| 577 | Сareful study of the rich experience of the Russian and Soviet higher schools is required in modern conditions of reforming the Russian educational system. Such a study will allow to take into account the mistakes of the past and to find the roots of modern problems, and also to formulate the most optimal ways of the current modernization. The need to study the dynamics of the development of the Soviet higher school is due to the scientific and historical relevance of the topic. Analysis of statistical data, archival records management showed that the development of higher education in the USSR in the 1970s and 1980s was ambiguous and contradictory. On the one hand, during this period there is an increase in the quantitative indicators of the output of specialists, the number of higher education institutions is increasing and the number of specialties is expanding. On the other hand, the system of higher education was subordinated to the needs and opportunities of the state planned economy. The state purposefully expanded the training of personnel for the extensive development of production. The growth in the number of specialists with higher education was achieved due to an increase in admission to correspondence and evening departments. Decrease in the financing of education by the end of the 1980s. gradually led to the obsolescence of the material and technical base of universities, to a decrease in prestige, both university professors and graduates who did not find a decent job in their specialty. | 585 | The article discusses one of the most urgent applied problems of language teaching: the creation of didactic materials of a new generation based on information and communication technologies (ICT) and the Internet. First of all, we consider the already existing experience in using ICT and the Internet in education in the USA and Western Europe, where the process to introduce digital technologies in education started much earlier than in Russia. The review of experience of introducing this kind of training materials into practice provides grounds for asserting that the use of ICT and Internet technologies in developing teaching materials creates new opportunities and also new (not yet fully studied) difficulties. It is shown that the means of presenting information (and, therefore, its format) impacts the nature of information processing, assimilation and retention: digital texts are much less fully and accurately comprehended by readers than texts in the traditional format (printed on paper). This is due to the psycho-physiological and psychological mechanisms of perception and comprehension of text information given on paper and on the monitor screen. Further, processing a digital text causes the reading activity itself to be transformed. Now the complete set of reading skills, needed for in-depth processing of information, independent text analysis, is not required. Finally, the norms of organization of texts posted on the Web are changing. “Traditional” texts (including classical scientific, literary texts), constructed according to other models, cannot be fully perceived and comprehended from the monitor screen. The above-mentioned difficulties in a number of cases (for example, when teaching extensive and intensive reading) become a serious obstacle to the realization of teaching objectives. Understanding the emerging problems allows us to formulate new methodological challenges a teacher faces when preparing e-learning courses on extensive and intensive reading for foreign students, and also to suggest some practical steps aimed at solving these problems. | 589 | The paper deals with the header structures of political articles, which include euphemisms and are taken from contemporary French newspapers. Considering the tense political situation in the world, euphemistic titles in the articles on political topics become increasingly relevant. They provide a smoothing effect of the emotional impact on the political discourse. Mass media titles and headers serve to partially reveal the text’s information and make a certain impact on the reader. Euphemism is considered as a word used for the sake of decency and discretion, to avoid mentioning unpleasant or shocking reality. As used in the press language, euphemisms render negative referents in terms of information. Their task is to modify the situation through a process of denomination and alleviative processing. Headers of political articles are classified by the type of negative revaluation of referents: understatement, axiological neutralization, improvement. Understatement in the French-language journalism is often implemented through euphemisms formed by meiosis, because they contain inherently weak negative denotation. Axiological neutralization contributes to veiling the true situation. Titles of articles are included in the policy framework shaped euphemistic statements, which make reality less dramatic, and are an essential component of the text itself. They embody a certain judgment about the current political situation. Authors neutralize the negative characteristics contained in the original concept, causing less dramatic reality that promotes the manipulation of mass consciousness. When using the improvement technique, negative formulation gives way to a more positive. Thus, the euphemisms substitute for unwanted words or expressions, which could cause a backlash in a particular situation, for the ones with a neutral connotation. | 593 | Introduction. The article investigates the small prose of the representative of the Russian emigration of the first wave of M. A. Osorgin in the aspect of function and semantics of the second half of the 1920s. Materials and research methods. The material of the study is the stories of M.A. Osorgin of the second half of the 1920s - “Pensnes”, “Mother’s Portrait”, “Father’s Diary”, “Things of Man”. The work uses structural semiotic, functional-typological, hermeneutic approaches to the analysis of literary text. Results and discussion. M. Osorgin possessed a strong mindset, a talent for spatial vision and memory, which led to his passion for collecting and special power over him of the things related to the lost past, with dear people and key events of emigrant existence. A great place in the life of the writer was occupied by collecting books (organization and work to save rare books in the “Bookstore of Writers”, which he gave a lot of effort in 1918-22, the creation of personal libraries, despite the numerous travels and two emigrations); Osorgin’s other affection was the sweetheart’s personal belongings. Conclusion. It is argued that the aesthetic novelty and artistic depth in the non-anthropocentric world of the author is achieved through various options of “translation” of empirical things in their artistic correspondence, which allows us to talk about the philosophy and poetics of things in the writer’s small prose. It is proved that in the stories “Mother’s Portrait”, “Father’s Diary”, “Clock”, “Pince-nez” “belonings of a man” are endowed with a status equal to a person, their existence is ontologized (along with nature, the animal world and the human): objects have a unique character, they live their lives, but they are also an integral part of human destiny, “inhabit” significant spaces of human existence, become the starting point of the plot understanding the fate of a loved one and the life of the author-narrator. Traced the changing semantics of things, which from a sign of a lost homeland and childhood (memory) turns into the occasion to reflect on their own destiny and character (self-knowledge of the author), and also allows you to unravel the mysteries of individual existence and the universal ontological connection of the living and non-living existence (“death” thing after the death of the owner and turning into a thing of the past). | 596 | The article analyses a topological aspectof ambivalent functioning of ame slave mythologeme in journalism and artistic prose of authors pertaining to different generations of the first wave of the Russian emigration (N. Teffi, I. Ehrenburg, G. Adamovich, A. Kuprin, N. Berberova). An ironic modus of ame slave (being a variant of a Western representation of the Other) in the works of émigré writers does not negate semantic significance of a cultural code conceptualizing a problem of a person’s self-identification in the alien cultural space. Those having the mysterious Slavic soul had different attitudes to attempts of external definition of their mentality. There is a wide range of impressions, from a serious and unconditional acceptance as a given fact (demonstrated by I. S. Shmelyov) to an ironic play upon a meaningless cliché of a mass consciousness (N. Lossky, I. Ehrenburg). Teffi devoted almost all of her writings of the émigré period to parody-like incomprehension of the Western world and mentality on behalf of the ame slave. Her story of the same name (L’ame slave, 1927) contains two tales of excessive Russian trust and marvelous capacity for self-deceit. A somewhat more complex embodiment of the mysterious Slavic soul one may find in the works of Aleksandr Kuprin (The Wheel of Time and Jeannette) and Nina Berberova (Roquenval and Astashev in Paris) where the authors use it to explore issues of émigré existence and national identity.
