Karpukhina T.P. Morphemic Repetition and its Place in Functional Sentence Perspective in English Artistic Prose. // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2006. Issue 4 (55). P. 71-77

The article is devoted to the study of morphemic repetition and inversion in English artistic prose. Either of these phenomena being a means of emphasis, they, when combined, produce a most powerful effect on the reader. In this article inverted sentences accompanied by morphemic repetition are analyzed from the point of view of the functional sentence perspective. Both root and affixal reiteration are subjected to analysis. As a result the following conclusions may be drawn. Closely connected and interrelated are such aspects as: a) the type of the recurrent morpheme (root or affix); b) the type of cohesion (chain-like or parallel); c) the communicative function of words with the reiterative morpheme (thematic or rhematic) The character of the actual division of inverted sentences and the type of cohesion largely depend on the type of morpheme reiterated. In case of root repetition the rheme of the first sentence expressed by the word with the recurrent morpheme migrates into the theme of the second utterance. More typical of root repetition is chain-like cohesion of inverted sentences. In case of affixal repetition the rheme of the preceding sentence, expressed by the word with the recurrent morpheme, does not usually change its rhematic character in the succeeding sentence. More characteristic of affixal repetition is syntactical parallelism.

Eremina N.V., Krapivina M.Y. STYLISTIC PECULIARITIES OF TRANSLATING ENGLISH NEWSPAPER AND JOURNALISTIC TEXTS // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 5 (202). P. 71-78

Introduction. Taking into account the stylistic features of the translation of English-language newspaper and journalistic texts is important to preserve their targeted influence on the holistic perception of the text. The stylistic components of the utterance include its functional characteristics and emotional orientation. This article is aimed at considering and analyzing the stylistic features of translating newspaper and journalistic texts of the modern media published in English. Material and methods. A comparative analysis of the linguistic units of the articles of the modern English-language press has been carried out, and the functional characteristics of individual utterances bearing a stylistic and emotional coloring have been revealed. The heterogeneity of the choice of language means of translation of stylistically colored language units is shown. Results and discussion. The analysis showed a high percentage of the use of functional substitutions, transfers, metonymy, generalization, concretization. In each case, the traditions of explication of the translating language were primarily taken into account. The paper substantiates the use of translational transformations, including those that neutralize some stylistic elements that are not typical for newspaper and journalistic text, when an adequate transfer of a leading stylistic function requires certain shifts in the denotative meaning. The method of compensation, as well as stylistic transpositions, is widely used, and the functional role of these transpositions is a decisive criterion when choosing a translation method. The choice of stylistically colored translation equivalents is justified in most cases by their ability to convey the expressiveness and functional characteristic of the utterance. Conclusion. The authors conclude that taking into account the stylistic features of the translation of linguistic units determines not only an adequate understanding of the text, but also an emotional reaction, a perception of ideological attitudes, a psychological effect on the reader, and the most accurate transfer of the emotional coloring of the original is a necessary condition for an adequate translation.

Biedash Y.A. HENRI LEFEBVRE’S CONCEPT OF SOCIAL SPACE // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2012. Issue 11 (126). P. 219-224

The article is dedicated to the concept of the space elaborated by the French philosopher and social theorist Henri Lefebvre. Trying to overcome reductionism, typical of metaphysical theories of space, Lefebvre turns to daily experience of space and considers it in three interdependent dimensions: material, socio-political and research ones. The primary sociality of space means, according to Lefebvre, that the question of production of space should be asked in the context of problem of production and reproduction of social relations. So, the analysis of space assumes the character of social critique: to change society means for Lefebvre to change space (and vice versa).

