization of the delivery of ammunition to the organization of roads to the site of the fights. Before the start of the fighting, the only road reached Novo-Kievskoe village (since 1936, Kraskino), but it was also washed away by downpours going in the region at this time of the year. There was no land road from Novo-Kievskoye to Lake Khasan; it was built after the end of the fighting. The organization of material support in the area of Lake Khasan showed the resilience and readiness of Soviet people to resist foreign aggression, but at the same time it revealed significant shortcomings that existed in one form or another until the middle of the Great Patriotic War, which shows that despite the appearance of errors, nobody took proper measures to eliminate them.

Akbayeva F.N. SEMANTIC-STYLISTIC AND FUNCTIONAL ASPECTS OF CONTEXTUAL SYNONYMS AS EXAMPLES OF ALTERNATE NOMINATION. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 2 (191). P. 41-47

The theory of nomination still has many open questions to be thoroughly studied and gaps to be filled. Contextual synonymy is one of those fields that need closer look at the processes and mechanisms of creating new naming units or adding new meanings to the existing ones. This article represents the results of the research on the phenomenon of contextual synonymy in its semantic, stylistic and functional aspects. Contextual synonyms are viewed as examples of alternate nomination. The distinction is made between language synonyms and contextual ones. Their comparative occurrence within football subdiscourse is studied. As follows from the results of the analysis of more than 200 articles and running commentaries there is a variety of regularly used clichés which are based on specific recurrent semantic schemes. Typical patterns for creating contextual synonyms as examples of secondary nomination of football teams and players are derived from above mentioned semantic schemes. To prove their existence the author provides a considerable amount of examples. Alongside with the cliché variants there are many occasional cases of creating contextual synonyms that are unique in their nature. It is observed which part of speech is exposed to stronger contextual multiplication, particularly noun or verb groups. Further on the author analyses specific aspects of using contextual synonyms and determines their functions in the text.

Mikhail Arkadievich Polumordvinov (1867–1917) is a border guard officer, Orientalist, a member of the Society of Russian Orientalists (Harbin). His manuscripts and collections of Asian artifacts are now stored in the Tomsk Regional Museum after M.B. Shatilov and in the Scientific Library of Tomsk State University. His biography is little studied, although it attracted the attention of researchers. The article uses new data, an attempt is made to reinterpret previously known material. The article examines connection of military service with his occupation of orientalism. The conclusion is drawn not only about presence of this conditionality, but also that conditionality was beyond these limits, determined by personal inclinations of orientalist and peculiarities of Oriental studies existence in “Russian Harbin”. Polumordvinov appears before us as strong orientalist and representative of military intelligentsia, whose heritage is interesting for a wide range of researchers to this day. Also shown are geographical boundaries of his activity and personal qualities of this person. The article is of practical value, as supporting material for further work with the orientalist’s collections. The appeal to the life and creativity of Polumordvinov will serve to understand content and subjective component of the Chinese-Mongolian “branch” of Russian oriental studies of the early 20th century. The problem of the research project “Typology of Simple Sentence in the Languages of the Ob-Yenisei area: Information and Argument Structure” sponsored by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) has been described in detail: a review of literature on structural and communicative syntax has been made, also the degree of the project topic study in the languages under investigation has been analyzed. The languages of the project do not give a detailed description of the subject-matter. The Praat linguistic program, which allows to divide the sound stream, will be used to the results of the study. The result is to form an understanding of the typological picture of the Ob-Yenisei language area with respect to the word order and communicative structure of the sentence. The article is finished with a brief review of prospective directions of the researches which are to be fulfilled on the materials of underdescribed and highly endangered languages. The indigenous population of Siberia has faced difficulties in describing the language picture of the world on the material and spiritual culture of ethnic minorities. The Ob-Yenisei language area has not been described on individual grammatical categories in the functional and typological perspective, and the problem with the lexical typology, and syntax, does not contain an investigation in the areal aspect. Thus, it is necessary to elaborate studies on small languages

