| 451 | Introduction. Terminology of IT-sphere is one of the most dynamically developing term systems. It is mainly explained by rapid technological progress in this sphere that encourages new nominations and clarification of the already existing terms. It is noteworthy that traditional one-component terms fail to meet the demands of the nomination process, as they are not able to reflect the complexity of new technical phenomena. As a result, multicomponent terms being capable of clear nominations start to numerously appear in computer terminology. At the same time, the structure and complicated meaning of multicomponent terms raise certain problems with their translation to other languages concerning the use of a variety of transformations. The aim of the research is to reveal the ways of translation of multicomponent terms belonging to IT-sphere from English into Russian taking into consideration their structural and semantic characteristics. Material and methods. The material of the research includes 500 English multicomponent terms of IT-sphere and 500 their Russian equivalents taken from the computer terms dictionary by I. V. Baratov through the method of continuous sampling. The study also uses the method of structural-semantic and translational analysis. Results and discussion. Multi-component terms in the field of information technology can be divided into three groups depending on the number of components, determined by the number of elements expressed by meaningful parts of speech: three-, four- and five-component terms. Three-component terms are the most numerous group, which is due to the desire of any language to save, only two five-component terms were found, so it is not possible to talk about the patterns of their translation. While studying the ways of translation of 3-component terms it was noted that the translator always tends to preserve the structure and meaning of the original term using calquing of the whole multicomponent term or some of its elements (44 % of cases). At the same time due to the typological differences between the English and Russian languages the translator has to resort to grammar transformations in the Russian language such as changing the order of the components, using cases and prepositions, changing parts of speech. As for the lexical transformations apart from calquing the translator uses lexical addition in case of necessary clarification of term components or description when the phenomenon denoted by the term does not exist in the Russian language. In 13 % of cases the translator resorts to equivalent when the Russian language has a shorter but capacious term expressing the same meaning as the multicomponent English term. In translation of 3-component terms in at least 13 % of cases the translator manages to preserve the structure of the original English term changing only the parts of speech of some components in case of 4-component and 5-component terms inversion or changing of the general order of the components turns out to be the key transformation. Among lexical transformations calquing of certain components, lexical addition, equivalent translation and description are used. Conclusion. The analysis of the ways of translation of multicomponent terms of IT-sphere from English into Russian revealed the dependence of grammar transformations on the typological characteristics of the languages. For example, English collocations are marked by regressive structure and post-position of the main word with an adjointment as the typical type of syntactic connection, while in the Russian language the collocations are built according to progressive structure with the preposition of the main word and government as a syntactic connection. As a result, the transformations while translating multicomponent terms from English into Russian manly include a change in the order of components, the use of cases and prepositions, and a change in parts of speech. Even in a small number of 3-component terms, it is possible to preserve the original structure of the term by replacing the parts of speech of the dependent word (a noun with an adjective) to form a collocation with an agreement as a type of syntactic connection. As for lexical transformations, among them the most commonly used are calque of one or all components of a phrase, clarification, transliteration (mainly one or two components), lexical addition and description as a lexico-grammatical transformation. It is necessary to note that due to the complexity of the structure and meaning of the multicomponent terms their adequate translation is only possible using a set of ways and methods of translation. | 457 | Key peculiarities of literal prose translations of I. A. Krylov’s fables by well-known English slavist and interpreter W. R. S. Ralston are discussed in the article. The book Krilof and his Fables, first issued in 1869, enjoyed a great success and added a considerable contribution to propaganda of Russian culture in England. Lexical, syntactical, and stylistic features of the English texts, as well as difficult for translation cases of rendering of realities and proper names are studied. An attempt to explain the author’s choice of literal (exact) translation against the background of free Russian-English interpretations of the time is provided from the historical point of view. The article shows, that literal prose translation of Russian verse, however condemned as imperfect by modern translatology, was a successful and necessary step in its time, aimed at introducing a famous Russian writer to English readers. Ralston’s attempt was even more significant considering the traditional attitude of British authors to regard the fable as literary genre not