Gavrilyuk M.A. Plant Metaphor in Chinese: semasiological and cognitive aspects // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2024. Issue 1 (231). P. 23-32

The article is devoted to the study of the cognitive foundations of the Chinese phytonymic vocabulary metaphorical meanings formation. This layer of lexical units, fixing the most important areas of non-linguistic reality for native speakers, has a high degree of relevance for the Chinese national linguistic consciousness, which provides wide opportunities for its metaphorical reinterpretation. Secondary figurative nominations arising as a result of this process play an important role in the conceptualization of the world, acting as one of the main means of implementing the phytomorphic code of culture. The purpose of this work is a linguocognitive description of the Chinese figurative vocabulary, motivated by the names of objects and phenomena of the plant world, and the identification of a fragment of the Chinese language picture of the world, which is imprinted in it. The research material was the data of explanatory and phraseological dictionaries, as well as the contexts of the use of phytomorphic nominations extracted from the national corpus of the Chinese language. The study of the factual material was carried out using the method of component and contextual analysis, elements of linguocognitive modeling, as well as the method of linguocultural commentary. As a result of the analysis, the denotations of the Chinese phytonymic figurative nominations were determined, as well as the system of bases for metaphorical assimilation and schemes of prototypical metaphorical transfers from the source sphere of “Plants” involved in the conceptualization of other conceptual areas were revealed. The study showed that the names of plant objects are used for metaphorical interpretation of phenomena in such spheres of reality as “Man”, “Natural World”, “Abstract world” and “Society”. At the same time, the majority of plant metaphors (68.7%) in Chinese belong to the anthroposphere, among which prevail the nominations of the characteristics of appearance and moral qualities of a person. The formation of figurative meanings of phytonymic units included in the above-mentioned conceptual spheres is carried out according to certain metaphorical models characterized by a common basis of figurative analogy. It was also determined that various properties of objects of the plant world (such as shape, size, color, features of structure and consistency, stage of development, taste, general assessment of appearance, reaction to environmental factors, prevalence, nutritional and aesthetic value) can act as such common bases of figurative analogy. Their identification and consistent description made it possible to reconstruct to a certain extent the corresponding fragment of the Chinese language picture of the world.

Glushkova S.A. MOTHERS’ IMAGES IN F. M. DOSTOEVSKY’S NOVEL “THE ADOLESCENT” // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2022. Issue 6 (224). P. 121-131

Introduction. Roman F. M. Dostoevsky’s “The Adolescent” is defined by many researchers as a novel of education. If the relationship between Versilov and Arkady is comprehensively covered in the research literature, then another aspect of parental love – maternal – seems to be insufficiently studied. Although some scientists (N. A. Tarasova, N. A. Kladova, E. A. Ivanova) indirectly touched on this topic, it has not yet become the subject of independent study. Aim of the article is to consider the images of heroines-mothers Sofia Andreevna Dolgorukaya and Daria Onisimovna in the novel by F. M. Dostoevsky’s “The Adolescent”. Material and methods. The material of the study is Dostoevsky’s novel “The Adolescent”. With the help of structural-semiotic, motivic and comparative methods, the specificity of the author’s embodiment of the artistic images of mothers is traced from the idea and drafts to the final text, the role of maternal images of Sofya Andreevna Dolgoruky and Darya Onisimovna (Nastasya Egorovna) in the process of raising Arkady, Liza and Olya is analyzed. Results and discussion. The key images embodying the images of mothers and children are Sofya Andreevna Dolgorukaya and her children, Arkady and Lisa, as well as Daria Onisimovna and her daughter Olya. In the artistic conception of the novel, maternal love is presented as an effective way to overcome the spiritual illness of a nation, an individual family and each of its members. Thirst for a significant life goal, youthful maximalism, denial of the experience and values of previous generations, supposedly “guilt” of parents for insufficient success or personal qualities of a Teenager are typical age-related features of personality development. The immaturity of the unsettled personality of a Teenager can be overcome and healed in the family. Through overcoming selfishness and vanity, realizing himself as an integral part of his family, the young man finds his way, his individuality. Moreover, the leading role in the formation of a teenager is maternal. Through the understanding and acceptance by the “holy mother” of the shortcomings and mistakes of a child of any age, the sources of love are gradually opened and the model of family behavior is inherited as a sacred moral norm that ensures the stability and integrity of an adult personality. In addition, the article reveals the process of mutual influence in the system of «mother – child» relations both within the family and in a wider social context. The writer emphasizes the negative role of tragic events in the spiritual transformation of the artistic images of mothers, depicting the suffering of a woman who lost her baby (Liza) and the suicide of her daughter (Daria Onisimovna). Conclusion. In the novel “The Adolescent” Dostoevsky depicts two types of motherly love. The first type of merciful and all-accepting love is embodied by Sofya Andreevna. Her love influenced Arkady’s way of thinking, transformed his soul and revealed to him the value of family relationships, the unconditionality of parental love. In the relationship between Liza and her mother, as in the case of the relationship between Arkady and Sofya Andreevna, love became saving, brought comfort in grief, helped to survive suffering and grow spiritually. The second, opposite, type of hypertrophied love-passion for the child is realized in the relationship between Darya Onisimovna and Olya. Such love is initially destructive, devoid of a Christian basis, as a result of which the maternal image is transformed as an artistic integrity: the place of Darya Onisimovna is replaced by the shadow of the heroine – Nastasya Egorovna.