It was established that the figurines of a bear standing on four paws, and the image of the beast’s head are genetically related to similar types of the sculpture that appeared in the Neolithic Era. The images of a bear standing on its hind paws became popular on the eve of the Iron Age under the influence of the forest-steppe ethnocultural impacts. The partial images are undergoing the process of rearchaization and form compositions known as a bear in the «sacrificial posture». Novikova V.S. DEVELOPMENT OF SEMANTIC-DERIVATIVE POTENTIAL OF NAMES OF CORRELATIVE CONCEPTS OF STUDENT IN ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGE CULTURES. Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 4 (193). P. 142-146

Correlative concepts STUDENT refer to understudied cultural and mental entities. The relevance of this work is determined by the need to understand deeply the content, as well as to detalize the structure of these concepts, correlated with the significant social figure of modern human communities. The subject of study are lexicographic meanings of the names of concepts STUDENT, fixed in dictionaries of English and Russian languages of XIX– XX centuries. The paper allots the following tasks: 1) to carry out an analysis of historical and linguistic information concerning the word student, which are contained in dictionary entries written in English; 2) to analyze historical and linguistic information concerning the word student, contained in dictionary entries written in Russian; 3) to compare the results obtained. During the research, we use methods of descriptive method (observation, comparison, generalization, interpretation), definition analysis, combined with semantic analysis, as well as contextual analysis of the dictionary illustrations. The article is intended for researchers in the field of lexical semantics, linguoculturology, linguo-conceptology. So, the concept STUDENT appeared in English worldview earlier than the concept STUDENT in Russian worldview. This is evidenced by the time of lexicographic imaging of key names of these correlative concepts. Initially, student was associated with people, enthusiastic books, then with people who acquired knowledge and life experience in different educational institutions, and, finally, with people who receive this or that specialty. In the name of concept STUDENT there is a certain dynamics: the expansion of semantic field, especially due to units that are hyponyms to the keyword. In all dictionaries of the Russian language, the lexical unit student is indicated as borrowing from European languages. For a long time in the Russian linguistic culture, its nuclear part remains practically unchanged. In the meaning of the word student, only peripheral semes are changed or modified. We can also state the enrichment of the derivational potential of this word. The development of the semantic-derivational possibilities of the names of the considered correlative concepts is related to the peculiarities of a particular language. In English, the word student is characterized by semantic derivation, in Russian by word-formative derivation.

Tolstolutskaya E.V., Sleptsova S.V., Svishchev G.V. EUPHEMIZATION OF THE HEADER STRUCTURES OF POLITICAL ARTICLES (ON THE MATERIAL OF CONTEMPORARY FRENCH NEWSPAPERS). Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 6 (183). P. 91-95

The paper deals with the header structures of political articles, which include euphemisms and are taken from contemporary French newspapers. Considering the tense political situation in the world, euphemistic titles in the articles on political topics become increasingly relevant. They provide a smoothing effect of the emotional impact on the political discourse. Mass media titles and headers serve to partially reveal the text’s information and make a certain impact on the reader. Euphemism is considered as a word used for the sake of decency and discretion, to avoid mentioning unpleasant or shocking reality. As used in the press language, euphemisms render negative referents in terms of information. Their task is to modify the situation through a process of denomination and alleviative processing. Headers of political articles are classified by the type of negative revaluation of referents: understatement, axiological neutralization, improvement. Understatement in the French-language journalism is often implemented through euphemisms formed by meiosis, because they contain inherently weak negative denotation. Axiological neutralization contributes to veiling the true situation. Titles of articles are included in the policy framework shaped euphemistic statements, which make reality less dramatic, and are an essential component of the text itself. They embody a certain judgment about the current political situation. Authors neutralize the negative characteristics contained in the original concept, causing less dramatic reality that promotes the manipulation of mass consciousness. When using the improvement technique, negative formulation gives way to a more positive. Thus, the euphemisms substitute for unwanted words or expressions, which could cause a backlash in a particular situation, for the ones with a neutral connotation.
