| 355 | Introduction. Translation being one of the oldest types of activities is getting particular importance in the modern global world. Translators face the need to accelerate the translation speed, since the development of science, industry, trade, and other spheres of modern society depends on the speed and quality of translation of large amounts of information into different languages. It is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure the quality of translation under such conditions. The very concept of translation quality, although it has been the object of research for many years, is still not clearly defined, while there are different approaches to evaluating the quality of translation in general and specifically there is no single concept of the quality of written translations and a single generally accepted classification of translation errors. This means that such evaluations are not unified and their use may be doubtful. Aim and objectives. The aim of the article is to compare the main approaches to translation quality evaluation as well as existing standards, criteria and parameters for translation quality evaluation. Research methods. The research has used general scientific (methods of logic: analysis, synthesis, generalization); specific scientific (linguistic) methods: descriptive, comparative. Results and discussion. Translation theorists offer several approaches to evaluating the translation quality, which can be reduced to two large groups: quantitative and non-quantitative approaches. To regulate the quality of translations, different states have developed their own regulatory documents and standards. These documents differ significantly from each other: some documents contain requirements for the translation performed (European Translation Quality Standard), others list the types of translation and specify their difference from each other (Russian National Standards), others do not contain exact criteria for quality translation, but provide a list of provisions that need to be taken into account before translating, and also describe in detail the structure of the translation project (American Quality Standard). Conclusion. Organizations engaged in translation in practice use a wide range of national and international translation quality standards, quality evaluation scales, as well as modern tools to quantify the translation quality, i.e. special computer programs to evaluate the quality of translations. The criteria to evaluate the quality of such tools are translation errors, the classifications and typologies of which are presented in a huge number. The absence of a single standard of quality and the periodic inventions of new tools for evaluation of the translation quality are caused by the variety of criteria imposed on the quality of different texts (differ both in theme and function or style). Despite the obvious failure to cover the full range of possible criteria for the qualitative translation of the entire variety of texts, a quantitative evaluation of the formal component of the quality of translated texts is being implemented everywhere. | 372 | Introduction. The article offers a selection and classification of modern English language units of terminological character with etymological comments. The aim of the paper is to consider terminologisms or terms with transferred meaning. Terminologism is a language unit with several components which has either direct terminological or professional meaning. This direct meaning becomes the basis for derived, figurative meaning. It is fixed in speech as a result of repeated use. Material and methods. The language material of this article includes 555 terminological units collected from special philological researches and specialized modern dictionaries of English idioms. The analyzed language units are divided into subgroups by source. The most productive areas of terminology are sports, military and maritime fundamentals, gambling. Moreover, there is reference to language units from the hunting area, theatre, arts, and various sciences. Further on, terminologisms are considered from the point of view of transparency, deducibility of their meaning: both direct and figurative. Results and discussion. It is noted that such fixed expressions can be both completely transparent, clear and completely opaque. Transparent terminologisms, as a rule, are understandable due to the inner form (components) and figurative meaning. Transparent terminologisms are known and recognizable because of general cultural background of the addressee as well. Opaque terminologisms are divided into two groups. On the one hand, there are fixed expressions that contain a specific component. This specific component is a term with the meaning unknown to common people. On the other hand, the inner form of the fixed expression is not entirely understandable. Although all the components are clear, the image conveyed by the term is not clear at all. As a result, the figurative meaning of this term is not deducible. The article comments on the meanings of terminologisms which are considered difficult for understanding. Real examples and dictionary definitions of direct and figurative meanings are given. At the end, the results of the study are summarized. Conclusion. Creating the scientific text, the author puts his subjective view, evaluation on the subject of research, also focuses on the reader who will perceive the text, and therefore the position and opinion of the author of the text, agreeing with it or not agreeing, but provoking a reaction and receiving a response to the text. Nowadays it is difficult to overestimate the importance of the English language for the students of nonlinguistic specialties because only if they know English they can communicate with foreign colleagues and share their best practice. The authors stress that it is necessary to use discursive analysis while teaching students of nonlinguistic specialties because it helps to receive the information about nonlinguistic factors. Moreover, teachers have to apply individual and differentiated approach because students of nonlinguistic specialties usually have different level of knowledge. And in this case the entry test can be useful but it is important to remember that entry test is not the best means of estimating students’ English level and it has some deficiencies. At the same time one of the most important thing during working with future translators and teachers of English is home reading which allows to give the information not only about language but also about culture and history. | 399 | The article deals with the questions of typology and analysis of electronic fiction text program algorithms. The author pays special attention to the description of the algorithmic principles of generating poetic texts, based on strophic organization, poetic size, algorithmic syntax, and matrix of phrases. The electronic algorithmic generators and generative poems on their basis are the first types of electronic fiction. The novelty of the research is seen in the attempt to understand the program algorithms to generate a literary text not only as a method of text creation, but also as a substantive artistic expression, where the code is regarded as a meaning that needs no verbal accompaniment. The electronic literary text is a complex polycode art object which unites text, image, sound, graphics and animation elements with sense-making functions in its structure. The research urgency is caused by the complex analytic model for generative fictional texts of different types (algorithmic and code). The article gives an overview of generative poetic texts, represented by the works by M. Benabou, P. Braffort and J. Z. Piwkowski. The author presents the classification of electronic poetic texts, divides them into two types: permutational (using rearrangement of elements for the new text generated poems) and combinatorics (using syntactical templates and matrix of phrases). The combinatorics electronic generative poems have rigid grammar structure that optimizes the parameters of generated poetic texts. All permutational electronic generative poems are very close to the tradition and theoretical issues of QULIPO restrictions in the sphere of language and art. | 400 | Based on the letters and memoirs of N. V. Shelgunov, V. O. Kovalevsky, N. G. Chernyshevsky and modern critical works, the phenomenon of emergence of marriage of convenience in Russia is considered. Untypical family models with a new attitude towards women are being investigated. The gender approach reveals a gradual change in the public consciousness of the role of women in the family and society. The article analyzes historical preconditions for the emergence of such a cultural phenomenon as marriage of convenience. The real implementation of the theory of “reasonable egoism”, proclaimed by N. G. Chernyshevsky in the novel “What Is to Be Done?”, is being studied. On the examples of family life of M. A. Obrucheva – P. I. Bokov, L. P. Mikhaelis – N. V. Shelgunov, S. V. Kovalevskaya – V. O. Kovalevsky and others, the fate of the participants of the love experiment can be traced. In the opinion of N. G. Chernyshevsky and his followers, a woman in marriage should not only obtain equal with a man rights, but also freedom. She can control her feelings. At the same time, men are liberators, by means of marriage helping a woman to avoid domestic despotism or giving an opportunity to get an education. In Russia the model of behavior of a noble man was conditioned by his desire to take responsibility for a woman, deprived of the civil rights by the society. N. G. Chernyshevsky showed what a decent person in Russia should do, without going beyond the framework of “reasonable egoism”. That is, in the conditions of social injustice, a man had to make up and give a woman what she did not receive from the society. The model of the noble altruistic behavior of a man firmly entered the consciousness and was developed by the part of the youth who shared the ideas of radicalism. Keywords: N. G.