Kubyshkina V.O. MASONS’ ESOTERIC KNOWLEDGE AS THE ELEMENT OF GNOSTIC TRADITION IN “MASTER AND MARGARITA” NOVEL BY M. A. BULGAKOV // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2016. Issue 7 (172). P. 162-167

The article is dedicated to analysis of Masonic symbolic as the element of Gnostic philosophy tradition in “Master and Margarita” novel by M. A. Bulgakov. The Mystic literature, which was known to the writer, provides the source of model of the universe in artistic work. Motif of saving knowledge, being joint for Masonry and Gnosticism, is revealed in text, determining novel’s ideological and artistic originality and defining heros’ roles: master – pneumatic, destined for esoteric knowledge discovering, Margarita – mystery wife and guide to transcendental world, Woland – harbinger, organizing initiation ritual. Master’s inner conflict is defined by confrontation between herald of truth endowment and material world’s captive weakness.

Kondratyeva O.N., Baumtrok I.A. METAPHORICAL REPRESENTATION OF INFLATION IN RUSSIAN MEDIA DISCOURSE // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 7 (184). P. 66-70

The article shows the specifics of the functioning of economic concepts of the media, carried out by an intermediary between reality as a mass audience and as a powerful tool for influencing readers’ minds. Mass-media not only inform readers, but frequently refract, transform events and facts, allocate with their varied assessments, impose this or that vector of their perception and interpretation. One of the ways of similar transformation of validity in mediadiscourse is metaphor. The object of the research is one of the most meaningful concepts of economic area – concept «inflation», the subject – a specific character of its metaphorical representation in the Russian mediadiscourse of XXI century. As the material of mediatexts’ research (2000-2015), presented in newspaper subcorpus the National corpus of Russian Language have served. During the analysis anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, naturemorphic, military, sports, mechanistic metaphorical models were revealed and described, their role in creation of an image of inflation in consciousness of ordinary native speakers was established, the pragmatic potential of the given models was established, the assessments of inflation shaped by mass-media are revealed. The analysis has shown, that at the given economic stage inflation in Russia is estimated by national massmedia mainly negatively, confirming this metaphorical representation of this concept, as well as its contextual environment. Inflation is metaphorically characterized as a certain subject or object, impeding to normal functioning of a society. It may be a gluttonous essence, «eating» savings of citizens with extreme speed, an invincible soldier beating the poor, a sprinter who starts at high speed and carries away behind itself the prices, a dispersed mechanism which is practically not responding to levers constraining it, destructive elements. Thus, such properties of inflation as uncontrolled, destructive influence on economy, are underlined by the need for serious economic transformations to overcome inflation.

Petrochenko L.A. REVERSE COMPARISON IN MODERN ENGLISH // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 3 (180). P. 38-41