just prone to, but also welcoming free interpretational transformations. Objectively lacking idiom, imagery and humour of the original, prose versions of Ralston, nevertheless, retrieved at least the true idea of the original fables contents and provided the readers with reliable image of Russian life and folklore. | 478 | The topic “Gogol and Bukharev” has moved into literary studies from the theological sphere. V. A. Voropaev was one of the first to turn to its philological understanding, who included the book by O. Feodor (Bukharev) “Three Letters to Gogol written in 1848” in the context of the problem of perception of “Selected passages from correspondence with friends” in the criticism of the XIX century. It seems that no less significant for modern science is the question of the ideological community of the writer and the theologian, their influence on each other, which left a mark in the activities of each of them. The purpose of the article is to use the material of memoirs and journalistic texts from the last third of the 19th – early 20th centuries to determine the most significant factors that served as a prerequisite for the spiritual rapprochement of Gogol and Bukharev. The research material was published in pre-revolutionary periodicals (“Theological Bulletin”, “Orthodox Interlocutor”, etc.) memoirs, notes, obituaries dedicated to Archimandrite Theodore and containing in one way or another information about his acquaintance with Gogol. The materials are analyzed in an interdisciplinary aspect: the historical and literary method is complemented by methodological tools of receptive aesthetics and biblical theology. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that both Gogol and Archimandrite Theodore (Bukharev) had an interest in the personality and theology of the Apostle Paul. It seems that this circumstance played a decisive role in the ideological and spiritual rapprochement of the writer and the theologian. Beginning in the late 1840s, Bukharev prepared a number of scientific and theological works on the Apostle Paul (“The Teaching of the Ap. St. Paul on the Antichrist in the 2nd Epistle to the Thessalonians”, “Several articles on the Holy Apostle Paul”, “On the authenticity of the Apostolic Epistles”, "On the Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Philippians”, “On the Epistle to the Romans”, etc.), laid the foundations for the study of the apostolic part of the New Testament in Russian biblical studies. Probably, Archimandrite Theodore became a kind of consultant for Gogol on the interpretation of the letters of the Apostle Paul. Both the writer and the theologian can be called “disciples of the Apostle Paul,” who drew from his epistles a set of theological ideas that largely determined their religious experience, and in relation to Gogol, their aesthetic concept. It is difficult to say unequivocally who influenced whom – the theologian or writer – because there is almost no direct evidence that reports on the specific content and nature of Gogol’s conversations with Father Theodore. Most likely, the influence was mutual and equivalent, since they were united by common ideas, interests and a common mentor in the interpretation and application of Christian teaching in life – St. Paul the Apostle. | 487 | This is meant to be a continuation to a series of the author’s publications devoted to the problems of teaching English as a second foreign language in a linguistic university (after German). The basic message which comes across from them is that there is a high correlation between the two foreign languages, what makes third language acquisition different in all aspects of teaching and learning processes. Here, we also briefly summarize the findings of a few studies that we have carried out, and take them a step further. This time we look at a fundamental problem for language pedagogy – principles that are applied in teaching a second foreign language. Hence, we refer to other writing on this subject, i.e. the existing classifications of basic principles viewed though through the component structure of professional competence of the linguist-teacher. So in surveying the factors determining the process of teaching and learning English after German (the peculiarities of the linguistic and ethnographic material; the peculiarities of the target group; the conditions of teaching and learning a second foreign language) we have tried to work out some principles that are supposed to be specific for the analyzed conditions: the principle of foundation and complementary connection with the first foreign language; the principle of constructive cooperation of the teacher and students; the principle of the spiral progression that implements the idea of intensification and extensification of third language acquisition. | 490 | The theory of nomination still has many open questions to be thoroughly studied and gaps to be filled. Contextual synonymy is one of those fields that need closer look at the processes and mechanisms of creating new naming units or adding new meanings to the existing ones. This article represents the results of the research on the phenomenon of contextual synonymy in its semantic, stylistic and functional aspects. Contextual synonyms are viewed as examples of alternate nomination. The distinction is made between language synonyms and contextual ones. Their comparative occurrence within football subdiscourse is studied. As follows from the results of the analysis of more than 200 articles and running commentaries there is a variety of regularly used clichés which are based on specific recurrent semantic schemes. Typical patterns for creating contextual synonyms as examples of secondary nomination of football