The article deals with the peculiarities of the use of reverse comparison forms in Modern English. The category of adjectival comparison, constituted by three degrees and five forms, expresses the quantitative characteristic of the quality of a nounal referent. The synthetic forms of comparison in -er and -(e)st coexist with the analytical more/most-forms (direct comparison) on the one hand and the analytical forms effected by the auxiliaries less and least (reverse comparison) on the other. Linguists often point out the semantic and functional parallelism existing between the synthetic forms of comparison and the more/most-combinations while the less/least-combinations are regarded as completely opposite. But from grammatical point of view, the term ‘opposite meaning’ amounts to ascertaining the categorial equality of the forms compared. The basic form as the positive degree of comparison is quite often included in one and the same syntagmatic correlations with the other members of comparison scale. The reverse comparison forms are of lesser usage than the direct ones. Psychologically it is easier to follow the direct model of comparison based on the principle of addition than the reverse model based on the principle of subtraction, but in some cases the reverse comparison forms are indispensable. The reverse comparative and superlative forms can be found in syntagmatic correlations with the positive degree form and all the forms of direct comparison. The reverse comparison performs several significant functions. The most important of them are: subtraction of qualitative quantities without changing the nature of a quality, understatement as far as negative qualities are concerned, euphemistic usage, creating comic effect.

Zhukova E.A. The Problem of Classification of High Technologies // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2008. Issue 1 (75). P. 34-46

The article raises a problem of classification of high technologies (Hi-Tech). To create an adequate classification of Hi-Tech it is necessary to reveal specificity of their creation and mechanisms of their influence on social-cultural systems and on a person. Complexity and multivariability of the problem is caused by polysemanticism of the concepts «technology» and «high technology». The creation of technology is proved to consist of three separate stages: technological knowledge, technological process and replication of technology products. The specific features of these stages are fixed in a spectrum of numerous definitions. The revealed stages let us to establish the informational nature of technologies. Hi-Tech causes self-organization effects of social-cultural systems that cannot be predicted. Hi-Tech are complex historic developing systems which cannot be considered without taking into account interactions with a person. Grekova O.K., Akbaba T. INFORMATION TRANSMISSION PROCESS: LANGUAGE MEANS OF DESIGNATION IN THE COURSE OF RUSSIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 8 (205). P. 128-135

Introduction. The paper deals with one of the cornerstones, fundamental substances of the modern world order (now based on the triad matter – energy – information) – information. Information transmission process, relevant for such areas as journalism, philology, diplomacy, sociology, business - is considered as a fragment of the worldview, both from the viewpoint of content and form. An attempt of structuring the process based on the interdisciplinary study achievements led to designing the 11-member model. As far as, according to the data of the large modern semantic dictionaries, the language (verbal) units of the process elements’ designation appeared disconnected, separated into different headings (8 in amount), sometimes not closely related to each other, the need of enlargening the scale of this block correspondingly arose. The verb vocabulary selected on the basis of Laboratory for General and Computational Lexicology and Lexicography of the Philology Faculty of the Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov database has formed a united class of Information Transmission Verbs numbering 340 units and relevant for the lexical-syntactic Russian as a Foreign Language (RFL) course. The meaning of information transmission acts as a strong (belonging to lexical semantics), weakened (activized only with the support of the context) and figurative of different types. Consequently, these language meanings’ types in RFL vocabulary should be presented in different ways. The purpose of this article was 1) to put the formed vocabulary in accordance with the Model of Information Transmission; 2) to analyze the dictionary in regard to two positions of the developed model: action designation and information (message) type. Material and methods. The leading research method was the method of verbal word component analysis. Results and discussion. It turned out that the verbal vocabulary is working out the information transmission process both qualitatively and quantitatively. At the same time, such qualitative characteristics as the absence of the sender and different types of information distortion appear. Quantitative characteristics have the form of information dosing and the intensity/extensity of the process. Verbs of Information Transmission (as ободрить, обнадежить, вселить надежду, развеселить), characterizing both the sender and the addressee, and simultaneously transmitting the sender’s intention and the recipient`s response – have been brought to light. Typifying information (also associated with the syntagmatic features of a verbal predicate), on the one hand, gives a fairly broad picture of its varieties, and on the other hand, allows us to determine, albeit relatively, its volume. Conclusion. Selected language means for designating positions of the Information Transmission Model are intended for the lexical-syntactic course of functional Russian.