teams and players are derived from above mentioned semantic schemes. To prove their existence the author provides a considerable amount of examples. Alongside with the cliché variants there are many occasional cases of creating contextual synonyms that are unique in their nature. It is observed which part of speech is exposed to stronger contextual multiplication, particularly noun or verb groups. Further on the author analyses specific aspects of using contextual synonyms and determines their functions in the text. | 491 | Correlative concepts STUDENT refer to understudied cultural and mental entities. The relevance of this work is determined by the need to understand deeply the content, as well as to detalize the structure of these concepts, correlated with the significant social figure of modern human communities. The subject of study are lexicographic meanings of the names of concepts STUDENT, fixed in dictionaries of English and Russian languages of XIX– XX centuries. The paper allots the following tasks: 1) to carry out an analysis of historical and linguistic information concerning the word student, which are contained in dictionary entries written in English; 2) to analyze historical and linguistic information concerning the word student, contained in dictionary entries written in Russian; 3) to compare the results obtained. During the research, we use methods of descriptive method (observation, comparison, generalization, interpretation), definition analysis, combined with semantic analysis, as well as contextual analysis of the dictionary illustrations. The article is intended for researchers in the field of lexical semantics, linguoculturology, linguo-conceptology. So, the concept STUDENT appeared in English worldview earlier than the concept STUDENT in Russian worldview. This is evidenced by the time of lexicographic imaging of key names of these correlative concepts. Initially, student was associated with people, enthusiastic books, then with people who acquired knowledge and life experience in different educational institutions, and, finally, with people who receive this or that specialty. In the name of concept STUDENT there is a certain dynamics: the expansion of semantic field, especially due to units that are hyponyms to the keyword. In all dictionaries of the Russian language, the lexical unit student is indicated as borrowing from European languages. For a long time in the Russian linguistic culture, its nuclear part remains practically unchanged. In the meaning of the word student, only peripheral semes are changed or modified. We can also state the enrichment of the derivational potential of this word. The development of the semantic-derivational possibilities of the names of the considered correlative concepts is related to the peculiarities of a particular language. In English, the word student is characterized by semantic derivation, in Russian by word-formative derivation. | 492 | Introduction. This article reviews the personality of Lermontov and his works by criticism of Russian religious philosophers, especially by V.S. Solovyov. History and criticism of literature have а lot of researches, which analyze works of different writers by literary criticism of philosophers. Most often, they simply state one or another thought of philosophers without any assumption that it can be used as an instrument to analyze a piece of art. Materials and research methods. There is an attempt to use literary criticism of Russian religious philosophers as a methodology within analyzing religious-philosophy subject of the artistic literature, in this case by learning life and art of Lermontov in the article. Results and discussion. There is an analysis of literary-critical and some philosophical works of Solovyov in the article, as well as identification of his approaches to creativity and the fate of Lermontov. Special attention is given to the reception of the poem «Demon» and to the demonic theme in the works of the poet in general, confirms the assumptions about deeply personal attitude of the philosopher to the poet’s fate, and interprets the certain similarity between them. Attention is drawn to Solovyov’s selectivity of Lermontov’s texts, designed not only to understand the work of the poet, but rather to illustrate his ideas, which owned the philosopher at the end of his life. The analysis of numerous texts of Lermontov with angelic and demonic themes, which not perceived by the religious philosopher is given. Conclusion. The use of literary critics of the philosophers as methodology allowed us to conclude that the distortion of Lermontov’s demon theme made by Solovyev was explained by completely opposite historiosophical views, different «conceptions of knowledge»: Lermontov tried to explore the beginning of evil and wrote about the first-born of creation, Demon, “the spirit of knowledge”, turning the poem into the gnosiological poem, while Solovyev tried to understand the ultimate fate of human history and wrote the «Short story about the Antichrist» by formulating his eschatological views. | 493 | Introduction. Text interpretation problem is one of the most topical in up-to-date philology generally and in stylistics of text in particular. In this way the research of readers’ interpretative activity on the basis of experiments is of special interest, because it allows to judge steps of notional text explication in the addressee’s consciousness. The purpose of the article is to identify some patterns that are important for the interpretation activity of the collective addressee (reader) based on the methods of communicative stylistics of the text and its notional explication theory, developed in the context of this trend. Material and methods. Under the methodological base of communicative stylistics of text context and semanticstylistic analysis, a method of associative field of a key word’s modelling and experimental methodology are used in the article. It includes spare associative experiment as well as receptive experiment and modified methods of scaling by Ch. Osgud for detecting power of influence on collective addressee. Results and discussion. The research is done on the basis of experimental data on the reader’s perception of a verse “Light rain is tender, thin and delicate…” by O. E. Mandel’shtam with the use of the semantic explication theory, which is developed in the communicative stylistics of text, that realizes communicative and activity approach to the text. The theory of semantic explication of a text includes its lexical structure research, detecting of text notional paradigms of different types, their correlation, regulative means and structures analysis, textual associative field of a key word analysis versus associative field of this word, which is revealed during a spare associative experiment. Dependence of semantic explication of poetic text on its lexical structure of deductive type and author’s regulative means and structures, atributives as regulative text dominants and contrast as the main regulative method is determined in the article. Connection of interpretative readers activity (informants) with linguistic and extralinguistic aspects of pragmatic text level and its sublevels (figurative, emotional, ideal) is revealed on the basis of experimental methods. Experimental data verified the connection of the pragmatic level of the text with its informative and notional level. The factors that influence the relevant reading activities are identified. These factors are the following: author’s support to standard associations, which are stimulated by a key word, the role of lexical regulation in controlling of cognitive addressee’s of poetic text activity for revealing its deep sense. Conclusion. The introduced approach of researching interpretative readers’ of poetic text activity on the basis of its notional explication showed that the use of experimental methods with informants’ questioning makes it possible to judge about some regularities and steps of text’s and its elements’ influence on forming of common estimation and idea about text content, that readers have: the role of their informational thesaurus, ability to perceive not only deep, but also superficial sense. Dependence of a process of poetic text perception on its peculiarities – common regulative author’s strategy (explicit and implicit) and regulative means and structures and way of regulation – is detected. As a precedent incentive regularly is performed by a creative person, as well as a precedent phenomena are the name of the author, the facts of his biography and, of course, texts, receiving precedential status in the secondary using. The author refers to the experiment, because the network space as a territory for linguistic experiments is used insufficiently actively. The purpose of the experiment is to trace the features of functioning of the Vladimir Vysotsky’s precedent world in modern media sphere through actualization of Vysotsky’s texts in the media community (in particular in the social networks). Pilot experiment held in social network Vkontakte showed that precedent’s world development provides multiplicity dialogical discursive reactions on the precedent texts. The experiment proved that precedent world of Vladimir Vysotsky is a part of the cognitive base of the members of the Harry Potter’s fans community. This fact allows the author to suppose that this precedent world is relevant not only to some highly specialized communities and subcultures in media environment but also in modern Russian media sphere as a whole, and because of the trends in a social network is known outside of the network space, can be developed in other environments, but the general direction of this development is reflected in the social networks as one of the places of existence of social consciousness. | 500 | This paper presents a study of the toponyms of the Crimea as an object of non-material heritage forming the historical and linguistic space of the peninsula, complements the existing information on the classification of toponyms with new data. Modern toponymics is characterized by the intensive growth of those subject areas and research directions that have an interdisciplinary character. Toponymic research integrating linguistics, geography, history, sociology, cartography, etc. should be referred to such interdisciplinary directions of the onymic science. The aim of the research is finding peculiarities of morphological and non-morphological ways of word formation in the toponymy of the Russian Federation on the example of the Republic of Crimea. In this regard, there has been presented a classification of the toponymic lexis according to the structural level allowing for a detailed analysis of the collected toponymic factual material. Derivational analysis of the Crimean toponymic units is performed. Structural types of toponyms are examined, statistic data on the ways of formation and the frequency of use of different word-formation patterns is provided. As illustrative material, the author offers existing geographical names of the Crimea. In the result of the structural analysis the identified toponymic objects of the Crimean region have been systemized according to the specified criteria, monobasic, compound, and complex toponyms being singled out, the quantitative composition of the groups of geographical nominations has been provided, as well as the explanation of the obtained results.