Vesnina T.L. THE CRIMSON ISLAND BY MIKHAIL BULGAKOV: FROM FEUILLETON TO DRAMA // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2018. Issue 2 (191). P. 188-195

The article analyzes for the first time the poetics of Bulgakov’s satirical piece The Crimson Island and transformation of its distinctive features in the play of the same name. The satirical piece The Crimson Island features not only doubling of the object and subject of satire, but also slapstick dramatization and dialog structure of the text. The piece of prose, written in 1924, incorporates in «translation of a novel by Jules Verne» a series of short reports by anonymous American reporter about the exotic island for the Western audience. The principle of coexistence of texts in different genres by «different authors» is represented as «a play inside a play» in 1928. Comparison of texts in different genres with the same name, analysis of the hypothetical island story in the play, with a background story, taking place in a Soviet theatre in 1930s, shows that the comic mode, which is present both in the satirical piece and the play, having the same slapstick nature, is more prominent in dialogs of the play. The article states that Bulgakov uses the literary device, not the genre, and describes its functions. The article focuses on the main character in the satirical piece and the island story in the play, Kiri-Kuki. The «court fraud» in the first variant, who met his bad end, gains artistic volume to its character as a part of complex artistic image of an emerging author Dymogatsky in the play. He is the first proof of the Bulgakov’s growing interest in the fate of an artist under «the arbitrary power».

Leushina I.S., Temerbekova A.A. ANALYSIS OF THE MAIN APPROACHES TO DEFINITION OF THE CONCEPT «UNIVERSAL EDUCATIONAL ACTIONS» // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2017. Issue 1 (178). P. 28-32

The article considers the problem of development of metasubject universal educational actions of students of the general school. The authors of the article see the solution of a debatable question in the detailed characteristic of the concept “universal educational actions” which is based on a complex of scientific and pedagogical judgements of an etiology of this term, its close connection with other concepts, influence of age features of school students on the process of formation and development of universal educational actions. The main goal of realization of Fedaral State Educational Standard is the achievement of the planned educational results expressed by the concept of universal educational actions. As this term is key, the authors of the publication carry out a complex analysis of its contents, including historical aspects which are the cornerstone of emergence of the phenomena, and also open the field of its application. The analysis of pedagogical literature has shown that many domestic and foreign scientists-researchers in the field of pedagogics were engaged in studying of the concepts “activity”, “educational activity”, “educational actions”, “doctrine”, “educational culture” in the 30th years of the 20th century. Actively have dealt with the issues of the developing training in the 60th years of the last century. Along with variety of the existing definitions, the authors of the article reveal the contradiction which mentions the accuracy and definiteness of use of the concept “educational actions” in practice. The term “universal educational actions” is used at different stages of general education (primary, basic) generally for the characteristic of metasubject educational results though a set of these results at each step is different and is characterized by psychological and age features of students. According to the authors of the article, “universal educational actions” is a complex of educational methods of behavior of the pupils consisting of planning of a trajectory of achievement of educational results, the analysis of their parameters, the choice of the ways of achievement, monitoring the gained experience and its comparison with the expected result answering the educational purpose, diagnostics of the reasons of a discrepancy with “standard” and also correction and designing of new knowledge.

Characteristics of printed broadside epitaph are given in the article and a brief outline of its existence in the late 16th century is presented together with some notions about its place among other texts and rituals that shaped the final memory about the deceased. More consideration is given to the fact that there are genre similarities and distinctions between broadside epitaphs and literary funeral elegies of the period, elegy being more refined according to the standards of classical education and more personalized. It is shown that compared to epigraphic epitaph and funeral elegy broadside epitaph still has not got sufficient attention in historical research as a specific part of memorial literature, the article trying to fill up the gap. Resources of broadside epitaph in shaping the memory of a person are discussed, also some particular occasions of individual memorization are noted, though in general broadside epitaphs are shown as texts that were aimed to construction of communal memorization and communal solidarity. Kozina V.V. IMAGES OF CHARACTERS OF THE FAIRY-TALE POEM “THE MAIDEN TSAR” (“TSAR’-DEVITSA”) BY M. I. TSVETAEVA IN THE MIRROR OF COMPARISONS: THE MAIDEN TSAR AND TSAREVITCH // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 4 (201). P. 31-40

The article examines the semantic and stylistic system of comparisons in the fairy-tale poem “The Maiden Tsar” by M. I. Tsvetaeva. The purpose of the article is to compare features of the source domain and the target domain corre sponding to the comparisons in the fairy-tale poem of M. Tsvetaeva with the features of the images of The Maiden Tsar and Tsarevitch. The cognitive theory of the metaphorical speech and the theory of the literary word associativity developed in the communicative stylistics of text are the basis of the analysis of comparisons. In relation to comparisons, target domain (A) is a compared object, its semantic features, while source domain (B) is an object, with which A is compared. In the consciousness of an addresser, source domain is a reaction to the target domain, while, in the consciousness of an addressee, it is an incentive to form the associative field of the target domain. As one of the most important characteristics of the literary word, associativity allows the addresser and the addressee to compare two domains (A and B) on a definite basis (C), which becomes a key to the aesthetic sense. The analysis includes semantic and stylistic, statistic and stylistic methods. The system of comparisons reflects the important characteristics of the key images of the poem. It concerns not only means of expression of the comparison (for example, Ablative of Comparison expressing brightness, sharpness, and dynamism plays a great role in the representation of The Maiden Tsar, while conjunctions of comparison with unreal modality expressing that the character is lost and incompatible with material world are significant in the realization of the image of Tsarevitch), but also the comparison of the target domain and source domain. The following conclusions are the result of the research: in the comparison of the target domain of comparisons representing The Maiden Tsar and Tsarevitch, the integral semantic feature is the unusualness of characters belonging to another world. However, they have different nature of this belonging: The Maiden Tsar has the solar one (semantics of life, energy, warmth), while Tsarevitch has the lunar one (semantics of unreality, physical weakness, cold). Comparison of the other semantic characteristics of the target domain (a type of beauty and strength) occurs according to this central opposition. The differentiation of images according to the characteristics of the target domain includes the difference of such semantic dominants as the strength of love (in the image of The Maiden Tsar) and creativity (in the image of Tsarevitch). Source domain reflects the associative richness of the poetic world of M. Tsvetaeva. Aesthetic content of the comparisons of M. Tsvetaeva is endless. However, the analysis of comparisons based on the approaches of communicative stylistics of text and cognitive linguistics makes it possible to describe comparisons as the semantic and stylistic system.

Maksimova S.A. NEWS MEME AS INTERNET GENRE // Tomsk State Pedagogical University Bulletin. 2019. Issue 5 (202). P. 95-101

Introduction. Virtual discourse is in constant motion and development, the discursive parameters have undergone significant changes over the past 10 years. The composition of internet genres is also unstable: the functions of genres change, the process of integration of different genres takes place, as well as differentiation – it is when we highlight many subtypes in the limits of one genre. In this article we are going to explore the genre of news meme, which is one of the varieties of Internet memes. The aim of this article is to describe the specifics of news meme as an Internet genre in comparison to the news genre. Materials and methods. During the analysis of material we used general scientific and proper linguistic methods of research, such as: descriptive method, comparative method, methods of interpretation and classification, method of continuous and differentiated sampling. The material for the study was the publications posted on the social network VKontakte (61 news memes). Results and discussion. The news meme was analyzed according to the model proposed by T. V. Shmeleva, a comparative analysis was conducted with the “news” genre: 1. The communicative aim of news meme is, as a rule, of negative kind, while the news genre is usually of informative kind. 2. The author of the news is a journalist and a professional. The author of the news meme is stylized as an ordinary person and a public opinion holder. There is no distance between the author of the news meme and the addressee. 3. The factor of the past for news is an event, which we have to report to the addressee. For a meme, the factor of the past is the text of the news. 4. The factor of the future is an optional element for news. News is an all-sufficient text. For a news meme, the future factor is a required element, presented in the form of comments. 5. Dictum for news genre is an event which happened in real world. Dictum for a news meme is social, economic and other problems associated with this event. As a rule, this connection is formal. 6. Formal organization. The structure of news meme has four parts: announcement of main news, link to the source, illustration and comments. The carnival beginning of the meme is realized in the illustration, where in an unexpected way it reveals what was stated in the announcement. Conclusion. After systemazing and generalizing the described parameters we can give the definition to the genre. News meme is a secondary Internet genre, which we base on the news text and which raises the acute social, political, ethical problems in an ironical form and which we stylize to the opinion of the masses of people.
